Looking for dark navy dress for funeral

I need a dress for my Mum's funeral later this month. She said she wants people to wear what they are comfortable in but Dad will extract traditional formality, however I don't wear black as it doesn't suit me so I'm thinking something dark navy.

I'm 52, size 14 with menopausal tummy bloat and Dcup boobs.

I like slash/boat necks and short sleeves.

I've been looking but I can't find anything I like that I might then wear again.

It's probably the wrong time of year for dark dresses but can anyone help?

I'm sorry for your loss - I wore a navy shirt waister to my fathers funeral on one of the hottest days of the year in June so I think it is important to get something that isn't too heavy.

Would this work? https://www.marksandspencer.com/cotton-rich-knee-length-wrap-dress/p/clp61224039#intid=pid_pg1pip48g4r2c3

or this - the tiered skirt is perhaps a bit less formal but should be cool? https://www.marksandspencer.com/navagio-pure-cotton-midi-shirt-dress/p/clp23070958?color=NAVY#intid=pid_pg1pip48g4r5c2%7Cprodflag_plp_ts_QP_36

I'm not keen on the first one but the second is very me and I love the third one, it's beautiful.

This is very pretty but I think a little too fluttery fit a funeral. I would definitely wear it in general though

I had already logged at Roman. The first one is too bright I think, and the second one would normally be my sort of thing but there's something about the styling on it that isn't speaking to me.

I bought a navy linen shift dress in Seasalt recently which would fit the bill.

I am sorry for your loss. Have a look at Ede and Ravenscroft. There look to be a lot of suitable dresses there, including in the sale.

LadyLapsang · 01/08/2026 20:46

If you are looking for a more inexpensive option there are two different styles of Finery dresses in a navy 14 on sale on TK Maxx online for £24.99 each.

This dress from Boden is versatile. Plain enough, but you could add a jacket if needed.

I bought this from Amazon for a funeral a month ago as weather was too hot for what I was going to wear. I was lovely on and very slimming, iam 53,5ft 2 size 14, it came just below my knee on me

This is lovely and reminds me that I have something similar but with white and yellow trim in my wardrobe, which might do the job.

Hi, I am very sorry for your loss.
I wore a dark navy dress from Cos for my parent’s funeral recently. It was sleeveless so wore a light cardigan over it.

Coast has a sale on with an extra 20%off. These are the result of a search on navy dresses, so in shows all styles.

Please don’t overthink it, just choose something that you feel comfortable in eg fits you well and doesn’t need adjusting whilst wearing eg pulling skirt down as it rides up. My “funeral” dress is Hobbs (occupational hazard, I go to a lot)

I hate black too. As Ive got older Ive found navy to be a real lifesaver.

I have a very old Hobbs dress in navy with 3/4 sleeves similar to the lovely one recommended on here , with the flowy skirt , it’s my funeral dress. Wore it to a parent’s funeral and countless others. It washes like a dream. A great investment.

Give yourself time to get other this , I found it hit very hard afterwards . 💐
