I’m hunting knee high brown boots this season and wore fluffy gloves today

chalkyc2 · Yesterday 06:29

I’ve spent the last 2 days endlessly googling Chelsea boot wellies and raincoats! Hunter vs muck boots vs merry people! Which to choose?! Seasalt vs didriksons? I also need a more weatherproof bag - my current summer-autumn suede bag is not going to survive the storms. Oh and what’s the best brolly?

Back to googling!

hicat · Yesterday 06:33

oh dear @ScottishMouse i checked out the dusk jumper online as I’ve been thinking about getting another cashmere/wool one since the flecky heather grey one is consistently wonderful. 2 years and a lot of wear and still looks and feels great. I’ve tried a few Donegal wool only and they’re too thick and stiff to be useful, despite their beauty! (That bright blue one with the white pattern last year was so good). I’m £70 off my wool coat target so maybe that can be my next treat goal!

a word on kindred gift, I ended up emailing CS just to ask if I was maybe out of kindred now but they have asked warehouse to send me the kindred gift so it was a mistake I guess. Weird with so many having issues, I wonder if there’s been a big warehouse change.

hicat · Yesterday 06:35

Oh and I agree about the woollens resales, I think it’s one thing I wouldn’t buy second hand anymore for risk of moths, shrinkage etc.

@ilovepond thanks for another thread 🍁 crikey what a night of autumny weather. Instead of London - @doy I am happy to post a pic of my Notting Hill exchange ticket here, though you probably won’t need it - I am off to Bath to see an old friend. Usually drive but thought I’d get the train which I rarely do. Booked and already last night a tree on the line and train back partly cancelled. Off peak ticket so should still be ok. Still going to attempt- and probably pop into TOAST while I am there.

Has anyone washed Toast velvet things? I have the green jumpsuit from last year (there is now a new brown one which is exactly the same) but it’s dry clean only which is super annoying. Maybe I shouldn’t risk it.

also, small moan, I ordered 5 things recently and they sent it in 3 different packages. i wanted one big package to arrive, not 3! i emailed them to tell them to stop sending them separately but they said they couldn't do anything about it as they were coming from separate warehouses. i hope this isnt going to continue as i order quite a lot and find it a bit embarrassing receiving lots of parcels, not to mention the waste in packaging.

Beekeeper22 · Yesterday 09:39

Thanks for the new thread!

faustina · Yesterday 10:08

Thanks for the new thread @IlovePond - very seasonal!

@Beekeeper22 I have washed Toast cotton velvet and it didn't end well. I can't imagine the silk/viscose version would do any better either

Beekeeper22 · Yesterday 10:26

@faustina ah thanks. I probably shouldn’t then. Will be an expensive cost per wear because I’ll have to wash it each time, unless I wear something underneath

ScallopShellWalk · Yesterday 12:33

Thank you @IlovePond

Thanks for the new thread @IlovePond.

@OftenOrange thanks very much for the photos of the shoes. They are so nice, gosh. I’ve tried on countless ballet flats and have just not managed to find a pair that works, but I’ll have to try these now. @ScottishMouse I also live in trainers and boots, and I sometimes think I need a non-bulky shoe too. I can’t bear to wear uncomfortable shoes, but I’ll give these a go.

I had the same issue, frustratingly CS advised that they would ask if to be sent on, although have just told me no luck as it’s out of stock.

Hi all - I didn’t make the NH Toast Circle today as the storm knocked out my train! Alternative route gave an estimated travel time of nearly two hours each way 🙀

Did anyone here get there?

Did I miss much?

Thanks

Saurus72, I went into Hampstead briefly today and looked at the firework dress in the flesh, although didn’t have time to try it on. The fabric and cut look lovely but yes, it is longer than it appears on screen. I have ordered both this dress and the patch quilted cotton silk skirt in sumac via Harper, the try before you buy option. I am hoping they will arrive tomorrow and will report back on sizing and fit and overall style and quality when they do.

I went in specifically to look at the mohair cotton half sleeve cardigan in red rock. It is absolutely lovely, but those sleeves are definitely half, they only come to just below my elbow so I’m not sure how they would work in the cold of winter. You would definitely need a layering piece underneath and I wasn’t sure how that would work for me. Also, it is very much a brick red, quite muted. Also, it is a very fine knit, but I guess that plays to the cardie being a layering piece.

Countmeout, I sought out the velvet shorts and tried them on for you and for me. Luckily the pair on the shop floor was a 12 as DH was waiting outside with DDog and I told him I would be quick :) When I held them up against me I felt that they would sit on the knew, but once I got them on they were definitely shorter. I don’t think the pleats are an issue: they are quite small and sewn in so they don’t add bulk, but what was odd about them was that the legs were stiff and they jutted out when looking head on. You can tell that in the photos, they look quite wide on. That may well soften with wear but it is the sort of velvet which is stiffer than the velvet they use in some of their dresses which feels much more luxurious with a better depth. I would say they are true to size, the 12 was good for me in a very average sized 12. I haven’t ruled them out and I need to try them on with opaque tights and chunky boots or delicate pumps which is how I would wear them, but I had on jeans with socks and trainers so probably the bare legs and trainers didn’t do them any favours. I managed to go out without my phone, otherwise I would have taken some pictures for you, apologies.

Although in a rush, I loved the look of the mohair round neck sweater which is definitely on my wish list. I have the dark green version from last year and wore it lots. They are a fine knit but I like that as it means they aren’t over hot when worn indoors. I also loved the look of the batik skirt, quite delicate in real life but lovely for it. I need to try that on. I also liked the look of the quilted skirt, it was a very true navy, not so dark it looks black. Again, one to try on.

Saurus and Countmeout, sorry, it won’t let me tag you, telling me you both don’t exist….!

Thank you for the new thread @IlovePond
I'm also loving that mohair round jumper after watching Friday Night fashion. I've not come across that before and liked how honest they were.
I'm currently working out what I can sell to fund the jumper!

ScallopShellWalk · Today 13:05

Today the cord golden amber A-line skirt arrived. I’m going to keep it. It’s a lovely colour and feels very autumnal and wintery. I’m sure I’m going to enjoy this skirt as I can wear it often in my everyday life. It’s comfortable as there is elastic in the waist. It’s quite long on me so cosy for winter. It was a good choice for me.
Also there’s no obvious flaws 🤣 and I don’t want to find any now I want to keep it.

ScottishMouse · Today 13:11

I need sizing help people!
has anyone bought or tried the new (last drop) charcoal alpaca wool wrap cardigan? I originally tried M, but when I went back to buy it they only had L and I thought I liked it better. I can be M or L in Toast knitwear, but I always lean towards buying oversized and maybe this should be neater. The L feels more psychologically comfy as the M is very fitted across my stomach, but the sleeves are a little long and they might look a bit too wide at the top of the arm. Interested in what size anyone else liked in this?

IlovePond · Today 14:52

I’m wearing a jumper I got at a sample sale today. I’m ashamed to say that I had almost forgotten about it.

I really need to focus on the clothes I have and not just ‘save’ them for some unspecified purpose !

OP posts:
ScallopShellWalk · Today 15:13

@IlovePond I agree, wear the lovely clothes.
After receiving the joyful amber cord skirt, I have now almost shamefully ordered the slanted pleat skirt in slate. I realise I love wearing the long skirts. I have a reworn navy one and I have the silk gold organza one from the sale, though I would ruin this if I wore it at home regularly as I have pets that like to use their nails.
I do like the reworn clothes but recently I’ve had less success. Then I think I’d rather have less, pay a bit more and have something full price that I really like. Hence the cord skirt and this slate skirt order. There’s so many lovely things on toast my head spins but these two skirts I have been constantly drawn to and they aren’t the really high prices of the more “special” pieces. I’ve also ordered the charcoal high neck cotton tee, mainly as a layer in winter.

IlovePond · Today 15:28

@ScallopShellWalk - the cord skirt sounds lovely. I had a beautiful green one when I was a student- I have very fond memories of it. I tried the side button one Toast did a couple of years ago, but can’t remember why it didn’t suit at the time.

Next time I am in Toast, I should have a proper look at the skirts.

I realise why I’m struggling to find good well fitting trousers this year, I’ve decided to return the twisted seam cords because they don’t look brilliant on me.
I’m short waisted with long skinny legs and narrow hips , this barrel shape just doesn’t sit right because they collapse and sag on me. I spent the morning trying on every Toast trouser and no luck. Even my favourite Annies are too tight in waist this year.
Uniglo was a dismal failure and now I’m wondering where to look next …..

@ToastCosILoveIt The sumac skirt is really beautiful, love to know your thoughts when it arrives.
