Thanks for the new thread @IDontHateRainbows

IDontHateRainbows · 25/10/2026 11:30

To start off the new thread, what are everyone's favourite scents as we head into festive season?

I'm loving Jo Malone tangerine and honey
Also have time for kilian midnight espresso
And JM ginger biscuit usually gets some love this time of year

I know xmas is 2 months away but for me its once the clocks have gone back that I start thinking of it as being this time

Otherwise November would be a boring, dismal month!

I'm visiting M and S today, will see if I can find it

Thank you @IDontHateRainbows

I’ve just got out my Armani Si. It’s rose and fruit and amber and vanilla. Super comforting at this time of year. By the time we get to Christmas I’ll be breaking out the Acqua Di Parma Zafferano

MiaN · 25/10/2026 12:53

I like French Defence Mind Games a lot. Unfortunately it reminds me of tesco own brand black cherry candle too much.

I really liked the amber creme as well and tonka tabac

QueefofSheena · 25/10/2026 13:35

Thanks for the new thread @IDontHateRainbows

I haven't got to grips with most of my HFAC but I'm hoping there will be a new Christmas favourite in there. I love Angel's Share for the Christmas period. I'm tempted to spritz it today as its blowing a gale outside and I fancy something rich & boozy

MiaN · 25/10/2026 13:51

Casamorati Lira, Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit, Xerjoff Starlight, Eight and Bob Belvedere, BDK Gris Charnel, Rituals Velvet Aura to name few!

OvaHere · 25/10/2026 13:53

Thanks for the new thread @IDontHateRainbows

I haven't dug out JM Ginger Biscuit yet but I did enjoy it in winter last year.

I'm not very good at wearing season appropriate fragrances. I tend to grab what I fancy. I did say I was going to be more curated this year.

HolidayHattie · 25/10/2026 14:30

I wrote this on the previous thread but as you all seem to have migrated here, hope it's ok to repost, as I'd appreciate anyone else's thoughts on it.

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir for me today, one of the Cult Beauty 5 for £5 samples. I liked it at first but it's turned... fishy? Kind of like smoked mackerel or kippers. Some sort of smoked fish. Ugh! Think I'm going to have to scrub it off.

Anyone else experienced this? I don't know if it's the sample, my skin or what.

(Edited to add paragraphs as the copy & paste wiped them out. )

demantoid · 25/10/2026 15:32

Thank you for the new thread!

My seasonal favourites atm... MH Staccato and Mineir, Ffern Autumn 25, Sana Jardin Tiger By My Side, and Prada Amber (the original version, I'm hoarding).

Fleecy · 25/10/2026 15:35

Favourites for winter here - Angel's Share, Ginger Biscuit, and Commodity Milk.

I'd like to try the JM Vanilla Scotch and Tangerine Honey. I'm wondering if Jarrolds will have them. They have a customer loyalty evening coming up, so I could be tempted.

CorneliaStreet · 25/10/2026 15:53

Winter perfumes for me are By the Fireplace, Vanilla 28, Commodity Milk, Black Opium and Good Girl.

My absolute favourite winter scents are home fragrance rather than perfume though and both candles from St Eval - Bay & Rosemary and then Figgy Pudding for Christmas time.

Fillybuster · 25/10/2026 16:06

Checking in on the new thread, thank you @IDontHateRainbows 🙏

Still enjoying 27 degree sunshine, and not quite ready to think about winter scents. Although we fly home tomorrow, so I imagine I’ll be in the zone sooner than I’d like!

I only brought a few perfumes for this trip, so limited options.

Jo Malone lime, basil, mandarin for breakfast. It’s lovely and fresh, but disappears within an hour, no staying power at all.

Debaser (not in bloom) for a work meeting, carried me through to another meeting over lunch. I really like both versions of this, glad I picked up a travel size of the in bloom to go with my Debaser from the Liberty BAC, although I think I’ll wear them less over autumn and winter.

Looking forward to Zephyrine for our final dinner this evening.

HolidayHattie · 25/10/2026 16:18

My favourite winter scent is Ministry of Oud: Greatest, although I haven't worn it yet; I've only recently got out the autumnal ones. I think it was based on Initio Oud for Greatness so I'm looking forward to comparing them side by side now I have the latter from FACs.

By the Fireplace also gets an honourable mention but again, I'm not quite ready for that yet. Zara Ebony Wood is an autumn favourite; having gone back to it recently, I like it as much as ever and have been wearing it quite a lot.

SavageGarden23 · 25/10/2026 16:32

MM Autumn Vibes, By the fireplace till end of November. Zara red temptation winter or versace crystal noir for evenings. I need to find a christmas day scent though, something boozy. Hopefully killian angel's share fits the bill.

IDontHateRainbows · 25/10/2026 17:26

Jazz club is another winter fave along with by rhe fireplace.

Can't go wrong with a bit of kilian this time of year, they are the masters of boozy scents. I like apple brandy and midnight espresso

Have a lovely evening out Fillybuster. I'm loving Zephirine for the cooler weather here, actually.

Interesting to mention favourite home fragrances. I bought a Next diffuser a couple of years ago - Logfire - that makes me swoon, it's SO wonderful, but it's discontinued and I can never find it on eBay or Vinted. It's like it never existed, except for my bottle!

I've got about 2/5 of the bottle left, and I'm trying to eke it out, so will uncork it in December. I've tried other versions of cedarwood/smoke/logfires etc (Diptyque Feu de bois is lovely), but nothing comes close to this one. I'd wear it as a fragrance, it's just delicious.

My favourite HF is probably Dr Vranjes Rosso Nobile. I love HF as much as perfume tbh.

IDontHateRainbows · 25/10/2026 18:00

Uh oh my buying ban didn't last long. I live near a John Lewis and popped in, the very last advent calendar was on sale so I, erm, bought it. I asked the assistant for samples as they have given those with frag purchases before and the lovely lady came back with a load of samples including a 6ml dab on mini butterfly of La Bomba Intensa which is one I know i like. Win!

Ooh I forgot about By the Fireplace - I love that in winter and it's one of the few full bottles I have.

I haven't tried Apple Brandy yet - I got it for Christmas last year and decided to keep it for this winter. Looking forward to trying it.

demantoid · 25/10/2026 23:23

I really want to try By the Fireplace. I keep seeing people mentioning it, and it sounds like something I'd like.

SOTM was an old favourite: Eau de Charlotte by Annick Goutal. I find this fragrance fascinating - the olfactory notes seem completely at odds with how it actually smells to me. I get a sparkling, effervescent blackcurrant sherbet-y freshness, and very little spicy warmth. I do love AG fragrances, but they've fallen off my radar in recent years.

SOTE is another blast from the past - Midnight Bakula, from the Body Shop. I know the BS have some very popular fragrances, but I haven't really found anything there for me, except this, which was discontinued years ago. Patchouli, rose and tobacco, maybe a bit linear, but still a lovely fragrance.
