Knee-high boots - what are the rules for work?

Otterbunting · Today 16:39

I'm thinking of investing in my first pair of knee high boots, but am nervous about them being work appropriate!
Are these suitable, e.g. with an almost-knee-length skirt? I imagine I could also wear them with a miniskirt out of work

I think they're fine. I went into the office today in over the knee boots with a dress ending just above my knee. Our office is casual but I've also worn similar to some external meetings.

MellowSubmarine · Today 16:57

They’d be fine where I work.

LivingDeadGirlUK · Today 16:57

I think unless you are in a very formal workplace knee high boots are fine in most circumstances. I wear mine with knee length skirts and dresses.

Nayone · Today 18:04

they're very appropriate for work. very stylish.

StandingStones · Today 18:32

When are knee high boots not appropriate?

Skybluecoat · Today 18:48

I wear boots like that in court regularly so I think it’s very unlikely they would be unsuitable in your workplace.

Unless you need safety footwear?

When are knee high boots not appropriate?

When they go over your knees and you look like you’re auditioning for Pretty Woman.

notacooldad · Today 19:02

Id be too warm in them in my office.
Theres nothing outrageous about yhem. They are just a run of the mill boot.
I like them.

TheChosenTwo · Today 19:04

They are entirely unremarkable and really sensible looking black boots!
I was expecting something outrageously impractical 😂

travailtotravel · Today 19:05

Fine. I wear boots, tights and shirt skirts. Im a flabby 53!

FebruaryUsername · Today 19:10

Depends on your office dress code. Wouldn't be seen as appropriate in my current office, but we have a smart/business attire dress code where women are in heels/smart flats. They would have been fine in a previous office I worked at, where the dress code was smart casual except for client meetings.

Totally fine! I always wore knee high boots with a mini skirt. Not ‘mini’ as in just covering my bum… just above the knee. It was very smart with a wool coat

Minasama · Today 20:29

Knee high boots have been fine in every office I’ve worked in, although I’ve never seen anyone wearing over the knee boots!

irregularegular · Today 20:36

They are the most work appropriate thing I've ever seen.

I thought you were going to show something over the knee.

likelysuspect · Today 20:36

I dont see knee high boots as being casual at all. Unless they're wellies

They're quite formal in my view.

Aluna · Today 20:45

The boots in the OP have massive calves.

BibbityBoppityTwo · Today 20:48

I think it really comes down to the length of the skirt. Just above the knee is fine, but I probably wouldn’t wear anything much shorter with them in the office.

AllFloatOn · Today 21:01

Yes, I think they’re fine!

bababamama · Today 21:04

They are very smart, far more than mine, which are biker style

watchingthishtread · Today 21:14

I prefer them with a skirt/dress that is longer than the top of the boot but they're perfectly fine either way.

EleanorMc67 · Today 21:42

Absolutely. Though like @WildLeader I'm not that keen on those particular styles. The flared heel and squared toe makes them look a bit awkward & slightly dated?

To be as versatile as possible, I would go with a very simple, classic style. If you have calves that are slimmer or more muscly than average, &/or taller or shorter than the norm, Duoboots are a good place to try. I have slim calves & the pair I bought about 15 years ago (in tan, in a similar style to these) are still going strong. Something like this would be my choice, to go with as much as possible while also being comfy to walk in. Lots of other styles though!

Knee-high boots - what are the rules for work?
LiquoriceAllsorts2 · Today 21:44

Completely acceptable for work. I wear them loads.

DoreenCorkhill · Today 21:49

Why would knee high boots be considered inappropriate for work ? Seriously ? I am over 60 professional and have worn full length boots in winter with dresses and skirts my whole career . Beautiful leather Russell & Bromley LK Bennett suede ones come to mind as favourites over the years .
