Sunglasses that fit over prescription glasses

monkeycat · 05/08/2026 09:24

Has anyone bought sunglasses that fit over your normal prescription glasses and are you happy with them?

I keep having adverts for them pop up on Instagram and Facebook and I would like some but don't know which companies are ok. The 2 main ones that I see are Bloombelle and Saint Eyewear.

Any experience or recommendations?
Thanks!

Yes. After years of prescription sunglasses and sun reactive lenses I have decided they’re by far the best option.

Ive bought cheap ones from
aliexpress and amazon which work fine but some are quite flimsy. I am waiting for a delivery from sunfit so I’ll let you know what I think of those.

monkeycat · 05/08/2026 09:35

Thankyou!

Might give some cheap ones a try in the first instance then.

I do get migraines that are triggered by bright light so im feeling a bit torn about getting decent quality ones, but I know there's no guarantee how I'll get on with them.

Do you use them for driving at all?

In Italy I saw some fantastic looking prescription glasses in lots of different shapes and styles. They all had matching tinted lens that fitted on the frames by tiny magnets rather than clip onto the prescription frame on the bridge. Is that what you mean? Otherwise the other ones that I’ve seen here are the goggles that go over the whole glasses. These ones are not particularly comfortable and are very clunky but do the job.

7238SM · 05/08/2026 09:56

My mum used to wear a giant mens pair over glasses and she honestly looked like a fly!

Asda do 2 for 1 on glasses and that includes prescription sun glasses. I'll be trying these next time. I 'think' you can also buy clip on lenses for some glasses but not sure how good they are.

travailtotravel · 05/08/2026 09:57

Yes I got some for the car so I don't have to do the whole taking glasses off swapping for sunnies thing. A revelation. They look great too no 'show through' of you get good dark lenses.

I got some of these when I last changed my glasses, they're brilliant!

I need glasses for long-sightedness, so before I got these magnetic things, I bought a pair of cheap sunglasses readers, which were also brilliant (but not quite as nice as my own prescription with the varifocals 😂)

Can remember what brand they are or where you got them?

I think I'll mainly use them for driving.

Yes I have several pairs bought from Temu

susiedaisy1912 · 05/08/2026 10:06

Yes I use them for driving and in the garden they are great. Cost a few pounds compared to prescription ones.

Polarised Fit Over Glasses Sunglasses for Women UV Protection, Trendy Oversized Square Wrap Around Shades for Driving

I bought these from Amazon for £10 - perfect for driving!

HermioneWeasley · 05/08/2026 10:15

Yes - it’s driving where they’re best as you ca just flip them on and off whereas before I’d be trying to juggle changing the glasses over

HollywoodTease · 05/08/2026 10:22

Yes, I bought the Bloombelle ones 2-4-1 from a FB ad and was disappointed in the quality. They fit well and do the job but are cheap & flimsy plastic and the lenses on one pair scratched very quickly. I loved the concept but wouldn't buy from them again.

I've since bought some better ones off Amazon for slightly less and wear them all the time.

Randomchat · 05/08/2026 10:26

Are they really bulky behind your ears? I can't imagine wearing 2 pairs of glasses. I would quite like to try them

fridgegrazer · 05/08/2026 10:31

I have Amazon ones and they seem fine. I don't use them for driving because I have reactive lenses in my ordinary glasses so I think they would be a bit too dark. I didn't find the ordinary glasses quite enough to be proper sunglasses - not quite big enough or dark enough. I did try some prescription sunglasses once but I always made the mistake of forgetting they were sunglasses and going into work with them on, leaving my ordinary ones in the car - but that's probably just me being a featherhead.

These are the ones I bought first of all - which are fine!

I bought some. They are not stylish. My teenagers laughed at me (even more than normal) and they reminded me of my grandma who bought some yellow wrap around welding glasses (or something) from a charity shop and thought they looked great until my mum hid them.

Sorry, I was hoping they'd be great too.

Cyclistmumgrandma · 05/08/2026 10:45

Yes, I have several pairs and wear them often.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 05/08/2026 10:49

My glasses are Eco magnetics, they come with magnetic sunglasses.

Dahliasrule · 05/08/2026 10:51

I always used to use them until I got light reactive lenses a couple of weeks ago. I used to just get them from Amazon for about £25 each.

Asda are great! Got two pairs last month, one were prescription sunglasses that worked out at £40 ( as they are half price) and I love them!

I got these recently too. Much prefer glasses with clips that are designed specifically for them than any of the other options.

Blueuggboots · 05/08/2026 11:20

Yes. I got some from Amazon. Very happy with them.
do bear in mind that if you have large frames on your normal glasses, they may not fit.

Blocksfruity · 05/08/2026 11:45

LVIOE brand on Amazon are very comfortable and don't look too big and chunky like most. I'm always worried they don't actually have the UV protection they claim but they come with the relevant CE mark and a little card to test the polarisation. I've been very happy with mine, my glasses are larger but these still fit fine.

Hoppinggreen · 05/08/2026 11:48

I thought these were stupid until I thought i would give them a go after seeing them on FB
I bought a1 pair and got 1 free and they are great, took them on holiday and could go from outside into a shop etc without changing glasses
Got them from a company called Saint

monkeycat · 05/08/2026 13:48

Thanks everyone for your input.

Think I'll bite the bullet and order some.
My frames aren't all that big so the fit should be ok and I don't mind too much what they look like, as long as they do the job. 😊
