Going against the grain, I'm not a fan of the recent Marks & Spencer stuff

since Gillian Anderson I've sent back more stuff than I've kept
Love the cut work jacket in the first drop, but I found all the rest of the pale cream and brown stuff rather depressing and that colour really suits me normally
Ordered the print swimsuit and the fit was terrible, the crochet shorts set as well.
In the end, I've gone back to ZARA. I'm

optimistic that the next lot will be better, but it might be too late for me to buy any more summer stuff by then.

Just me? 😬😀

The new Summer of Love That stuff looks really good - not seen it in person yet though.

iCod · 14/05/2026 12:57

the marketing is better than the rather bland reality

I swerve cream and brown (and all sludgy non colours) as they just make me look ill. So it's a no from me.

I am the same. They do not work on me at all.

Viviennemary · 14/05/2026 13:10

Completely agree. I went to a large M& S last week ready to treat myself as I didnt buy many clothes last year . It was awful bows and frills. I didn't like anything.

wanderlustdiaries · 14/05/2026 13:24

It’s moved a lot younger lately. I love it.

lindyloo57 · 14/05/2026 18:18

I hate the way the pockets show through the white trousers. I still have a pair from viyella that are linen and fully lined, they are a little tight now, they must be 15 years old. I'm trying to replace but can't find a lined pair

@lindyloo57just wear nude pants

I don't think that's her point. She's not talking about her knickers!

The point is that the fabric is thin so the pockets show through - which looks really cheap. It's poor design. The fabric should ideally be of a sufficiently close weave/thickness to prevent the pockets being visible. If not, they should be fully (not half) lined.

dottydoglover · 14/05/2026 19:09

Yeah I’m not impressed with the spring summer season .. hardly any dresses at all

RampantIvy · 15/05/2026 07:56

What is it with people who decide that certain colours are "in".

As a jewel winter I will only wear colours that suit me, so if one season all the colours are muted and sludgy I won't buy anything.

I often see something in M and S in a style that I like but only in brown or lime gree or mustard, so I don't buy it.

momager22 · 15/05/2026 07:59

I’m an autumn so I look good in browns, khaki and ivory, I like M&S lately.
if you like the cuts but you want to brighten it up, bright blue looks great with brown for example. Easy to add pops of colour !

iCod · 17/05/2026 14:14

I was in a very big store and it didn't look good at you know the bit by the entrance where they have the new stuff, because I think the contrast wasn't good enough
Apart from that stuff, everything was quite messy and this is one of their flagship stores.
Hate the term pop of colour ! 😀

Thing is, even all these influencers raving over M&s at the moment, with their stash of clothes to try on look so frumpy; shapeless, unflattering dresses, excess frills, bows and ruffles or beige, more beige, cream, and not to forget beige drawstring wide leg trousers.

😁
A bright scarf will not prevent a greige top from making me look ill.

Me too; plus the fact that it would be difficult to wear a bra with a lot of their dresses and no one wants to see me braless!
I think they have forgotten their core customer base of women 45+

ForPinkCrab · 17/05/2026 15:28

I agree. They had actually starting getting better and I’ve bought a few bits over the winter but this seasons clothes are awful. I put bridal guest in the search bar and not one thing came up that was remotely suitable .

I am just so fed up with every pair of trousers are wide leg (even worse :wide leg and cropped )
I bought some of the Barrel Leg trousers which are as good as I'm going to find . They look nice , casual ,

I don't like linen ( CBA with the upkeep)

I like M&S , the sizes have gone a bit wayward recently but returns are easy enough .
My 23yo DD finds loads she like for work , she's a 5'7" long legged size 6-8 and finds most trousers are flapping round her ankles .M&S iffers Long/Extra Long in tousers and Tall in clothes

ETA - I like their vegan shoes , I don't wear leather or suede

We went to the Oxford Street Pantheon M&S a couple of weeks back and there were rails and rails of "Wedding /Wedding Guest" clothes

DD wanted some black trousers , OOS online but got them there .
My favourite jeggings aren't online at the moment but I saw in store

Agree - they did a really reasonable cashmere jumper in a range of colours that was a real wardrobe staple for me last year. I tried to buy another one recently and the choice is so poor now and limited colours.

MiddleAgedDread · 17/05/2026 18:40

I walked in our local store and walked straight out again a couple of weeks ago! I needed work clothes and everything seemed to be aimed at people spending two weeks in the Med. I’m just sick of the fashion at the moment, everything is wide and boxy and bland colours.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 17/05/2026 20:35

I’ve walked through this store in the past couple of months but nothing has jumped out at me to say buy it.
