Are these funeral boots worth keeping, or do they look dated now?

Having a wardrobe clear out and deciding what to get rid of. I have these boots that I wore for a funeral years ago. Would you keep them or are they very dated ?

A pic would help?

I don't know about 'dated' but if you last wore them for a funeral years ago, that would suggest getting rid?

A heel that high is dated these days. Doesnt look v comfortable either.

Do you have alternative black boots or shoes for a funeral? I find it’s always useful to have a funeral outfit available. If you do have other footwear, then I’d probably chuck boots I hadn’t worn for years.

DahliaSmith · Today 10:45

Are you likely to need a funeral outfit, and if you did, would you wear these boots?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · Today 10:45

If they are comfortable, I’d keep them. They’re just a smart, fairly classic style.

Autumnallaround · Today 10:56

To me they look very dated. Circa 2013.

But styles always come around again.

HughManity · Today 10:58

Keep them. Heels will be back before long.

I've got a pair like that but with half that heel height. They must be 15 years old. I've recently started wearing them again with black wide legged jeans because you can only see the front inch or two when I walk.

Vintageroses · Today 11:00

ok, thanks , so I think I’ll get rid and buy something flat for if there’s a funeral. I don’t wear heels anymore day to day now I think about it.

I thought I was quite minimalist and ruthless , don’t know what’s happened to me but I have a skirt that I wore to get married in 7 years ago. Never worn again but I’ve kept it ! 😂 I’m still finding it hard to toss it on the get rid pile now !

@Vintageroses I bought a dress for my gran's funeral in 2000, sadly had to wear it for my dad's, then my grandad's in 2001 and 2002. I put it steaight in the charity bag after grandad's, the associations were too sad.

Daisywhatsyouranswer · Today 11:06

I’ve never heard of funeral boots or shoes and are bemused you’d keep a pair just for this purpose.

HairyMcCoo · Today 11:07

I live in fairly similar boots all autumn/winter. They probably are a bit dated but I find them quite comfortable and versatile and I like the way they look.

I think if you haven't worn them since that funeral probably just get rid. It is hard, I am a 'what if I need it one day' person but I have ended up with too much stuff and I would rather be ruthless.

Vintageroses · Today 11:20

They aren’t ‘funeral boots’ exactly, @Daisywhatsyouranswer Mumsnet wrote that title. It’s just that I live in trainers , wellies or clogs and a funeral would be the only time they would be of use. That or some other unforeseen event that would require me to scrub up a little ! They don’t suit my lifestyle.

It's a bit of throwback to times where people would have a "funeral suit" or a funeral coat in the wardrobe, probably when clothes were less disposable, and they wouldn't be able to pop to Next to grab something should their Aunty Fanny or the next door neighbour pop her clogs, and a lot more emphasis was placed on looking "proper" at a funeral than it is now.

Vintageroses · Today 11:21

Sorry to hear of your sad times @RosesAndHellebores 😔

I had those exact boots! I used to wear them with opaque tights and above the knee dresses. They went to the shoe bin at the dump many years ago.

Vintageroses · Today 11:23

@DahliaSmith yeah I suppose part of me worries that it would be an expense I could well do without and wish I had kept them. I have very limited space though so I think it’s time they went.
