Disguising arms in summer dresses

I've ordered a lovely shirred dress from Hush. Trouble is, it's sleeveless. I am 50s and have just lost some weight and have horrible crepey wobbly arms. So I'm thinking of what would look stylish to wear over it? Suggestions welcome!

I go one step further - I cut the sleeves off the white t-shirt, and sew them onto the dress, so it looks like I’ve got a t-shirt underneath, but without the extra bulkiness.

Obviously this only works if it looks OK with the particular dress, and if you can sew.

I would just think it was sensible wear for this country given that it can go from boiling to breezy in the space of a few hours.

Fake tan on arms, and a cover-up of pure cotton or linen shirt, lots on Vinted and you can't go wrong with a baggy linen white shirt IMO. I use them instead of sunscreen anyway.

It's truly awful.

I think a light or chambray/denim shirt usually looks better than a cardigan (at the moment) and rolled sleeves better than short sleeves, but it depends on the weather and the dress, obviously.

i think as long as your skin is well moisturised, any arms look fine in the hot weather!

I wear something like this under sleeveless dresses sometimes for warmth but it would also cover your arms (or hell, just leave them uncovered so you are comfortable and screw what anyone thinks??)

I agree. Sticking a t-shirt under a sleeveless dress-fine you're just wearing a pinafore.

But I don't believe anyone's arms are more unattractive than those Sleevey Wonder things.

And I'm astonished that anyone thinks wearing a cardigan is for any reason than adding a layer for warmth.

I decided last night to apply hyaluronic acid to my arms. Apparently you have to do it straight after the shower when the skin is damp. I will let you know how it goes - because not getting arms out in summer sounds a bit limiting.

If you scroll down the ‘bandeau’ style ones do actually look nice. My arms tend to get very goose pimply if it’s even a bit chilly. So I fancy one of those.

Honestly i think that if you hate your arms so much that you won't wear a sleeveless top/dress why buy one?!

Those sleeve things - all the ad pictures for them just look frumpy as hell. They've been bunged under clothes designed to be sleeveless. They look odd. Just buy something with sleeves ?

Im not keen on my own arms, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet and say 'it's hot, this is a sleeveless dress, it's looks best sleeveless, my arms are hard working arms and i'm not in a modelling competition so fuck it - out they come'. Yes stick on a bit of fake tan if they're a lot lighter than the rest of you because they've been hidden away.

Wrt wearing something in the evening to keep the chill off, just go with roughly what's looking good at the mo.

A soft white linen rolled sleeve shirt never really goes out of fashion.

Stay away from 'waterfall' cardigans or anything long. Or shudder 'shrugs'.

Short boxy hip length cotton knits like the M&S one linked are nice. Or even a more chunky knit version.

I’ve decided enough is enough on the arm front. I’ve replaced most of my t shirts with 3/4 sleeve ones

I am not overweight and my arms aren’t fat but my upper arms are pretty horrible and flappy despite plenty exercise gardening etc and I’ve given up.

Oh God, I agree with pp’s - just get out your arms! Fake tan if you’re bothered (in fact the blur type make up is even better). Start doing weights if you can and want to - I’m also 50’s, post a big weight loss, with apparently not ideal arms. Lifting has made a big difference and I am proud of my arms now, loose skin and all.

I have Mounjaro arms. I just don’t wear anything sleeveless.

@Calliopespa - funnily enough if I see anyone else in a cardigan or whatever over a dress it doesn’t occur to be that they are hiding their arms! It’s just that I feel that way about myself.

The sensible thing would have been not to buy sleeveless in the first place because most of the time they just don't work if you change the silhouette and design with another layer and it looks like you're self conscious and suffering in the heat when someone else would have just taken that layer off. If your dress or top already has sleeves it's less suspicious.

And sorry but saggy skin at 68 is not the same as at 50 or 30, with a fresher face people are more shocked and judge you harsher when the rest of you 'doesn't match' so it's not reasonable to expect younger women to be as fine with it as someone nearly 70. Nobody is expecting you to have toned arms and elasticity at that age it's a surprise if you did!

I have lace boleros in a range of colours for evening time covering of my arms when I don't want extra warmth.

Short sleeves work better than a cardigan I think. Start using moisturiser and also a light weights routine with 3kg weights while watching tv can make a big difference if you have four plus weeks.

I've lost 3 stone and have arms that manage to be still fat and yet saggy at the same time. I just get them out because I'm not going to be hot just in case people think my arms aren't good enough.

I have a black lightweight knit short sleeved open cardigan. That gives a more formal look and tbh it helps when going out for a meal and the air con is too high. For any outdoor event I have a white, very lightweight cotton boyfriend style shirt.
It protects against the sun and looks light, fresh, airy, and casual and it isn't hot to wear over a sleeveless outfit.

I am mostly comprised of wobble and crepe. I've gone past the stage of giving much fucks to any of it, wherever they may be on my body.

My bingo wings fly loud and free!
