M&S sizing really off

Do they read their own reviews? I've been looking at a few things recently and loads of the reviews highlight issues with sizing. Regular length trousers being far too long, loads of people needing to size up. I - so I imagine most people - used to have to size down in M&S (mostly jeans), now it seems they've swung too far in the other direction! Why haven't they taken notice and sorted it out?

Not just the trousers. I bought 3 ribbed t shirts, same price, size and displayed together. One is way too big, the sleeves on another are so big they're like wings, I didn't look closely enough but the third one has a different neckline to the other two (red, and lost so much dye on first wash. Luckily I hand washed it). Not impressed.

I spent over £300 online order and had to reject it all because of sizing.
And it's a devil of a job to arrange a pickup.

I realised the other day that I have gradually stopped buying in M & S, and I used to buy lots. I am 5 foot 1 and used to be a short in trousers if I wanted to wear flat shoes, regular if wearing heels. A few years back they lenghtened all the lengths, so I became extra short for flats and short for heels. However the extra short does not seem to appear in store and is limited in range, and I no longer wear heels so I have stopped buying trousers from there. I find the tops like smocks, too much flouncy sleeves and shoulders. Their knickers (hi leg multi packs) are now rubbish so I go to Sainsbury. They become fixated on weird colours like lime and it proliferates across their range. They have lost their way in sizing and in range.

What I would like to be is a slightly cheaper version of Massimo Dutti or old skool Zara, when the latter was a refreshing addition to the High Street, sort of classics with a classy continental styling (now it’s a plastic fabric weird styling).

I have money to spend on clothes but now I don’t have anything to buy. When I was younger there was loads I could not buy because I had no money.

I agree, having shop there for years, the sizing in jeans has got small, and the length i would normally buy a short at 5ft2 but now they seem a bit short, I been having more luck in next, today brought 2 pair of denim shorts size 10 fit great and they are not too tight. They also have a lot of choice online with cotton tops.

They're inconsistent in their sizing and have been for several years at least. I've always put it down to switching suppliers all the time to keep costs as low as they can. I can't say I find them any worse than any other retailer at a similar price point.

im glad I’ve come across this thread as I’ve just spent a depressing evening trying on trousers in M&S and finding that my regular size 12 are all too tight.

M&S bring back vanity sizing please.

It's not just M&S - I've just bought a fab Brave Soul jumpsuit in their sale and have had to cut 5 inches off the trouser length- I'm 5ft 4

I had to buy short length jeans, I’m 5’6! The average height in the uk is 5’6 i should be regular length

Average woman height in the UK if actually 5’4”. If anything, you should be considering long!

DailyEnergyCrisis · 27/06/2026 14:10

I used to be a 12 in M&S and Next and am now an 8 for tops, dresses, playsuits and 10 in jeans. It’s defo changed. I’m around 9 stone and 5 foot 3 so nowhere near an 8 in reality.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 27/06/2026 14:11

And yes- even short length is too long.
