Just want to celebrate that I wore a bikini at our local pool today, the first time in a very long time and I feel great about it.
if you feel your bikini days are behind you maybe they are not. Certainly in Europe women seem to wear bikinis at all ages, we can do it too.

I will be in a bikini for as long as possible. Hate costumes.

WeddingInvitation · 29/06/2026 11:11

I'm 58 and much prefer wearing a bikini - so much easier than faffing around with a one piece. And I'm wobbly, a stone overweight and got a tummy you can balance a plate of food on nicely as you lie on a sunlounger.

If it ever gets warm enough I lie in the garden in it too...

Nangula · 29/06/2026 12:08

Good for you! I’m 48, so a spring chicken (albeit a bit of a wobbly one.) The only times I wear a bathing suit is when I’m swimming for fitness at the gym. Other than that, it’s bikinis all the way, even on the beach in Maine where I was the only over 25 year old in a bikini on the beach last year.

CointreauVersial · 29/06/2026 12:18

I'm 59, and think a bikini looks better on me than a 1-piece, so I always wear them!

I don't have much of a waist, so a swimsuit makes me look like a breeze block....whereas a bikini gives the illusion of curves, and I don't look as "broad". And they are cooler to wear.

AuntieDolly · 29/06/2026 12:36

Virtually all the older ladies were wearing bikinis on holiday in Greece, regardless of size or shape. A few were in swimsuits, but absolutely no one was in a swimdress or rash vest/board shirt combo often suggested on here. No one takes a blind bit of notice.

Princessfluffy · 29/06/2026 18:42

I applaud all of you bikini wearers!

I'm 65 - just bought 2 new bikinis for my greek holiday. And they look fab 😂

I dont understand this. Im 41 and always wear a bikini - whatever size. noone in Europe cares about this. it makes me so sad that every woman I know wears a swimsuit. You never see a man - fat or thin old or young - trying to cover up at the seaside/pool!

Don't feel sad! I wear a swimsuit in a 1950s retro style and love it - it suits my figure and I feel comfortable and confident in it. Wear what makes you feel good - whether that's a one piece, tankini, or bikini 😊

Craobhkingfisher · 29/06/2026 20:36

Age 66 bikini wearer here! I give no fucks any more 😆

Runsaway · 29/06/2026 20:53

I’m 60 and it wouldn’t occur to me to not wear a bikini.

burnoutbabe · 29/06/2026 20:54

53 and I wore my long vest with swim shorts on holiday. Just much more comfortable to not have to worry about stray pubes or falling out of a bikini if swimming. Feels more natural to walk around rather than feeling I am in my underwear.
but that’s me and swimming is usually at water parks with slides.

Fatiguedwithlife · 29/06/2026 20:56

I’m 45 and am the only one of my friend group that wears a bikini. I HATE the feel of wet fabric on my body so a bikini minimises that! And a brown belly looks less doughy than a white one (I tell myself that anyway haha)

Fatiguedwithlife · 29/06/2026 20:57

Don’t give a shit if my pubes are straggling out 😆 vive la bikini! 👙

Totaldramallama · 29/06/2026 20:57

Good for you. I agree in other countries women of all shapes and sizes and ages seem to wear bikinis. I just can't bring myself to do it

mdinbc · 29/06/2026 21:05

64 and a bikini wearer as well. They are just more comfortable. I do have a proper one-piece for swim training, but struggle to find them for my longer torso size.

hahabahbag · 29/06/2026 21:09

I wear one, I have a rash vest for the outside pool (it’s cold!) otherwise just a bikini

Ohpleeeease · 29/06/2026 21:14

I’m 68, still wearing bikinis and don’t intend stopping. I do put a kaftan or sarong on when walking about, just because I’m more comfortable not being too exposed. But in the pool or by the sea, definitely a bikini.

I’ve noticed that when we go to the beach in the UK everyone over about 40 wears a one piece. In Spain, everyone over 40 wears a bikini, all the young ‘uns wear G string bottoms. That I will not do!

therockingbird · 29/06/2026 21:16

I needed to see this today.. having lost four stone and now back to a size 8 at the ripe old age of 54 I’ve been debating if it’s still acceptable for me to wear a bikini ☺️

tillyandmilly · 29/06/2026 21:17

Urgh g string bottoms for swimming should be outlawed!

Caterpillargirl23 · 29/06/2026 21:20

I am in my late 50s and thought I'd try a bikini because I can see the advantages of them on a beach holiday. I last wore one when I was about 6.

I have tried and sent back many bikinis and have eventually found something that will do, but it does not look good! I will be wearing something on top-shirt or similar.
I don't think it's an age thing, just my body shape.

TheFairyCaravan · 29/06/2026 21:24

I’m 55 and will be wearing a bikini for as long as I can. I hate wearing a one piece, they make me feel like a trussed up chicken.

Lararoft · 29/06/2026 21:26

Good! I went to Greece recently and there were women of all ages (even 80s) shapes & sizes in bikinis. I wore swimsuits as I prefer to cover my belly but I made sure they were glam ones.

Ohpleeeease · 29/06/2026 21:27

I highly recommend George at Asda for swimwear, quality, fit and value for money.

lljkk · 29/06/2026 21:31

Nodody would care where I'm from (California).
