Disguising arms in summer dresses

I've ordered a lovely shirred dress from Hush. Trouble is, it's sleeveless. I am 50s and have just lost some weight and have horrible crepey wobbly arms. So I'm thinking of what would look stylish to wear over it? Suggestions welcome!

I sometimes wear plain white T-shirts underneath.

Sleevey wonders. In the USA but you can get some of them off Amazon in the uk or order direct from the states.

Thank you! I will give these a check out. I always think I look like Granny Murchy with a cardigan

I have Mounjaro arms too. And neck! Crepe city!

I’m 68. My arms are - my arms! I wear sleeveless all the time and no one (including me) cares. Be brave and don’t ruin the look of your dress.

Nikkynakkynoo · Yesterday 14:49

I like a light linen or silk shirt, oversized boyfriend style with long sleeves rolled up.

I agree with this. I actually think trying to cover things up often draws more attention to them. A good body moisturiser or fake tan can work wonders too.

I got very lightweight long sleeved cotton beach shirts in Primark last year for £10 each, which meant I could treat myself to two in different colours and one with a pattern. They are an absolute godsend on hot days when I want to completely cover my arms from the sun without adding weight and heat. And out of context they don't particularly look like beach wear, just nice summer shirts.

Just get your arms (and legs) out.

SpareVanKeys · Yesterday 15:36

I just bought this and it’s so light and looks nice https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0GFJ5RM4G?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Having said that I’m with Theresnolimits too and feel tempted to just get the arms out tbh. Who will care really? Well me probably but at 61 I think I should stop worrying 😄

I always think wearing a cardigan or shrug or whatever draws attention more. Like it’s obvious I am hiding my arms. So I don’t tend to buy sleeveless. I can do short sleeves but not sleeveless.

If I wear a sleeveless vest type tshirt or dress I wear a linen or cotton shirt over it with the sleeves rolled up.

Sgtmajormummy · Yesterday 15:46

I saw somebody modelling this style in cotton pointelle. It’s basically two long sleeves attached to a wraparound scarf.
I thought it would be perfect for an evening outdoor event over a summer dress when it starts getting cool.
Don’t smush your arms to your sides and swipe on a bit of fake tan. You’ll be fine!

That’s so clever. First time I’ve heard of Sleevey wonders.

Love this reply. OP take note!

Just say fuck it 🤷‍♀️ who cares.

Overtheatlantic · Yesterday 16:48

After reading some of these replies I’m seriously considering celebrating my Mounjaro arms. A bit of fake tan or some sparkling body lotion maybe.

Shufflebumnessie · Yesterday 17:06

I've just bought this, I really like it (I'm a size 12 on top and bought the small, the medium was too baggy for my liking)

Can you still by Wingz? I have a couple of different ones, one is t shirt arms, the other a sort of floaty black short sleeve. They're basically sleeves that you wear under your dress but with just a little bit of fabric under your bust instead of a whole extra hot layer.

Tbh I am a bit younger and my arms are still ok and it would never in a million years occur to me that someone wearing a cardigan was wearing it because they were hiding their arms. I'd just think they needed an extra layer.

I think that is self-consciousness taking the driving seat when you imagine it draws more attention! It really doesn't because no-one can see them!

Oh ... well, to add to what I just posted, this one might look a bit self-conscious!

I'd begin to wonder what the benefit of this contrivance was and might think "covering arms!"
ETA I think it is the kind of zitty teenager equivalent of a balaclava in the summer!

Sgtmajormummy · Yesterday 19:00

With all due respect, if you’d read the post properly you might have understood what the benefit was.
You’re so young and toned you’ve never felt cold on a summer evening, I suppose.

agree. I doubt I would even notice the shape or size of someone's bare arms. I would notice (and think wtf) if someone was wearing what looks like a knitted straitjacket....

Prombles · Yesterday 19:20

The best cover up is a light, crochet bolero in white, neutral or a colour to match the dress. But you shouldn't worry about your arms, lots of people have crepey arms, I certainly do!

lazyarse123 · Yesterday 19:40

I have fat arms, matches the fat everything else. I'm not bothered as I have no fashion sense anyway but I do have a rather nice white cotton short sleeved shirt that I wear with sun dresses or wide legged trousers and vest tops if it's not quite warm enough.
