Are these funeral boots worth keeping, or do they look dated now?

Having a wardrobe clear out and deciding what to get rid of. I have these boots that I wore for a funeral years ago. Would you keep them or are they very dated ?

I can’t see the photo for some reason but if the boots have thin heels they’re not much good for funerals or other events where there is the possibility of soft ground. There’s always one woman wearing thin heels to a funeral who finds out why this is a bad plan as she starts sinking into the ground with every step. Obviously ignore if the heels are thicker.

ok, thanks , so I think I’ll get rid and buy something flat for if there’s a funeral. I don’t wear heels anymore day to day now I think about it.

I would wear those with wide legged trousers to give me some extra height and most of the shoe wouldn’t be visible anyway… But I do wear heels (occasionally).

The last two funerals I went to required a surprising amount of walking, however. Very glad I didn’t wear heels for either of those 😅

edit: I would wear those with wide legged trousers IF I already owned them and found them comfortable.

Ahh bless all these young people that don't have "Funeral outfits"! :)

It's part of getting older I guess...

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 08/09/2026 13:30

I'd keep them if they were my only smarter black shoes. I have some black court shoes for funerals - very old-fashioned, but they do the job.

seahorsessky · 08/09/2026 13:50

Very similar stuff in the shops now, and that style isn't really stand out enough to be dated. Plus things keep coming round.
But if you don't want them, and need the space, sell them.

Aquasoap · 08/09/2026 13:51

What else would you wear to a funeral? If throwing them means you have to buy something else for a funeral, it would make sense to keep them.

mcmuffin22 · 08/09/2026 14:59

Jeez, they are a very normal western style ankle boot with a block heel. I would still wear them now and not give a shit. Also if they are your only pair of smarties shoes/boots and you're not short on space then hold onto them for the next funeral. AI tells me that cowboy core is currently in anyway.

They are about a gazillion times better than the flimsy ballet pumps that are currently knocking about.

TheChosenTwo · 08/09/2026 15:21

I have some similar to that, they come a little higher up my leg and have a similar heel, I get a lot of use out of mine. The heel is not high and because they’re chunky they’re comfortable to wear and walk in. Funnily enough I wore mine to a funeral recently.

Maisymouse2 · 08/09/2026 15:37

Wear are they comfortable or match something else..if not get rid of them.

Dated or not to my taste yes.

AppropriateAdult · 08/09/2026 15:41

I like that style of boot with a short dress and black tights in winter - comfy but still dressy enough for an evening out.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 08/09/2026 16:08

To be honest - they are dated. Modern western style boot is lower with a chisel toe. They look like they go with a short skater dress - so I’d update personally.

OneNewEagle · 08/09/2026 16:13

Are you clearing out everything? I did the majority of my wardrobe last year. Getting rid of more each season. If you can afford a flat pair of shoes instead of these for a funeral emergency then buy them now and get rid of these. If not keep them for now.

OneNewEagle · 08/09/2026 16:14

Btw there’s nothing wrong with them and I’d wear them if I could wear heels. So if they were in my clear out I would keep them to wear with thick tights and a dress.

TheDenimPoet · 08/09/2026 16:58

I have some exactly like that, for exactly the same purpose - funeral shoes! I need plain black shoes for funerals, and nobody actually cares if they're in fashion or not, so I keep them for that purpose, as nothing else I own would really be suitable.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 08/09/2026 17:12

Would you wear western boots to a July funeral though? I would never do that. Also there’s no need for head to toe black.

It's lifestyle, not age. From about 22 onwards I have always had clothes suitable for a funeral. They're not funeral clothes or funeral shoes-they're just black. Decades later the young women in my office will be the same.

HughManity · 08/09/2026 18:16

I have a funeral outfit but it's just black separates that go well together. The shoes are black high-heeled court shoes. Dark overcoat.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 08/09/2026 22:56

Mant funerals request no black now. I wore yellow to a friend’s funeral. That’s what they wanted. I have loads of black but I tend to prefer navy. I’ve been to few funerals where black is worn by everyone. I certainly don’t have funeral clothes.

I don't think I've been to any funerals that requested no black.

Some have requested bright clothes but that is usually a bright scarf/ or bright dress with black tights and black shoes rather than a whole rainbow outfit where I am.

AnnesPuffedSleeves · 08/09/2026 23:23

I have no fashion sense. Are any heels in these days? Block heels? I really only wear flats but wonder what I’d wear if I needed to be smart.

momager22 · 09/09/2026 08:01

I personally dont think they’re either on trend or a classic style or even smart enough for a funeral tbh so I’d bin them.
I have a classic black leather court shoe that I keep for funerals but would never usually wear.

HughManity · 09/09/2026 11:09

I notice everyone's shoes but not at funerals unless the shoes are completely unsuitable. Same with clothes. The boots would be unremarkable.
Maybe OP doesn't have the pair of classic black leather court shoes.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 09/09/2026 11:14

@LittleGreenShoots I have only been to a few No Black ones and my friend requested bright colours. Most people did and it looked like a celebration as opposed to a funeral - but she wanted that. It surely doesn’t matter but a coloured scarf wasn’t the request!

Floisme · 09/09/2026 11:58

I don't have a 'funeral outfit' but, unless there's a request to do otherwise, I just wear separates that are in a sober colour (not black) smart and unobtrusive. I wouldn't wear those boots but the only reason is that I've not worn heels for about 50 years. As far as I'm concerned, whether or not they're dated would be completely beside the point for a funeral. If, as you say, your only current alternatives are trainers, clogs and wellies, then I'd keep them for now.
