Just a warning.

I have been totally and utterly scammed after following a link provided by someone posting on a MN thread this morning about Wedding outfits.

I thought I understood all the pointers to potential scamming but was really taken in for a number of reasons.

  • I really need an outfit for a Wedding so my guard was down.
  • The dress looked attractive and the price was reasonable.
  • Delivery was apparently free
  • The site indicated that they had a retail shop in an area close to me. Not close enough to drive too, but an area which is known as a really lovely shopping district
  • The site contained a very convincing story about how the business had been set up and a plausible argument for the discounts they were offering
  • There was only one of these dresses left in my size and the pressure was on to buy.
  • I was due out for an appointment so didn’t take the time to check Trustpilot
  • Neither stupidly did I see the very small print saying ‘sale’ items could not be returned.

I know, I know, I know, how could I have been so stupid !!

The minute I pressed pay the emails arrived

  • I had been charged an extra £4.95 for Insurance
  • The order would take 5 - 15 days to be processed, with no information about delivery

I challenged the Insurance charge through their contact form and was basically told ‘tough’

I then replied asking them to cancel the order and am being ignored.

In the hours since I have done some trawling, the very attractive shop front shown on the website, is in real life a Costcutter. The location of their US shop is a Pizza place on a highway. The business does not appear on companies house and their Trustpilot reviews are awful.

My credit card company say they are being inundated by scams like this and that I now need to wait to see what arrives before they can advise whether they will step in.

My only consolation through all this is that I only ordered one dress and that by the time they wrote to me offering an 20% off any additional items I might like to add to the order, I was becoming very suspicious.

So I have been scammed, am feeling stupid and incredibly cross with myself, but I have also learned a very important lesson about who and when I trust in the future when it comes to linked items.

NEVER* have

MidnightPatrol · 02/07/2026 07:43

I am being advertised a scam site on this page - ‘wearshes.com’ which also is a sale site, with a very low Trustpilot rating and people reporting very low quality products arriving from china that do not reflect the pictures….

Well the company do still get their money so it does work. I see your point ie "don't sweat it if it happens" but lots of people don't want the stress of dealing with it or to receive something they didn't order. It's not catastrophising to warn others of what to look out for.

Banks recoup the money, why is why most companies are motivated to sort out customer issues before it gets to that point. Where I bank it takes a minute to fill the form in, and about a day to get a decision.

SparrowFeet · 02/07/2026 07:56

They can try to recoup the money but often they don't get it all or any - these websites work; that's why there are so many of them.

I’ll be completely honest. I would have ordered from somewhere like that. However it’s done now and there are loads of similar businesses like it. Catastrophing is never helpful. This ‘scam’ isn’t going to work as the OP is fully protected. A voice is reason isn’t always well received 🤷🏻‍♀️

What?

Exactly. Plus anyone being caught out may well be out of pocket for some time before getting a refund. I've never bought from a site like this (they are obviously scams) but I don't believe that banks just instantly apply refunds.

I’m so sorry about your reading comprehension. It’s very obvious that the ‘is’ should’ve been of*. Getting shitty about simple typos is about what I’d expect from such a rude poster, full marks. ✅

Never ever had an issue myself. Ordered a takeaway once and it didn’t turn up. Had the money back in my account the following day and this was without being able to provide any photographic evidence during the charge back process.

Do you have genuinely no problem @fatphalangewith receiving an item which is nothing like what you thought you bought and not being able to send it back? Yes you'll get your money back eventually, maybe, but the item just ends up being added to landfill because it's shit and you can't sell it on or give it away. I despair.

No, she clearly doesn’t give a toss because she deliberately left out the posters name when she was replying and calling her a “rude condescending mare”.

Probably best not to engage with stroppy posters like that as they’ll never admit they’re wrong but just double down even further. 🤷🏻‍♀️

IRL, and certainly on the internet, when I encounter people on the wind up and repeatedly being rude, I name it and I match the tone. That’s all there is to it.

The flaw in fatphalange's argument of "doesn't matter, you'll get your money from the bank" is that it enables these fraudster sites to get the money in the first place. The bank refunds, but who cares about banks - are the banks going to pursue the fraudsters? Probably not, so effectively money is paid over to what are basically criminals.

Far better for everyone, including the banks, that no one ever gets taken in.

HiZev · 02/07/2026 10:39

I think I may have been scammed on a second hand book I bought this morning in a hurry for my son. It's a US import and hard to find and I just bought it very fast as I was so pleased to have found it for him.

I think I am generally pretty savy but I'm so stressed at the moment that it's hard not to slip up.

Absolutely, fatphalange is all about him/herself. Sometimes we need to think outside the box! Scammers are probably the reason why banks charge so much in interest & fees..they need to make their losses back somehow!

fatphalange · 02/07/2026 19:00

No I am not all about myself ffs, what a thing to say.

You shouldn't rely on banks as a catch all for if you get frauded. Yes banks will repay you the money in some not all circumstances. If a customer is regularly falling for these scams the bank will stop refunding them and can actually exit them as a customer as a liability. Also banks don't have endless pots of money and fraud can be their biggest loss, it is in the bank I work for, so the losses will be recouped somewhere else.
Sorry @Princesspeaches99 I didn't mean to quote you

Sadie1966 · 08/07/2026 17:48

I feel your pain. I too ordered a 'dress' from these charlatans recently - only £29.99 - but even so. It took almost 2 weeks to arrive and in that time I googled reviews and saw things like this! Silly me. I believe the dress was being thrown together on a sewing machine while I waited - cheap material and all the wrong shape - atrocious. When I queried it and demanded a refund they said I needed to take pictures and a video of it?!. I basically just wanted to wash my hands of them so Im not doing anything other than putting the dress in the clothing bin at my dump.I have reported the company online and am hoping they will be shut down. More people should do the same.
