Is anyone buying more clothes in person rather than online?

I bought 3 dresses this year.

2 in store that caught my eye and i now love - from m&s and a department store. Both under £50.

I tried on many others that didnt work.

1 from online - almost £300 and it is just ok.

I have gradually cut down and down on online shopping because so much just disappoints on quality or simply doesnt suit me.

Anyone else upping their in person pu4chases?

I went into a store and it was so nice being able to meander around and put together an outfit and discard things which didn’t suit or fit. I agree with you, OP. A much easier and pleasant experience, I enjoyed it

And I do think I might try to buy more in store than on line, going forward. I used to enjoy it but got lazy

No. My only local shops are TK Maxx, Whistles and charity shops. Whistles doesn’t fit and TK is polyester misery.

Online it continues.

I'm old (62) so I buy all my clothes in person

I am trying as am an awkward size. Could you pl post the M and S dress? I have some vouchers I want to use.

I mainly buy online from places where I know the quality and my size.

Id much prefer to go and buy clothes in person instead of all the disapointments that arrive in the post, and postage and returns are expensive, but I live more than 50 miles away from any decent shopping centres. I sometimes go shopping when I visit my mum in Sussex but thats a 4 hour drive from where I live.

Yes, me! I buy almost no clothes online anymore because so often things may not be quite right and I can't be bothered with returns.

I have been trying to buy fewer items of clothing and only items that I try on and immediately think "yes!" I just find in person shopping a better experience when you can feel the fabric and how clothing looks in person.

As an example, I bought a top today in the FatFace sale. I ended up trying it on in a couple of colours and a couple of different sizes to make sure the fit was right. That would have been a massive hassle to order four different versions of the same top and would seem a huge waste of packaging/plastic waste with being sold to me, returned and sold again to someone else etc.

The only items that I can remember buying online this year are from Vinted, which also can be hit and miss but are at least cheaper.

I appreciate though, that I'm lucky to live within 30 minutes of a major city with a range of shops.

I don’t think I’ve bought any clothes online since Covid. I do miss Debenhams though. There isn’t much choice of mid-range brands near me so I keep track of what I need and often buy when on holiday or day trips.

It has helped me not to over-buy, I’ve never seen shopping as a leisure activity.

Fair dues to anyone who can buy online now, a medium in one top or a large in another, dresses that billow weirdly at the end- in shop shopping has got to be the way forward (again😉)

Same here. Also online refunds are not reliable - looking at you, Jigsaw.

Sadly not. I live in rural scotland and there’s nowhere to buy clothes. There’s a primark and a tiny M&S about 2 hours away if I were to get that desperate.

I’m 55 and used to love a trawl round town when I lived in one but now I don’t miss it and like the selection I have with online shopping.

I’ve found a lot of places online have quite detailed size guides and often accompanied by a scale of whether people who have already bought it thought it was true to size, smaller or bigger. I find it easier than a few years ago for sure and I haven’t returned anything for not fitting in ages. I’ve found the brands I prefer to shop from and am pretty confident in choosing the right size.

I do mostly shop online, the shops near me are often lacking in stock in my size. I went to Uniqlo recently and wanted to try on their trousers in the longer lengths they sell only of course they don’t actually carry the longer length stock so it was still going to be a case of ordering several sizes and returning things. I just didn’t bother in the end.

I would be happy to, but I live in a small rural town and while we do have clothes shops they don't sell the clothing I like, so online it is.

Maybe it's because I'm an old gimmer in my mid-late 50s, but I never buy clothes online. Never have.

I nearly always shop for clothes in real shops. I like to see and feel the clothes and try them on.

I always buy footwear in shops.

I’m your age and I don’t feel at all old. I loved in person shopping but embraced online shopping in about 2003 and have never looked back.

I am a 12. The shops never have stock.

Yes! I’m buying less than I ever have, but what I do buy, I buy in store now.
I don’t want to lose the high street and/or independent shops

95% of my purchases are in person - charity shops and tkmaxx with occasional outlet or high st eg Next or M n S
The only time I buy online is if I see something in person and it’s not available in colour or size I want, so check online
Same applies to vinted and eBay frequently for things I already own but want in a different colour or size due to dieting

Yes I would like to. My closest high street has an ok range but I don’t have much time for meandering. It’s more convenient for me to shop online but it can be hit or miss. I realised a lot of clothes and shoes in my wardrobe that I’m not sure of were bought online. So really I should cut down. But when I need something specific online is the way to go. Also shoes are near impossible for me now with me needing wide and a half size!
I do think it’s a shame so many stores have closed down over the years.

I'm late 50s and don't consider myself to be old yet but I have always stuck to mostly in person shopping because I enjoy it and am fortunate enough to live 30 mins drive away from 3 big towns/cities with good shops galore, easy parking etc. I do some shopping online but mainly it's for repeats of things I've had before. Although I have had some nice dresses from Tu online this summer.

I exclusively buy clothes on vinted. Charity shops are now getting expensive and have a weird and difficult selection of clothing.

I almost never buy clothes online, it is joyless and frustrating. Plus hate deliveries. Plus hate postal returns.

Shopping in shops is more fun and less admin.
