Do I just have ultra snowflake delicate feet?

custardlover · Today 15:09

Or are all the people wearing the beautiful looking but razor sharp / flat as a pancake / rough edged sandals writhing in pain inside?

WHO BUYS AND WEARS THESE AND HOW? They look gorgeous but I know they are going to shred the skin off my toes/heels, they’re going to make me limp with damp and bloody digits, I will think of nothing other than the pain in my feel all day and eventually give up and cry and throw them away feeling like a feet failure.

I’d love there to be a secret method to wearing the strappy / glittery / pretty and delicate sandals that I just need to learn. Or do I need to just live with pain for beauty (I won’t)? Or are my feet just wrong somehow?

Me too. Feet like the skin of a baby bird. I always wonder about soldiers - I would be left with bloodied stumps. We are meant to be carried on silk cushions.

Pistachiocake · Today 15:11

I was fine with any shoe when younger, but now have issues-came on after my first pregnancy. Don't know if it's hormones to do with that, or just age. All I can suggest is some brands are easier than others.

Hatty65 · Today 15:11

I feel your pain.

I have horny feet like a goblin, but don't understand how people wear toe ring sandals, sling backs or strappy things. My hooves would be sore and breaking out in scabs if I wore anything like that.

I'm going for orthopaedic look footwear nowadays. Have given up entirely on style.

TheChosenTwo · Today 15:12

What kind of sandals are you talking about op, can you share a photo?
I own some Birkenstocks which are comfortable (but ugly) that I wear on holiday, some flip flops that get worn at the beach or spa but other than that I’m in proper closed toe shoes/trainers because they’re just practical.
I no longer wear uncomfortable shoes but could always put up with them when I did. If they rubbed and gave me blisters I got on with it. I don’t do it anymore, life is way too short so I just put something on my feet that allows me to carry on with my day without pain!

custardlover · Today 15:13

But honestly, those who do wear them, please tell us how? Is there a local anaesthetic we need to invest in first? Hypnosis?

OP posts:
minipie · Today 15:13

It massively varies from shoe to shoe tbh, some look uncomfy but aren’t . I have to try on a lot in order to find the ones that feel like they won’t rub.

Also I do have quite lizardy skin especially in summer. DD has feet like yours, they rub as soon as you look at them. I’m hoping they will toughen up as she gets older.

custardlover · Today 15:16

Eg - these just look like impossible shoes to me.

After years of hobbling about with blisters etc etc etc in the name of ‘fashion’ I’ve discovered Pavers. Omg, the Holy Grail of sandals; well, I call them ‘nandals’ as I’m a grandma. No breaking in. No rubbing. Like gliding on air x

minipie · Today 15:19

So with the ones you’ve pictured, I agree, there are so many little straps going everywhere that one of them is bound to hit delicate skin and rub.

However I have these and they work because they only have straps in two places - round the ankle and right across the widest part of the toes - and the skin in those places is quite tough.

Nothing across the side of the instep or further down the toes for example which would definitely be sore.

Breadlegs · Today 15:20

No these are just uncomfy shoes. they give me shudders just looking at them. But I have no embraced my sensory issues and refuse to wear things like this anymore!

I also am sure that shoes have changed shape. I now need a wide in some shoes, but my feet technically measure very very narrow. I think it's because shoes are designed around the petite Chinese feet who are making them and somehow when you go up the sizes (for me size 7) the proportions go out of whack.

custardlover · Today 15:20

Oh yes I have plenty of comfy ones - sketchers and crocs and fit flops and they are fine but I just wonder about the other kind. I am on holiday right now and see so many women wafting around in shoes like the above and I just think HOW? I mean, they look gorgeous and elegant but on so painful, especially in the 37 degree heat!

OP posts:
MaturingCheeseball · Today 15:23

Me too. My feet only have to look at a new shoe and blisters form, skin rubs off… I’m no stranger to blood-soaked socks, and as for sandals…

I do have very soft skin (er, pudgy) and footwear has been a lifelong struggle. People on here often point to “comfortable stylish” sandals and I can see from a mile off seven points of rubbing.

I honestly think some women are just used to wearing really uncomfortable shoes from having done so their whole lives, and it doesn't even register as much. And/ or they are not doing a lot of walking in those shoes.

I've worn trainers and comfy sandals my whole life, and can't even look at a pair of shoes like the ones you describe. I'm not fussed though tbh.

afaloren · Today 15:42

My mum and I call our feet (Surname) Feet because we are SO tender and pathetic! I feel your pain.

purplepuffa · Today 15:44

custardlover · Today 15:16

Eg - these just look like impossible shoes to me.

These are the kind of shoes I think people must mostly wear to go e.g. out for dinner - where they are mostly sat down and just for a few hours.

And probably then in pain the next day 😅

Huckleberries · Today 15:46

I don't find them painful, but they're itchy

And then I take them off and they've rubbed, but I didn't notice them rubbing

The slingbacks on the left-hand side look really nice and I would be happy to wear them at an evening thing where I didn't have to walk a lot

No one is spending all day in these shoes, are they? They must have really tough skin. Like in a good way.

The trick is to not be standing up for long - they are suitable from going from building to cab, cab to vip section in club (with seats) then back to cab, then to home. They aren’t suitable for wearing all day and using public transport. I’ve got 3 pairs of sandals on the go currently, all comfortable but none look like those

Nannyfannybanny · Today 15:50

Forty years plus nursing, lovely comfy shoes,in the 70s proper nursing shoes, when I retired 10 years ago, sneaked onto the night shift in plain black trainers, you could hardly see, under the trousers..I don't possess any shoes, I have boots, trainers, boots..yes, very soft delicate skin. When dd was at primary school, I had a pair of really soft suede sliders. I wore them to the school,7 minutes walk, blisters popped, bleeding, walked home bare foot. I can't wear flipflops I can't keep them on,toe posts are agony.. podiatrists commented on soft skin delicate feet. I'm a pensioner on a budget, got a couple of pairs of non leather, very soft sandals in Deucman.

TheyGrewUp · Today 15:53

I have tender, soft feet and can't bear uncomfy shoes. I have concluded after many decades that that if a shoe isn't perfect in the shop, it will never be comfortable.

I have never done high heels. I find birkenstocks articles of torture. Ditto the original Dr Scholls and anything like a flip flop, I find the bit between my toes excrutiating.

Clark's are usually OK if they fit properly. Better quality shoes, ime, tend to have softer leather. M&S shoes come with a complimentary blister.

Penny Chilvers are good, as are Bobbies. I miss Russell & Bromle and LK Bennet of 20 years ago. My go to day to day shoes (dons flak jacket) are Gabor, Seibel, Clarks. But I am old.

BurntBroccoli · Today 15:53

custardlover · Today 15:16

Eg - these just look like impossible shoes to me.

Yup - my feet are not meant to be in such stringlike shoes. Just couldn’t walk in those.

Fgfgfg · Today 16:00

I have several styles of Birkenstocks and a pair of Havaianas sliders. Anything else reduces my feet to bloody stumps within an hour. I lied to my feet and bought cheaper fake Birkenstocks. The feet knew and they fought back. You can't return blood stained shoes and I wouldn't inflict them on a charity shop so into the bin they went.

HeatwaveHotel · Today 16:02

I have very sensitive feet too. Bony with high arches and paper thin skin - the most comfortable looking shoes or sandals can shred my feet to bits.

My feet sweat and blister within an hour in anything plasticky like Saltwater sandals / jelly shoes / Crocs.

Havaiana-style flipflops blister between my toes.

Birkenstocks - absolutely not! Blistered my toes and left me with aching soles after one afternoon of trying out my daughter’s.

Mules just fly off my high arches.

I can’t do strappy sandals if the strap material is hard (blisters!) or they have those smooth, slippy soles.

I’m currently alternating between some slim, strappy tan sandals in very soft leather (about 5 years old from Aldo!) and some gold strappy sandals with a slightly grippy sole from Monsoon last year. It’s always touch and go each year if I’ll find anything that looks nice and is comfy!
