Floaty short sleeved summer dress with some shape

I'm looking for a thin, cool to wear, 100% cotton dress with short sleeves. I really don't like my legs, so would prefer maxi or longish midi length.
I like greens, blues, pinks and purples.
I usually shop in Fatface, White Stuff, M&S
Any suggestions please?

Thank you so much everyone! So many great ideas I love some of the Next dresses and also some of the Finery ones. I'm going to have to make ome difficult choices now! I like the look of Nobody's Child dresses but they sometimes feel a bit bulky. I was hoping for really fine cotton.

It's one of those Chinese scam sites. They are getting harder to spot now

Finery? It’s always in the press like the times and I have bought stuff from there and they stock it in M&S?

DeetAils · 10/07/2026 15:18

It was not a scam link. It was me trying to experiment to do what other people do, posting a link but with a word instead of url. I googled how to do it and it went terribly wrong.😂

Edited

Haha not suggesting you were posting a scam link, but yes, the website looked odd!

I got scammed last year.

I have this dress in 3 colours. Although none of which are shown here.

i got mine last summer so maybe these are this years colours.

I have just bought the lilibet ivory tropical dress from fat face, not sure how to post the link but its lovely and seems to be what you're after, its very flattering

Amireallyhere · 10/07/2026 22:13

I love the Roman dress in both colours! @tiredhotmess Maybe mot casual enough for an every day dress.

Cotton isn’t very “floaty”.

I think very fine cotton can be.

Try searching for the Australian brand Jaase on vinted or google lots of beautiful floaty dresses of different lengths.

place marking

Nobody's Child's classic tea dress cut is exactly what you want. fitted around the ribcage but floaty below.

Avery midi dress

Edited to say - the cut is what you want, but it's viscose, not cottn. But I have two of these dresses and they are very cool in summer.

This is a nice dress from Oliver Bonas & fits most of your brief but has 3/4 sleeves instead of short sleeves.

Love that. Beautiful print. 💙

I don't think of cotton as being floaty, I have lots of cotton dresses and they're comfy but not floaty. I bought a nice dress in Tesco today it's lovely and light, very floaty, not 100% cotton though

Take a look at this https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/349862102/?icid=ghsandapp_ghs_pdp_share

I always think this. And then I think people must have odd definitions of floaty. None of my cotton dresses could be described as that.

SourdoughSally · Yesterday 10:06

There are lots of lovely dresses online but so many aren't cotton and therefore sweaty

Depends on the weight of cotton. I havevdresses from Palava which are quite heavyweight and are wearable in cold weather. I have Liberty and Cabbages and Roses dresses in fine tana lawn which definitely are floaty

Have a look at Popsy dresses. Bonus - they all have pockets!

I tried this on yesterday and it was surprisingly flattering. Half cotton and half viscose but I don't mind viscose as it's at least made from plants.
