Has anyone found M&S clothing sizing smaller than usual lately?

Visited a really large M&S - the whole range in store and lots of available sizes.
I has always found them to be a generous sizing and have sized down.

I’ve recently lost about a stone, but yet today everything was cut so small. There are some beautiful pieces, silky brown dress and blue mini skirt that are part of their current advertising. But they are cut so slinky, tight waistbands etc
anyone else experienced this?

I’ve been getting their jeans from vinted, the style I like doesn’t come up often but had noticed recently loads of them and brand new!

Yes, it’s been going on for about a year.
I mind what size the label says 10-12-14 whatever, so long as I can check the fit size, and the sizes match up. They don’t in M&S.
If the clothes had just changed a bit I could size up but they seem to have changed dimensions too. I’m long bodied and used to find M&S trousers were perfect for me. Now they seem to be cut for a different shape of woman.
just have an a announcement on your website M&S and make your size charts match your sizes.

100% yes. I bought the exact same carrot jeans in the same size a year apart recently. No weight gain. One fits, one at least a size smaller. They have defo reduced their sizes down.

Apparently it to do with GLp1 and people shrinking.

I’ve gone up from a size 18 in jeans to a size 22. I used to get long as I have a 33 inch inside leg. Had to get regular this time and it’s still a good two inches too
long.

Tried a 10 and a 12 on in the same pair of trousers in my local M&S last week. The 10 was bigger than the 12. There’s no consistency even for the same garments any more!

I've pretty much stopped shopping there. I'm 62 and a size 12-14. I'm anything from a 10 to an 18 there now. The petite used to be too short and now it's way too long. I'm an extra short n 2 sizes up in jeans. But the hips are way too big for my waist fit. Dont get me started on the cheap prices and poor quality of this years autumn range. Just no M&S you've lost your core market. Guess what it's really not the 20 something's ....

Yes! And I’m glad. Their sizing had got wildly out of hand. I am now an 8 rather than apparently a 4 - 6. They really did jump on the vanity sizing trend for a while.
The sudden change is surely because no one knew what size to go for. Also possibly as already posted, to attract the younger people.

Yep, totally. Went in lookng for new jeans after reccomendations on here. I have had theirs before. I am between a size 20 and 22 in most places. Took a 22 into the fitting room, I couldn't even get them to meet around the middle let alone do them up. I left feeling totally shit and ended buying jeans with an elasticated waist online from Yours.

I’m so happy about this thread! Thought it was just me -just bought a jacket which is big (though maybe meant to be baggy). But skirts in my usual size don’t go anywhere near me -was actually really upset … have found them weirdly small

M&S vanity sizing was allowing me a happy state of fat-denial for a long time… Now I’m lucky to squeeze into a 16, 14 is too tight. The waistbands are really snug.

Between that & their brutal fitting rooms (I used to find the bum-angle mirrors handy, but no more! The truth is too harsh…) Jeans comparison to what I have, big difference!

@FancyKitten I'm not sure that's true.
I think M&S have shrunk their waist size to appeal to the younger shoppers. But the vast majority of their main buyers are older ladies with a bigger waist n smaller hips. So the clothes don't fit properly any more .They are currently paying numerous young influencers to wear their clothes. You know they would never normally wear M&S clothes. Plus the quality is shite this autumn. Primark is better quality.

The trouser sizing has really annoyed me - I used to buy their wide leg trousers a lot for work, same size, same length. Bought some earlier this year, had to go up a size in the waist and get the short length. Still fit ok in store, even if my ego took a hit. But then after washing them the leg length has shortened on all the pairs! Washed as normal along with the older smaller size ones. So lesson is now to buy ones that look too long because they shrink in the leg but not the waist!

I got a message from them that I had sent 80% of clothing back this year, yes because you have changed the leg length of jeans and trousers i was a short but now too long , and waist sizes have gone smaller so ordering more sizes to find a fit is what I had to do, I'm afraid I'm not spending so much now in marks after being a loyal customer for a number of years, still love the thermals though, and the cashmere.

Yes, I bought my usual size 12s in trousers recently and had to trade them in for 14s.

If you look at the description you get the measurements.
I am glad their sizing is now accurate.
No point pretending we are smaller than we are.

When the short length is far too long for somebody 5 foot 5 tall but the rise is too short to actually fit on the body comfortably, it's not pretending to be smaller, is it?

i’m heading there today after losing weight with my 14 short jeans now being too big and hoping to get into a 12. I shall report back!

I don't really care what size I put on but am a 14l everywhere else and was in M&S. They have now done something odd to the waist proportions and when I tried the 16s on they were like a tent on my legs but still too tight on the waist. I have an hourglass shape but I think I would need an 18 amd they were just so voluminous everywhere else I didn't even bother trying them on. And don't get me stared on the length of the tops, so short and no allowance for a bust or slightly longer torso. I'm afraid M&S is no longer for me.

Their short trousers are 29 inches, designed for someone of 5ft 3.
Like me, your body length is probably long and your leg length shorter.
If you rule out M&S, which other women’s clothing shops offer 4 leg length?

Yes they have changed their sizing recently now more in line with other brands apparently but if this thread is anything to go by they are losing customers and I’m not sure they’ll be replaced by the younger market they are keen to attract!

the last two pairs of trousers I bought from M&S I had to return as it was not the size as such but the crutch was too short! I felt like I was being cut in two. I also sent a bikini back as the boob triangle but was so small (and I have small tits).

I am just suspicious that they are cutting costs by just shaving off material!

I don’t understand this idea that they are not vanity sizing any more - I’m 10 everywhere else but now I’ve suddenly gone up to 12 at M&S? Also if anything I’ve lost weight.

I'm a 14L and recently bought these in a 12L, I was very surprised as heard the sizes had shrunk, they are lovely and comfortable round the waist, good job they were in store as I would have ordered 14L. Maybe I got an odd mis-sized pair though. I can never get tops from M&S as all too short.

If you take 3 of the same item in the size into the fitting room they'll all fit differently. That's a big problem if you're ordering online.
