My DD has asked for a choker necklace like this pic. I've found a couple of very cheap ones but does anyone know where I can get one that's made of proper gold?

This is a bit different to your inspiration pic, but lovely:

Have stuff from Monica Vinader and Astley Clarke and the quality of the latter is much higher. Customer service is also excellent.

That's lovely IMO.

Have a look at Konplott. I love Couer de Lion as well and have a lot of their necklaces - but I like they are stainless steel as I don’t normally wear gold.

OP asked for one that's "Made of proper gold". Gold vermeil is another term for silver that's been gold plated. It is better quality that most gold-plated jewellery, but not made 'of' gold, and the plating will wear off quicker on a beaded item because of the friction.
I bought a relative a monica vinader vermeil necklace a while ago and it was looking less-than-sharp before she'd had it 2 years, and it wasn't like she was wearing it daily.

The problem with a solid gold piece is that OP's £200 budget would barely cover the wholesale cost of the gold at the moment, let alone the cost of the stones and retail mark-up, even second-hand.

Agreed, it was just a heads up to manage expectations wrt wear.
Gold is crazy expensive at the moment!

This is the nicest, and the closest to the delicacy of the OP’s pic.

It is mad. More expensive gram-for-gram than platinum in some cases!! 🤯

I'm assuming you don't mean quite as good quality as this one though...
Multi Gemstone and 18ct yellow gold necklace - Connard & Son Ltd.

Now you're talking. That is BEAUTIFUL.

Gold filled gets a bad rap on here for some reason. It's more durable than gold plated.

The gold's thicker than plating - it must be at least 5% of the metal in the UK. It's a layer of sheet gold, physically bonded to the base metal by heat & pressure. The base is usually brass. Gold filled metal's usually produced in the USA.

Plating's done by passing an electric current through a gold solution, depositing a thin layer of gold molecules over the base. It is rarely as much as 1% of the total.

Don't buy 'gold filled' on Etsy unless you know the seller is a genuine UK or US supplier, as it's often just plated.

More durable yes but ultimately it will also wear off leaving you with a very expensive piece of brass jewellery which looks dreadful as the brass core will tarnish and polishing will speed up the delamination of the metals.

At least with vermeil you do have some left over intrinsic value in the silver base.

I use only sterling silver and solid gold in my own work.

Thanks to everyone for their help. In the end I decided to get this one as it was so pretty. I hope DD will like it as much as I do!

It's been quite a while since I've bought more than earrings and I wasn't aware just how expensive gold had got.
