Which colour jeans are ‘in fashion’?

I’m closer to 50 than I would like and going out this weekend. I’ve bought some wide leg high waisted jeans from M&S but got the light blue. A friend said the lighter is better and more in style at the moment. The darker blue looked not quite right somehow but I feel so odd wearing the light blue. Reminded me of the white wash jeans in the 80s.

so are lighter jeans in fashion?

I’m 73 and have never been a member of the fashion police. My jeans are white, blue, khaki, magenta and several pairs of denim florals. Including a pair with sequins.
Light blue is a lovely Summer colour. As long as you are comfortable, colour doesn’t matter. Have a great weekend. 😁

Silverbirchleaf · 29/04/2026 01:28

Light blue (and wider leg) are definitely more fashionable at the moment.

Devilsmommy · 29/04/2026 02:29

Yeah I wear wide leg jeans all the time and the lighter blue are the most popular colour at the moment.

Overtheatlantic · 29/04/2026 02:51

Ah well. I just bought a pair of indigo bootcut. Not fashionable but they fit perfectly.

Iriseyes · 29/04/2026 05:46

I am subliminally influenced by fashion and the other day I suddenly thought it would be great to get a pair of light pink jeans. Pink!! I would never knowingly choose that colour so I can only think it's because I've been influenced by what I've seen other ppl wear /magazines etc.

painthisbathroom · 29/04/2026 06:13

I agree with the pale pink

Floisme · 29/04/2026 08:52

Mostly pale colours where I am but I still go for darker blue myself (and I'm the fashion police).

bumptybum · 29/04/2026 09:02

The problem is when people comment on this section you don’t know what they look like🤣
You’re better off looking at style guides online and look at pictures in style website websites and Instagram content creators who are up-to-date then getting it off random people that you can’t see

Because we know what the world looks like out there and there are plenty of people who think they’re have style or think they’re in fashion And they’re so late to a trend that they are telling you things that are not actually fashionably correct.

look at something like this, perhaps:

Nothing wrong with being near or even over 50 😁 But I do understand the occasional fashion confusion at any age, especially since everything seems to be in for 5 minutes at the moment.
I like lighter jeans, and I love the 80s.
Also very tickled at the idea of @Floisme as the Fashion Police.

Caravanholiday · 29/04/2026 09:26

I like both ! I tend to wear lighter in spring/summer and darker in winter

willowstar · 29/04/2026 09:37

I wear all colours depending on what I am wearing them with. Last night I wore pale flares with a deep red one shoulder top and back converse. The day before I wore a deep indigo pair of bootcuts with a pale floral shirt and pink Adidas. So I just create an outfit based on either the jeans I fancy wearing or the top or shoes. Sorry not much help but I am not sure it really matters all that much. I march to the beat of my own drum but also see lots of people wearing all sorts so whatever you wear should be fine.

BarbiesDreamHome · 29/04/2026 10:39

My personal rule is

  • pale bottoms need a paler top
  • dark bottoms need a darker top

Did you pair the dark jeans with a lighter top?

But fully agree light colour jeans for summer

80smonster · 29/04/2026 11:08

Pale blue denim 90s straight leg. Wear them slightly oversize.

This. Always a good strategy. I have light and dark denim options for jeans, jackets...even dungarees!
Just stay away from ripped or distressed jeans, they are pretty naff!

(although I think Id probably be arrested by the fashion police for having jeans in multiple odd colours, animal print, patterned!).😄

VictoriaAshe · 30/04/2026 08:29

You can’t go wrong with the classics. Light blue, sage green or stone are all easy to match colour choices for cotton trousers for summer.

A poster above suggested pink. I have a lovely pair of pleated pink linen trousers; if I wear them I’m careful to ensure the rest of my outfit looks grown up and put together.

OvernightBloats · 30/04/2026 08:35

Light blue jeans have been on trend for a while but I am seeing more people wearing dark indigo jeans out and about.

We are lucky to live in a time where there is such a wide variety to choose from. Just choose the colour that suits you the most. I avoid light blue jeans because they make my legs look more chunky, dark blue is my choice!

Same and I just bought a pale blue denim pair and have a pink pair on my list 🤣

Divebar2021 · 30/04/2026 09:14

I have a couple of pairs of dark and a couple of mid but I don’t have light ( I have white). I did find a pair of lighter Cos jeans in a charity shop which fit me perfectly but are not a shade I love. There’s something off about them so I might sell them on. Light blue is definitely better than the summer but I’m certainly not getting rid of the dark ones.

Charlenedickens · 30/04/2026 09:20

Indigo is very current for a smarter look, the fashion magazines and houses are full of them. Lighter blue is current for a more casual look.

Bbbbboooooooiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnggggggggg · 30/04/2026 09:36

I just go with what suits my shape. Light jeans seem to make me look bigger. I thought that cigarette jeans were back?

DeftGoldHedgehog · 30/04/2026 09:48

I find the light coloured ones pretty easy to wear for summer, you don't want to heavy a denim anyway when it's warmer.

I am wearing these a lot but also have a dark indigo pair the same cut, and am after a mid blue pair as well when they come back into stock in a 10R!

Now I'm after some chinos which fit like this.

Same! Better to be in style than in fashion!

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 30/04/2026 10:13

@pinkyponkyplink I’m much older than you and yes, for wide jeans and summer. Light blue is being put with lots of creamy yellow this summer. The dark wash is great but nothing wrong with a light wash right now.

pinkyponkyplink · 30/04/2026 22:30

Do wide leg light blue jeans look ok with a tum? I’m a size 12/14 and I feel they do nothing for my tummy

So in London at lot at the moment and wide leg indigo not too wide a leg with elasticated waist for those 45 plus is so much the spring thing that it's almost a uniform. However, it's coming in summer so the paler jeans will be out soon.
