I have them in navy (an eBay find!), & they're comfy & go with lots.
If the party is a smart/formal one, then they would work well (I hadn't realised at first that the dress is a very dark brown, rather than black). But the OP hasn't said, so boots might be more appropriate. I've been to the Edinburgh Hogmanay street parties, & flat parties where we had to climb onto the roof to see the fireworks - so boots would be an advantage in those situations!
I think those who say that chunky boots would overwhelm the dress are missing the point - the contrast is precisely the look that's aimed for. It started out as a perfect example of the "wrong shoes theory" - long before that term was invented! And has now become fairly mainstream.
