AI images on Vinted - good or bad?

I've noticed that lots of clothes on vinted are being AI generated onto nice looking women in aspirational backgrounds. And occasionally made overtly sexual, which seems to get lots of favourites.

I can't decide if this is bad? I find it much better to see an item being worn so I can see fit and length but since it's not real that could be misleading and unlikely to get a refund on that basis.

As a seller it would make it much easier to get good looking pictures.

I took this screenshot of a cardigan at random and told AI to put it on a woman.

I think it's completely wrong.

Yes it's easier to visualise an item of clothing if it's being worn, but seeing it photoshopped onto a beautiful tall, willowy model gives me no clue how it's going to look on my 59year old, sagging boobs body.

Utterly pointless and misleading because it's not showing the actual item and how it would fit!
I don't think Vinted should allow it, or at least ask people to clearly state if it's a fake photo. But I doubt they'll be able to stop people.
I wouldn't buy from a buyer who I could tell was doing this, but it's not always obvious!

Most of the images I see are women taking a photo of themselves in a mirror in a nice bedroom with the camera covering their face. Their hands are always in exactly the same position!

Use of AI isn't environmentally good, personally I don't buy from listings that have used AI as it's not a real representation of what the clothes look like.

That screams false advertising to me (not actual product; not an accurate representation of fit; etc.); if it were a company I'd expect repercussions, but as it's just on Vinted I don't expect anyone will do anything. Personally, it would put me off buying, assuming I could tell.

Real stores are using AI now too. I assume they're more careful, give the measurements of the item and check that it's an accurate representation.

But then I doubt the cheap ones are too careful.

I hate it. I never buy anything advertised with AI.

Using AI generated images is against Vinted T&Cs. All images must be your own. Is it worth getting banned @BreezyClouds ? If you don't have a photo of the item being worn, no one should if they are selling brand new ones, then no one will care.

AI often alters images without you realising. It’s not a ‘real fit’ on a real person so is misleading. It could cover flaws etc. so I wouldn’t buy from it. It’s also against Vinted’s terms and conditions.

Vinted will delete listings and ban users for repeated AI use. Report them if you see them.

How could I spot this please ?

It's not just vinted. I'm seeing it everywhere.

Bad imo. I won't buy anything where the seller has done this, I don't trust it at all to be anything like what the AI generated images are and it makes me think the seller is an idiot or a chancer. I will also block any seller that has overtly sexualised images.

Side note - I also hate it when people scrunch the waist in on an item laid flat. Why do they do that!

I don't like it and will scroll past any with AI models.

I scroll even faster past these awful AI posters that I am seeing constantly these days.

Some people are making a poster, adding in the AI modelled photos and then adding the info on the bottom.... and it looks like every single AI poster out there.

I know it probably took longer than just taking a photo on the back of the door, but I am looking at the on the floor or on the back of the door photos way more.

So, if you are using these AI posters to sell things, please reconsider. People like me are scrolling past your items because of that.

Images are too perfect, all look similar in a weird way. Once you see it, you'll spit them pretty easily

I use Vinted a lot, and I don't buy anything with an AI image. It doesn't show how it actually looks, and it's also just fucking annoying.

I've noticed Roman and Halara are using AI adverts now (videos on social media). Great for them to save money on hiring actual models, shit for everyone else.

I report goods with AI images and Vinted tend to remove the listings.

I haven’t noticed the images so much but the AI generated posts are dreadful and put me right off buying.

Well, wrt the OP, do you know anyone who'd get their hair and makeup done and go to a four-star hotel (with a creepily empty reception area) to pose wearing a second-hand cardigan?

As @thedevilinablackdress said, you can train your eye pretty quick. Out of focus backgrounds are a massive tell, so are incongruously glam photos. Very few Vinted sellers are 20-year-olds with perfect hair, giant boobs on a size 6 body and a tropical tan! (And if they were, their used size 10 dresses wouldn't look like THAT on them 😂)
