Why do Vinted buyers make offers and then disappear?

What is going on with people on Vinted. I have been selling on there for a few years now and have never had any problem or complaint (over 150 items sold).

Nobody ever seems to buy an item at the price shown any more - you just get endless offers below the asking price. OK, but if I accept them and pack up the item, I never seem to hear back from the prospective buyer. Why do people make an offer which you accept and then never get back to you? It's infuriating.

Because they make offers on more than one item and if a different seller accepts their offer first they will buy that item. Accepting someone’s offer does not constitute a sale.

This. I make 3 or so offers and then I go with 1 of them. Eg I only need one pair of kids school shoes I’m not going to buy all 3 items

I mostly list on eBay these days. Vinted is shit as there is no way to turn off the ‘offer’ option. You list something, and then an hour later you’ll be bombarded with 10 ridiculous low ball offers.

Also on ebay, if you accept an offer then payment is made automatically.

Taxicus · 16/09/2026 12:47

Surely you know the answer. An offer is made that you might accept. If you do accept, they might choose to buy or still not buy. Your accepting is not actually selling, it's only an actual sale when both parties agree on an exchange of money and goods. This happens when the buyer hits the purchase button.

There's no agreement until that point.

Like people above say, I'll make offers to everyone selling the item I'm looking for and go with the lowest/ quickest response.

This is good. Anyone who gets personally offended by buyers doing what Vinted encourages them to do should get off Vinted.

Such an interesting insight to Vinted buyers as I pretty much always ignore anyone who makes an offer. I think the only time I responded, they never came back to me 😄.

I've had pretty good experiences on vinted as a buyer and seller. I do get annoyed when I get messages with ridiculously low prices.
I do wonder though about all those clothes listed 2 years ago do people still hold on to them waiting for a sale. I feel like giving up after a few months and taking stuff to the charity shop.

TheOGCCL · 16/09/2026 18:00

I had it a couple of weeks back where someone bought my item and then immediately changed their mind. People are very fickle.

I don't think there's anything wrong with sending offers. I don't know how long it's going to take for the seller to respond. Someone accepted an offer today that I had submitted a week ago. I had already bought the item from a different seller.

I don't think it's on to send cheap offers on already very cheap things or to send multiple offers.

Vinted doesn’t actively ‘encourage’ you to make the lowest offer on everything that the App will allow you to make.

The numpties who do this push prices up for everyone else, as sellers simply hike prices in anticipation of offers. It means that buyers have to play a guessing game of trying to figure out how much the seller actually wants, and sellers get inundated with time wasting offers that they aren’t willing to accept. It’s utterly stupid.

It’s called bartering.
If you just want to sell something for one price put it on eBay.

HollyhocksandPeons · 16/09/2026 23:28

Too much shite - buyers' market.

Pinkissmart · 17/09/2026 00:07

If an item has been up for sale for a long time, I’ll make a slightly reduced offer to check if it is still available.

Inyearentry · 17/09/2026 09:15

I agree it’s annoying. When I first started selling, things just sold for the price set. Now everything is an offer. I prefer it the old way! I have noticed some sellers saying “no offers please”.

And you get endless offers that are wildly low and then when someone offers something reasonable, about 7/10 times they disappear!

I think if things don’t sell within the first day of listing, they tend to drag and that sort of thing happens.

Why would you ignore them instead of just responding to say you’re looking for full price?

There is a jacket I would like on Vinted at the moment priced at £150. I offered £130 on the basis that the new one in the shop is reduced to that at the moment, but I would prefer the colour of the one being sold on Vinted. No response at all from the seller.

The irony is I would buy it at £150 because it’s the colour I like, but don’t feel I can buy from someone who doesn’t respond.

I think people get really confused by the different ways people use Vinted.

I often favourite things that I want to maybe take another look at later, or when I'm comparing items.
If I send an offer I might have bought something else by the time some people get round to accepting or declining offer.

Sometimes if I see that an item has been up a while, but it's fairly priced or good value, I might make an offer of just under what they've asked just to make sure they still are active on the platform and still have it before paying anything.

mondaytosunday · 17/09/2026 10:05

Because they make offers on several then choose or simply change their minds. My DD buys a lot on Vinted and usually if she makes an accepted offer she will buy. But on occasion she has second thoughts or sees something she prefers. It’s just how it is sometimes.

Well there you go, I was coming on here to say I make offers on things and half the time people don't respond to your offer for days, weeks, months, ever. So sometimes I make an offer on something I like but might not be ready to buy - I don't know if the seller is going to get back to me in 5 minutes or 5 months, unfortunately this might mean the quick responders have to wait sometimes. It might be an item you'd love but have no need for and you're just seeing how much someone would sell for, you're shopping around, window shopping, or you have made offers on the same item to several sellers and waiting for the all to respond.

I don't understand why so many sellers get their knickers in a twist over these things on Vinted - understand the business model.

I've bought 2 items on there recently, today is the last day they have to send them, I've had zero communication form either seller. It happens sometimes, it's not something to get so irritated over.
