Wedding guest outfit tall order

I am going to a wedding in Sweeden (Danish Swedish couple) my niece.. in August

Im struggling to find anything I feel comfortable in. Not aided by the fact Ive realised I am not that keen on a lot of the current fashions..

Im a 16/18 a E cup. (Large chest)

I do not suit wrap dresses
I do not suit dresses with a wasit and then pleats in the waist.
I dont usualy suit slip dresses but there are exceptions
I have post menopause put on weight round my middle and I am not comfortable with my body (I know this plays a part of why I am struggling)

My dd says my style is soft taylored.
I really would prefer it not to be all polyester

I like more plain cuts but am not afraid of patterns or colour

I am a warm spring

Budget is around £100.

I do not want to buy from Shein Temu etc

For my dds wedding last year I wore a lace and bead dress I have considered buying from them again but it feels a bit too similar..

I love needle and thread but they are out of my budget.
I am reluctant to use vinted/ebay due to my shape being odd and if I cant try I end up wasting money. (I do not have anything against Vinted/Ebay just not for this.)

I am in love with Alquema Collare Coat and Estrella Dress https://www.nshelley.co.uk/products/alquema-ad1072l-ac2404-plisse-estrella-sleeveless-dress-and-collare-coat-fuchsia-ombre. But it is very out of my budget.

I know this is a tall order but I am stuck.

Edit brands I like
White company
Aspiga
Max Mara weekend
Damsel Madder

Have you considered Sahara? You may well find something within your budget when their next sale starts.

Italiangreyhound · 04/07/2026 19:44

"But not suitable for a wedding?"

I would say it was but maybe not. What does OP think.

But not suitable for a wedding?

I sewed the plunge a bit for dd1s wedding and would.again if I chose to buy from them again

I would say your style as is the polar opposite of my own style so these suggestions might be way off. Sorry. Monsoon have a big sale at the moment. I’m not sure you’ll get anything for your budget that isn’t polyester though.

I think if you’re worried about the clash of styles with the Swedish guests then consider introducing some ease into the look.

How do you mean some "ease"

Sorry I was being vague. I suppose a style which is less structured and fitted.

I'm puzzled about the no polyester as the dresses you linked to look like polyester - the one at £480 is noticeably silent about what it's made from but it certainly looks like polyester, especially given the number of colour options it comes in.

I'm also puzzled that you say you like White company, Aspiga, Max Mara weekend and Damson Madder (I assume you mean Damson Madder?) but the 2 dresses you linked are nothing like those brands.

Why puzzled I have more than one set way I like. I think many of us do. I mentioned the brands as I wanted to give people a direction in what I liked. Doesnt mean I am against people thinking outside that box

I adore Gudrun Sjoden I think it looks aamzing but her style doesnt suit me. I still adore her clothing.

Dd1 got married in October polyester was ok to wear. In August with the weather we have now I do not think it will be comfortable. I am also trying to cut down on how much non natural fibres I buy.

I like fairly clean lines in my clothing style I think the Alquema dress goes with that preference. The lace and bead dress less so however its IMO not a loud fuzzy dress either.

I am familar with unfolded I wear their dresses for work a lot. I think due to that I am less keen on them for a special occasion..(i do love their wide troussers)

I like mint velvet but their dresses are mot cut for a large bust and a stomach..

Ok, but those brands are a million miles in the opposite direction from the Alquema Collare Coat and Estrella Dress. I love Max Mara and Damson Madder - but if the Estrella Dress is your style goal I wouldn't know where to begin - it's so far from anything I'd consider.

It's over your budget

Or this

These are slightly over budget and in the Aspiga, Damson Madder, Max Mara ballpark.

I didnt say that dress was my goal just that I was in love with it. Its also x4.my budget. And I havent found any dupes I like.

I disagree that Alquema is " a million miles in the opposite direction" I have seen Max Mara have similar styles to that. From what you are suggesting. You are more in the Damson Madder style end and Maxmara weekend can go there too (like those gorgous two fabric skirts they do) but thats likely why you are not seeing the similarity. I will agree Damson Madder doesnt do anything like that. I will also say that White company and Damson Madder doesnt overlap. I like and wear both brands.

I have already looked at the blue MaxMara dress its gorgous but way above my budget

Also like the Giselle dress but they only have a size 6. Google only shows it in Selfridges also onlynin a size 6

Like the waterlily dress it however gives me work wibes (but I am considering it for work)

Not keen on the pansy one.

Hard to see what the Astice dress is like I do wish. Shops wouldnt just lie them flat like that. Kinda like the lobsters. Gives me "hes her lobster wibes)

I am exploring the site more as I am not familiar with that.

Well, we'll have to disagree. I think it's awful. I don't like everything on Max Mara but I don't think there's usually anything I wouldn't wear if stuck for choice. There's no way I'd wear the Alquema dress. If you like it you might find dupes on JJ's House (that's not a recommendation, just that I've seen posters suggest it for "mother of the bride", "occasion wear")

Rocknrollstar · 05/07/2026 09:47

I love the Estrella Dress. Go for it and stop driving yourself crazy.

I cannot justify spending that much on a dress at the moment. I do think it is gorgeous

@PhaedraTwo we will have to agree to disagree. However like you say you dont like everything from MaxMara Weekend there is a chance that what you dont like are the styles I like and visa versa. I dont think any of us like everything a brand presents.

I would recommend Ullapopken, Live unlimited, Joanna Hope Scarlett and Jo ASOS . I see you don't like the idea of Vinted/eBay. I have had some lovely clothes that I could not afford from their new stock and I get plenty of people telling me that I suit the styles and colours. I always have the attitude nothing will go wrong and amazingly I have only ever had great results. If you are thinking the clothes will only be a one off have you considered renting? When I buy clothes my hope is always that I can wear them many times. Trousers and a gorgeous top would also be fine. I do hope you enjoy wearing whatever you buy.

madaboutpurple · 07/07/2026 21:22

Sorry Op, I re-read your first post and can understand why vinted /eBay will be no use. I can agree you would be far better off going to a shop where you can try things on .In your area do you have many places you can go to? I do hope you can get something that you feel great in..
