Help styling a Reiss dress for a late September wedding (please!)

After my thread looking for inspiration for a family wedding and a fruitless day shopping yesterday, I've bought this dress, which I've had my eye on for a while (and blown my budget).
Can I have some help styling it? I'm 5'3", size 16 (have bought in petite), not a fan of heels, but could manage a small one. Wedding is late September, so weather is anyone's guess.
Hoping to compensate for blowing my budget by buying cheaper bits to go with, or hunting on Vinted.
Thanks in advance for any help!

That’s a beautiful dress and I think it stands on it’s own without too much accessorising.

I might be tempted to add a bright red - shoes or bag, but possibly not both and keep the other navy. Then a statement red bracelet, red lipstick.

I think you could also consider cerise or emerald green but I’m aware I’m referring to the colours that suit me because, oh, I love this dress

paomara · 29/08/2026 12:49

Yes, I like it also. It is a statement on its own, so needs little enhancement IMV. I'd stick with navy shoes, with maybe a splash of cerise somewhere, headband, bag, bangle?

Great dress Op, good choice.
I mean it’s a wedding so the usual kitten heel shoe or chunky heeled sandal will look great. Let the patten do the talking and stick to the dress colours.
I think you will need to find a smart jacket though as that’s got short sleeves and yes weather could be anything. I’ve just seen a fab navy one in my local charity shop - Joe Browns. But if you wanted to do colour a plain jewel colour would work well.

moogdroog · 29/08/2026 12:55

Oh, I'm so glad you all like it! Some great suggestions here - thanks all.
I do think a jacket would be wise - wedding is midday through to midnight, so likely to get chilly at some point.

That is a beautiful jacket! I'll find something teal in the house and try it next to it. Would be great to find a jacket that I'd wear again (and would absolutely wear this one). Thank you!

@moogdroog yes I think you'd get a lot of use out of that jacket as would I if I could possibly justify purchasing it, which I really really really can't. 😂

7238SM · 29/08/2026 13:42

At first I thought it was black, not navy, so I'd definitely add some colour. Red shoes and chunky bracelet? Depending on your colouring, gold or yellow could work too.

That is a lovely dress. Be careful about navy jackets, if the shades don't match, they really don't look good. The JB burnt orange on is nice nut I might prefer something more structured with that dress. I think I would stick to navy shoes and maybe match the bag to the jacket that you choose. Jewellery should be understated so as to not distract from the dress.

GoldTie · 29/08/2026 16:49

Lovely dress. I think I’d go for silver sandals and silver bag, to save trying to match up to the navy. Jackets a bit trickier.

Crwysmam · 29/08/2026 17:06

Love the dress but the belt looks a bit of a random add on. I would try and find a smarter belt ( not white) and match to shoes. Suede slides my backs with a block heal, so you don’t sink into soft ground. I picked up a pair of Russell and Bromley suede sling backs last year for a wedding for £20. They had been worn once.
The style of dress does lend itself to a large brimmed hat. The size of the skirt would be balance out by a big hat. Again probably lots on Vinted being sold off.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 29/08/2026 17:32

Id go with green or pink shoes/bag rather than red.

I like the Joe Brown jacket but it does not go with that dress at all. Id go with a Hobbs eliza jacket or Seasalt vanessa cardigan (try ebay or vinted).

HollyhockDays · 29/08/2026 18:18

Gorgeous dress! I’d keep everything simple with such a bold pattern. Maybe silver?

Indespair40 · 29/08/2026 19:36

Yes nice dress error it simple

I’ve just bought this to wear to my Son’s wedding. I’ve got a navy fascinator, wide navy belt to cinch the waist a bit more (belt that comes with it is so slippy I know I’d be fiddling with it all day), cerise shoes and clutch. I love it! It’s so comfy, but still looks elegant. I hope you have a lovely day OP.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 29/08/2026 21:10

I would add bright orange or bright pink shoes and bag

moogdroog · 29/08/2026 21:26

That sounds perfect @FelicityPasta. It feels wonderful on doesn't it? The fabric has a perfect weight and drape. And pockets!
You're going to be a very chic MoG. When's the wedding?

I would add bright orange or bright pink shoes and bag

Interestingly, the only clutch I own is orange... wonder if it might work.

Wow, what a great dress. Well done OP

Greenwriter76 · Yesterday 18:10

Like all the suggestions of red / cerise. I also think accessories and shoes in either gold, silver or something on the tan / nude spectrum could work

Middleagedspreadisreal · Yesterday 18:23

I'd go for hot pink bag and shoes

Flossy1985 · Yesterday 19:10

Love the dress OP! I personally would team with burnt orange shoes and bag navy jacket. Orange warms the blue perfect for autumn!! 🧡💙

I have never seen so many links in one post. Is this a new marketing/advertising tactic?

How about a Vinted jacket?

purple Hobbs

red LK Bennett - actually a suit

burgundy Jaeger bargain would go with navy

pink Jaeger

red Coast

none of the above are mine - I just like looking for clothes for people - especially when there is a clear list of requirements!
@SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess - are you for real? This is the style & beauty board - the entire thing is a hub for sharing links ideas and opinions
