Why do Vinted buyers make offers and then disappear?

What is going on with people on Vinted. I have been selling on there for a few years now and have never had any problem or complaint (over 150 items sold).

Nobody ever seems to buy an item at the price shown any more - you just get endless offers below the asking price. OK, but if I accept them and pack up the item, I never seem to hear back from the prospective buyer. Why do people make an offer which you accept and then never get back to you? It's infuriating.

It is. I have had someone make an offer which I accepted then instead of buying they just made another lower offer. It's ridiculous

Same reason some sellers put up an item for sale, get a buyer and then never send the item despite the automatic negative feedback, I guess... they're twats.

Because they make offers on more than one item and if a different seller accepts their offer first they will buy that item. Accepting someone’s offer does not constitute a sale.

Well you're packing items which you haven't sold which is unwise.

When I'm looking for a particular item I might send offers on a few, but I obviously don't buy them all.

I really don't understand people who get offended by vinted buyers.

They probably got a better price elsewhere but if I accept and offer I never assume I made the sale.

They change their mind. They find the same item cheaper. Loads of reasons. I wouldn’t bother packing anything until I get a confirmed sale.

Vinted works on a haggling system
Price slightly higher than you want
Its perfectly acceptable and considered normal to make offers

Dont pack things up if you get an offer, wait until its sold
Offers are made but not binding
If I see 3 tshirts the same, I might make offers, whoever gets back to me or best offer, I buy

Adjust your expectations

As per PPs, adjust your expectations, offers (from sellers and buyers) are more of a conversation on Vinted, nothing is sold until it is sold!

Would also add that so many sellers are inactive that if you waited for a response you would often miss your next-choice option.

Never pack til the sale confirmed and you have the shipping label. Simples

People change their minds.

Maybe they made the offer and whilst waiting for you to accept it, they saw it cheaper elsewhere.

I don’t make offers. I don’t feel right about bartering with private sellers as if they’re professional dealers. If I think something is a reasonably fair price, I just pay it. If not, I move on - something else always turns up.

Mind you, I ask for garment measurements if they’re not given which, according to a recent thread, makes me a fussy buyer.

It's not an exclusive relationship. I might put an offer on a leg pset with three different sellers and buy the offer that comes in first. Yu can't cancel an offer from the buyers end

I think that sometimes people like to play a little game with making offers: 'let's see, just for the hell of it, whether she'd accept this price". It is annoying but as Pp said it's not sold until it's sold.

Also, in my experience, those people who message asking for measurements, or, on one occasion, exactly what wool my £5 jumper was, never end up buying.

Presumably they don’t buy because the measurements weren’t right for them although I think it’s rude not to let you know.

I ask for measurements if size not given because 12-14 is meaningless.

I always ask for measurements if I haven't bought that brand/style before. 'Medium' means bugger all! It's amazing how many people 'don't own a tape measure' 😆

I always assume they just changed their mind. If they are offering rather than just snapping an item up, it probably means they're not that fussed about it in the first place. Not always, but I know that if I see something and it is just what I'm looking for or I really like it, I won't mess about trying to get a couple of quid off. I'll just buy it.
Recently I uploaded a lovely Finisterre jumper for £44 and had two offers for £40. I accepted one but the buyer did not purchase it within 24hrs, so I accepted the second, and that buyer also ghosted. They might have found it for less or just changed their minds about it.
I'll take it down this weekend and re-list it, because it has been up two weeks and I'm starting to get the cheeky offers that get on my nerves.

I think the weather plays a part! If the sun comes out again, people dig out their summer clothes and forget about jumpers😆 Wait until a cold snap and I'm sure it will sell quickly.

Accepting an offer is not a sale, so don't pack it up until it is sold. I read on here before that people will make multiple offers and buy the best one they can get.

Vinted is a platform that allows offers to be made, so you need to accept that if you want to sell on there.
