I make Voxy running shorts my summer casual "uniform"?

Pretty much all summer I am either running, on my way to a run, have just run or will be running later, or some other form of exercise.

I was thinking of treating myself to some of these https://voxyofficial.com/collections/running-shorts?srsltid=AfmBOopnTYzPeHjC428zyj0MRttI6LQ-BYYkvSPXUXsGW8GbyQa8M8bX 2 in 1 running shorts and pretty much living in them for the summer and on holiday.

I'd have some bright running vests to go with them - not the bra tops on the site.

I'm tall, slim and athletic, but not tanned (like the models) and there's no denying my skin tone on my legs isn't what it was.

I've never been stylish or fashionable, but I had my colours done years ago and avoid black, which makes running kit tricky, plus I like these!

So, 1. Can I wear running kit all day? 2. Will I look ridiculous in this kit?

I know, wear what you like, but we all like to think we look OK?

Girl, you are 56 years old and you are a kick-ass runner who is looking after her body. You wear what you like.
if you want to wear running shorts all day in this heat, you do it

HeidiLite · 03/08/2026 14:33

things we should stop wearing in middle age - weight of other people's opinions and judgement😁

I am no spring chicken but often walk around in my gym kit (sometimes also just sports bra or crop top) if I also plan to do exercise later. Go for it.

Poppystone · 03/08/2026 15:03

Oh I know, and I generally do walk around in very little, I'd just like to discuss these shorts 🤣

Yes, you can wear it all day
no, you will not look ridiculous

AnotherExpatKiwi · 03/08/2026 15:17

I’m 60, run and cycle. Slim with good legs. I’d wear those. They’re fun!

owlpassport · 03/08/2026 15:18

I think wearing running kit all day is a bit performative to be honest, but there's nothing particularly unusual or outrageous about those shorts. I might get a pair. I can't see why you think you'd look ridiculous.

WildLeader · 03/08/2026 15:37

I love some of the sisterhood messages on here! Go girls!

@Poppystone those ar great shorts! I have some Flyte 2-in-1 shorts and wear them to boxing training and strength classes in the morning, sometimes I take a while to change, esp if a callisthenics session or something non sweaty.

im 58 and according to my adult kids - “hench” 😂

wear whatever you want, if you look good in it, rock it!

fwiw, im fairly white of leg too, but use fake tan in the summer if I’ve not been away on holiday. Fake tan/spray tan makes our bodies look AMAZING, and makes us feel so much better about ourselves

so if you’re lacking a tan, buy one in a can 😂

SpiralSister · 03/08/2026 16:28

Lovely. Wear them!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 03/08/2026 16:31

I'm 66. I run in tight shorts and frequently only a bra top too, although I usually have a running-back vest over the top. I wear leggings in deep winter but switch back into shorts around February, which means my legs are brown by the time summer starts.

If anyone wants to take issue with this, it's their problem not mine. I also tend to stay in my running kit all day, so I'm often out walking the dog or doing the garden in it too.

SpidersAreShitheads · 03/08/2026 16:34

Honestly I wouldn't want to be sitting around wearing exercise gear all day - I prefer to change when I'm about to exercise, and certainly change again when I'm back. Just to check my understanding of your post - you wouldn't change your shorts after you've been for a (presumably very sweaty in this heat) run?

But that aside, absolutely wear the shorts! They're a lovely design and it doesn't matter whether your legs are pale, blue, or green! If you like them and they feel comfy, get them. I plan on continuing to wear clothes that I like for as long as I inhabit this planet. Bollocks to age! I'm sure you will look absolutely fab.

NotMyRealAccount · 03/08/2026 16:35

These look great, and very comfortable. I'd happily wear them all summer.

No, I change after a workout, but today for example.

I walked to the swimming pool (in running kit), swam for an hour (in swimming costume!) changed back into the run kit to do yoga, walked back, popped to the supermarket on the way, pottered about a bit in the garden and did some housework, read for a while, now I'll have a bit of dinner, do some core work and weights then go running this evening.

If I don't stay in run/gym kit, I'm changing my clothes all day. If I'd worn "real" clothes to go shopping, I'd have had to carry them with me to swim/yoga and I'd have changed into gardening clothes this afternoon etc.

I.e. I change after s run, not necessarily after yoga, if I'll be gardening/running afterwards.

Love these ones!!!

Go for it

Typtoe · 03/08/2026 16:54

Love these shorts! Absolutely nothing wrong with wearing them throughout the day. If I'm doing a workout later and have no reason to need to be in any other clothes during the day, I would wear my workout clothes all day. One less barrier to me doing the workout and sometimes having to get changed is a big enough barrier!

NewGoldFox · 03/08/2026 16:56

They’re cut quite high, I would only look twice if you had cheek hanging out, but I notice that on people of all ages.
Wear what you like though, I think sports and leisure wear is acceptable in most places now.

SirChenjins · 03/08/2026 16:57

I can't imagine anyone would even bat an eyelid.

Sparrowsandbudgies · 03/08/2026 16:58

Honestly the amount of different kinds of things I see people wearing nowadays I don’t think anyone would give you a second glance (in a bad way). I think most people will just assume you’re on a run / come back from the gym. Go for it.

VoteForCountBinface · 03/08/2026 17:00

Wear what you like. I'm in a pair of Ronhills.

Yes, so in your scenario today, I would:

Worn your running clothes to the gym
Had your swim and then done yoga in the running clothes
If I wasn't having a shower after yoga then walk back/pop into supermarket wearing aforementioned running clothes - no need to take extra clothes just to walk home if you're not showering
Once home, I'd probably shower then change into non-running clothes to potter in the garden, do housework, reading, cooking
Change into running clothes to exercise in the evening

So not really changing clothes all day? Just once after exercise in the morning and then again before exercise in the evening?

I wouldn't want to wear the same exercise clothes all day because it feels icky to me. I also wouldn't want to go out to do some weights/for a run in the evening wearing the same clothes I'd been gardening in.

But really, you don't need to worry about what other people do/don't do. You don't need to justify why you want to keep your exercise clothes on. If you're happy with your habits/routine, then nothing else really matters. And I'm sure you will look great, so no worries on that score!

LondonMum2026 · 03/08/2026 17:22

I’m 55 and bought a pair of these for the London marathon. Us runners have great legs so just get those damm shorts and wear with some badass attitude too!!

snowgirl1 · 03/08/2026 17:26

I've not seen Voxy shorts before - they look great! Wear the shorts.

Frankly, I'm envious of your running/swimming/yoga life - I hope I'm looking forward to that lifestyle when I retire :-)

Rumpledandcrumpled · 03/08/2026 17:30

I think from a practicality perspective it’s fine, but I’d want to wear nice clothes and not spend my full time in exercise gear.

I this though, you are only running once in the evening. And you are changing into it to do yoga, I’m not sure I’d do yoga in those shorts, they are quite high cut

They have cycle short style liners, which is one of the reasons I like them.
