Can anyone recommend a decent hair dryer?

I’ve never gone for expensive hair dryers, I think £50 is the average spend which may explain my issues. I have hard to maintain hair so when I blow dry it I need to do it in sections and take my time or I end up with a frizzy untameable mess. I’ve had 4 hairdryers over the past 2 years and after a few months of use they overheat and stop working until they cool down which means I then need to quickly dry my hair as fast as possible before it overheats. I’m fed up and want a decent one that can last at least a while longer than the rest. Any recommendations?

DD has just been given a Dyson Airwrap & absolutely loves it!
The £300 was worth it; she says that her (brown, long, sometimes a tad greasy & dull) hair has never been so swishy & stylish. She is a very happy bunny!

Nothing fancy, no gadgets' with it, but i have bought Lidl hairdryers. Use it 3 to 4 times.per week on me and at least once a fortnight on the dog !!! Sometimes once a week depending on how much dirt he rolls in. 🙄

Current hairdryer is about 2 or 3 years old. Doesn't overheat. Has a cool shot button. Maximum price £20 ish . Bought 2...extra one was for the spare bedroom for visitors as they were so reasonably priced.

Full disclosure i have straight, fine, but a fair amount of hair. Only recently discovered that using the lower blow speed and heat significantly contributed to much less frizz in my 60 year.old hair ...rather than the blasting I used to give it of heat and power.

Just to add ive been buying lidl hairdryers for about 10 to 15 years always lasted for years not months . Great. I have no particular affiliation or loyalty to Lidl

I have a Parlux which is what they use in my salon.

Parlux. Mine lasted about 10 years.

I have Parlux and Dyson, both excellent.

If it’s overheating that frequently are you sure it doesn’t just need the dust cleaning out?

I recently got the shark speed style & seems good so far very powerful, think it was around £120

I love my Dyson and I say that as someone who is useless at anything hair related.

Love my Dyson Airwrap, I’m shite with hair but it was a total game changer for my previously frizzy mess. A lot quicker than any other dryer I’ve found too, with thick hair, that really helps.

I've got quite coarse grey hair and the Dyson hairdryer has completely changed the texture of my hair. I didn't really notice until we went away for a week and I had to use a different one.... my hair was like straw by the end of the week.

Not being obtuse but apart from attachments , airwrap stuff...what does one hairdryer do that another doesnt?

Is it ion technology, is it speed/heat options, nozzles...i is confused.

A good one will have directional air flow and not over heat and last longer generally,also dry faster.

My DD and I have Dysons-they are much faster and lighter than any hair dryer I have very tried. My friend has a Parlux and that weighs a tonne.

Dh gave me a Dyson and that's the biggest advantage,the fact it's so light.

Dyson, the hairdryer not the air wrap. Although I understand the new upgraded air wrap is now a lot better than the original.

I’ve a Dyson nural, it’s quiet, doesn’t over heat, has scalp protection so it detects when close to you head and lowers its heat , if you’ve a lot of hair, like me, you can sit it down without switching it off and it lowers the heat till you pick it up again and the attachments actually work and make a difference.

id say parlux and ghd also make very decent dryers, ive had both, obvs a much, much lower price point but you do get what you pay for.

My (very) old hairdryer started overheating recently. I hadn't cleaned the air filter in five years and were nearly blocked 😱 Have you checked yours OP?

God I can’t explain the tech , but the Dyson uses air more than heat to dry , and it’s much quieter than any other hair dryer I’ve had. It also measures the heat, something like 40 odd times a second to ensure your hair doesn’t get damaged, and it puts ions out to smooth frizz and flyaways.

Parlux was a game changer for me after cheapy ones.

I have collar length hair, holds water like a sponge, tonnes of it. Parlux dries it faster and smoother. Approx 12 years old now, used daily.

Parlux here too. I thought a hairdryer was just a hairdryer til I got this, actually dries my hair quickly without just randomly blowing it about. I think mine was about £80 but that was 10 years ago

I had a Parlux that lasted 11 years and recently replaced it with a Dyson. The Dyson is pretty and all but I wish I’d gone with another Parlux.

Parlux here as well. Used a Babyliss in a hotel recently and that was pretty good. My hairdresser had a really slim one recently. Just Googled and think it might have been a Shark one. Looked smaller and lighter.

I’ve got the Shark flex style 5-in-1, so can be used as an air wrap, blow dry brush etc. I only use it as a hairdryer and a blow dry brush but it’s amazing. I got it when I had a full head of hair extensions and it cut the drying time down by half. I don’t have the extensions anymore, but it’s amazing.
