My first Gay wedding invitation.what on earth do i wear?!

its my nieces big day,she has no interest in clothes or fashion so i dont want to go overdressed! but then i havent met any of her friends who could be quite quirky and OTT!!

Just wear what you would wear to any wedding! Does it really make a difference that it is a gay wedding?

I would have thought whatever you'd wear to any other wedding. Enjoy the day!

Just wear what you want - just as you would to a straight friend's wedding!! Not sure why the fact that they are gay should make a difference really..

It's a good chance to wear what you love but never thought you'd have the nerve. Here's an event which is outside oldy world convention and therefore you can enjoy camping it up a bit and be more daring than usual.

I went to a gay wedding last year although it was two men. They had specified hats for the ladies. Not everybody wore one but in most cases, those that did, went for it bigtime! Mine was so large it created an exclusion zone around me! It was the type of hat which I would never have worn to a male/female wedding for fear of upstaging the bride but in this case we were only competing with two men in suits! I think you will find anything goes so wear something that you feel glamourous and happy in!

Why don't you ask your niece what she thinks?

What does it say on the invite regarding dress code? If there is no information, either ring your niece or her mum and ask (if ringing niece's mum, ask her what she is going to wear).

And, woodenchair, I have been to heterosexual weddings where glitter wigs, fairy wings and black leather were worn.

I'd say wear something fabulous dahling! Making some heavy assumptions, there will probably be gay men at this wedding too and they will love your fabulous outfit and compliment you all day!

that was my point really madamez, it seemed that the assumption was made that because they were gay that would the glitter etc would be there. When it had already been said already she had no interest in clothes or fashion. Just seem a bit stereotyped.

Well I thought perhaps the OP knew that, while her niece is not a glitter type, some of the other guests might be.
IN general, people should wear what they feel comfy with, to a wedding - and if in doubt, a good suit will never offend.

wow, that's an interesting position to be in... is she your sister or SIL? Do you talk?
Perhaps you should just ask your niece what most of her guests are likely to be wearing and go with the flow

She is my sister-we get on very well.
However this whole thing will be ruined if she turns up!
I know what my niece will say-where what ever you want,everyone else is

there you go then - wear whatever YOU will feel comfortable in because it won't be wrong. I think you are likely to find a wider range of dress at this wedding than at a conventional one, even if I am being stereotypical and generalising.

Well, wear whatever you want. Your niece invited you, not some bizarrely-dressed clone of you; she has no interest in fashion herself; just go as a (reasonably smart) version of yourself.
