I am looking at this dress for my wedding dress in Gibraltar next year. I am 5' 3" and 56 yo. How can I elevate it to more weddingy. I'd like maybe to wear a hat (no fascinator nor netting over the face as this will annoy me.

A woman in the Novara - Ivory vintage floral lace dress with curved short sleeves and front buttons, accessorized with layered gold necklaces, a pearl choker, hoop earrings, and gold bangles, stands against a neutral background.

Novara - Ivory

Novara is inspired by a vintage dress that our Co-founder and Creative Director, Orlagh, discovered at Portobello. The curved sleeves create such a pretty shape that compliments the nipped-in waist and floral lace.

Oh just seen that seller has only 2 reviews, both from the same person and both bad! Sorry.

owlpassport · 10/07/2026 15:40

I think it's a gorgeous dress, but for me what makes it so beautiful is its simplicity. I don't think you need to make it 'more weddingy'. What shoes are you thinking of wearing?

Maybe a headband? Is a veil 'too much'?

it’s gorgeous, I love the sleeves

RockGirl · 10/07/2026 16:39

It's a lovely dress.

Where are you getting married and what time of year? That may influence what I say in terms of what to wear.

YourTidyGreyRobin · 10/07/2026 18:17

I've recently lost just over 6 stone so still getting used to what I can now wear. My style has obv changed as I have more options (prev. it was just 'what will cover me most') so my confidence in clothes and what goes with them is low. I am getting married in Gibraltar next May. I was worried the dress was not enough but some of you lovely people think it might be.

I'm not a fan of headbands and I have shortish (menopausal thinning) hair so assumed a hat would be the best as I cannot do much with it but not good at styling at the moment.

Cute! These used to be my style pre-weight - I had forgotten. All I own now are orthopaedic shoes 😀

Gorgeous dress.

I think a hat would make you look more like a guest than the bride.

I’d just use this as an excuse to buy some lovely shoes that you could wear again, even if just to dress up jeans down the pub!

potterspot · 10/07/2026 18:42

@YourTidyGreyRobinthat made me laugh but my sympathies.

potterspot · 10/07/2026 18:42

Well done on the weight loss!

MerylSqueak · 10/07/2026 18:47

It's a beautiful dress. Don't go for anything like the accessories they've put with it. They're phenomenally bad.

I was so focussed on headwear to elevate this dress that I had forgotten about shoes. I feel much happier people saying this dress is lovely on its own, thank you all. Once I have the bouquet and a beaming smile, I cannot be mistaken for a guest surely.

Lots of lovely ideas to go into your hair to make you look bridal without having to go for a veil.

I agree with a PP that a hat would look more guest than bride.

The lovely dress, some pretty shoes and a bit of sparkle in your hair and if you want one a bouquet and you will be unmistakably the bride.

I would consider changing the buttons to something more special. How about pearl spheres? Still elegant. Lots needed though.

LollyWillow · 10/07/2026 21:19

I think this is a gorgeous dress. This, the hair accessories suggested by @KitchenColourandstyle and a bouquet and you will look fantastic. I honestly don't think it needs anything more.

AbzMoz · 10/07/2026 21:22

Obviously a minimal bag (if any!) that doesn’t detract.
I’d avoid all necklaces (unless you have a sentimental one) as that cut is beautiful, add elegant stud diamond /pearl earrings and pick up whichever material in a barrette for an elegant and unfussy hairdo. Strappy shoes in same colour but also pumps for dancing if that’s on the agenda.

it’s a gorgeous dress and I hope you have a fabulous wedding!

YourTidyGreyRobin · 10/07/2026 22:15

Thanks again all. No hat now. I think I was panicking. 1st and last wedding, want to look my absolute best 😉

No hat! Too mother of the bride than bride I think. The dress is absolutely beautiful and I think a hat or headband would detract.

I think a simple slide or pin either at the back (if hair up) or sweeping one side of hair (if hair down). Something simple with some elegant earrings and no necklace.

You could wear some glam shoes. Dune usually have a nice bridal range.

Happyjoe · 10/07/2026 23:23

The dress is absolutely gorgeous, I don't think you need a hat, plus will it be hot too? I would perhaps just use a couple of pretty hair clips/accessories and let your dress and you do the talking - I bet you will look beautiful!

Congrats, enjoy your big day.
