This dress for Ronnie Scott’s?

Is this dress too lairy for Ronnie Scott’s jazz club? See pic (I know, it needs ironing). Am going this summer so want something cool. I rarely wear black.

People wear all sorts! Everything from sequins to jeans. It's air conditioned inside, so you don't need to worry too much about the heat. I usually go in cocktail style dress but that's just because I like the excuse!!

I think you can wear what you like. It's not exactly a nightclub.

You can wear pretty much anything to Ronnie Scott's. It's a relaxed evening out - you wouldn't want to wear sportswear or beach flip-flops, but some people will be in jeans and some will go very glitzy and others will be wearing things like the dress you've chosen. You definitely won't look out of place or inappropriate!

That looks perfect to me. It's a very relaxed dress code, and people wear anything from jeans to a full going-out get-up. Your dress looks great. Enjoy!

Ronnie Scotts is just all about the music. If you want to fit in, the most important thing is not to chat during the music more than wearing specific clothes.
You are sitting down behind a table pointing towards the music so not much shows anyway. The musicians are amazing (and so are the burgers)

I always go in sequins so if your definition is 'too bright' then definitely not! Not possible IMO!

That dress however is very ’casual daytime/pub garden’ type of thing. I’d go a bit more glam.

As others have said said, wear what you want it’s really relaxed. Personally I like to dress up a bit because I rarely go out. Sometimes that will be heels and jeans with a nice top, sometimes a dress.

Interesting. I've only ever heard "lairy" used to mean rowdy and slightly aggressive, usually referring to pissed up blokes after the pubs have shut!

Are you going for Sunday lunch or an evening show? It’s a lovely opportunity to get dressed up if it’s the evening show, last time I went ( Oct ‘25) I wore a navy sequin skirt, navy merino roll neck, silver high heeled ankle boots and a silver chain belt.

No need to dress up. It’s casual ime.

Thanks. I've never heard it before. I wonder if it's a regional term, or if it's just one of those words that's come into general use since I lived in the UK 30 years ago? (Minging is an example of such a word.)

There’s always a poster rushing to say that they go all the time and it’s nothing special and they just throw on any old thing (see eleventybillion sneery threads when an OP enquires about a dress code).

That dress is a bit outdoorsy I would say; and looks as if it might wrinkle and ride up (you’ll be in a chair). Slightly more evening-y garb might be better. Also food is good so elasticated waist a plus!

It wouldn't matter what context you used it in, because I've never heard the word in any context!

Next question - what does push mean in the context of a silk cocktail dress?
