Please can someone wear this beautiful dress?

I love this so much, but, a) don't need it, b) have a bit of a tummy, c) would need to get a low-back bra, so I think there is no point in even trying. But maybe one of you have the right occasion and figure for it so that I can take vicarious pleasure from someone else wearing it?

OP posts:

I like it a lot except for the ridiculous sleeves

ohyesido · 08/05/2026 18:50

It’s cute but that material is too shiny imagine if you spilled coffee on it, or if you’re anything like me, dripped greasy popcorn or crisps on it

Shrinkhole · 08/05/2026 18:54

It’s giving me massage therapist at a posh spa…

Melarus · 08/05/2026 19:01

I like it. A lot of the dresses people link to on here are too fussy IMO, and this is a good contrast - sleek without being boring

Lovelysheep · 08/05/2026 19:09

I love it. It reminds me of a 1950 silk dress I wore until it fell to pieces.

I am not sure about a viscose and linen mix though, I’m assuming that is dry clean only.

I would have to alter the sleeves.

I have no idea what size I’d be. I was an M&S 12 but have suddenly become an M&S 14! I’m assuming I’m a Zara large-can I really be xl?!

mondaytosunday · 08/05/2026 19:12

Agree either way PP it’s dowdy and the length is terrible. And what’s with the sleeves? Frankly if it looks bad on a model it will look awful in real life.

Girlwithavibe · 08/05/2026 19:23

OhBuggerandArse · 08/05/2026 11:34

I think it would be good with some slightly Japanese-looking wedge sandals. But still not on me!

I agree I think it's absolutely gorgeous 😍

It gives me slightly Elizabeth Taylor vibes.

Sadly & this is where I have got to in life I looked it up and it can be washed at 30 degrees. Exit one stout party. 😊

Hiddeninthetrees · 08/05/2026 19:40

I think I must be looking at a different dress! To me it looks poorly put together, especially the arms and the shape is dreadful.

Moanella · 08/05/2026 20:04

Things I love about it:
Colour
Material
Waist
Sleeves

Reasons I couldn’t wear it:
Not maxi length (I have horrible legs)
I like a lower/wider neckline

Reminds me of a little silk cheongsam dress I used to wear as a skinny teen experimenting with my ‘look’

EleanorMc67 · 09/05/2026 02:50

I really like it, now that I've looked at the other photos. But then I love sleeve details, kimono-influenced dresses/jackets etc.

Would need to see the fabric in the flesh but the slight lustre makes it evening-appropriate, which I like. And with the right smooth, high coverage undies, I think lumps & bumps shouldn't be a worry?

I would give it a go, OP? Though I completely understand the vicarious pleasure thing!

Villanousvillans · 09/05/2026 02:56

I was hoping for something amazing, from your post OP. It’s not amazing.

Somesweetday · 09/05/2026 04:18

A great example of telling people something is beautifu and expecting them to actually believe you and suspend their own critical faculties.

Fwiw I agree with @Shrinkhole

Lots of people on the thread think it's lovely. Lots don't. No-one is right or wrong. It's subjective.

Well yes you are right everybody has their own opinion on the dress.

It's OP's assumption that because she thinks it's a beautiful dress then it must be a beautiful dress that is annoying.

She literally starts the post with "I love this so much" - you can't ask for a clearer acknowledgement of subjectivity than that.

Are we really at the point where every time someone uses an adjective that implies appraisal, they have to put in afterwards "(IMO, others may feel differently)" so that no one feels disregarded?

It 's the thread title that makes the assumption.
It sets the whole premise of the thread as this is a beautiful dress and it's non negotiable.

hidingmynuts · 09/05/2026 09:39

If you love it you should buy it.

Personally I dont think it's gorgeous though. It looks like a plain dressing gown to me- the kind you'd see someone in whilst putting their bins out. Sorry.

MynameisnotJohn · 09/05/2026 09:52

It’s fine. My friend would wear something like this to a wedding. In fact she did. Sober and classic and appropriate and covers flabby arms. Not beautiful though.

Malinia · 09/05/2026 09:56

I like it, but I would shorten it and probably alter the sleeves as well.

whattheysay · 09/05/2026 11:09

The sleeves are very big and voluminous it would look better as a sleeveless

BaronessBomburst · 09/05/2026 11:36

I love it. I would wear it with strappy sandals, pin up my hair, grab a tiny clutch, and go out for a night in Madrid.
I am however the wrong shape for Zara and live nowhere near Madrid.

ToadRage · 09/05/2026 11:48

Oh, how disappointing. I thought it was hoping it would be amazing but it's just a bog-standard and shapeless black dress. It's not even nice!

SilenceInside · 09/05/2026 11:58

It's navy not black. I like it, and would probably wear it if it was available in black. It's not a super expensive dress @OhBuggerandArse so if you like it and can afford it, why not order it and try it on, just for fun. It's free to return it to a Zara shop.

Of course it's negotiable. Half the thread is people coming on to say they don't like it, and OP is not contradicting them.

It's not laying down the law to simply ... use an adjective.
