What to wear to hip London wedding?

We've been invited to my niece's hip London wedding in July and I'm totally stumped on what to wear - dress code is smart summer and there is some walking between venues so teetering heels out (although not sure anyone wears these now?) and their friends are all hip media types and my SIL very glamourous!

I'm 5ft 6 currently 12/14 top and 14/16 bottom but on WLI so hoping I'll be a size smaller by then! I have an OK waist and upper body but heavy bum, hips and thighs and tend to wear waisted dresses & skirts with shirts or fine knit jumpers. Not a fan of floaty tea dresses or very formal 'Hobbs style' wedding outfits. I shop mainly on Vinted but would buy new for the right thing and brands I like including All Saints, Cos, Mint Velvet, Nobody's Child, Zara, American Vintage plus various Scandi brands.

Any ideas?

I would wear this COS suit with a black camisole top and a small heel to elongate my legs (people do wear heels to weddings in London just not ridiculous ones). I tried it on in the store the other day and loved it but don't have an occasion to wear it to...

Budget?

Klements. I find the word "hip" really annoying (reminds me of of Tony Parsons and Julie Burchill cringemakingly being "hip young gunslingers" at the NME and travel guides over use it) but if any brand can claim "hipness" it can.

Me too! Stunning!

Definitely no high heels or a jumpsuit.
Something more up to date, with unusual flat shoes. Either trousers or a dress with an interesting design.
I like Klements and Nobody's Child.

I always loved the shorts and suit jacket Kate Moss once wore to a wedding... with fedora hat.

thedevilinablackdress · 17/04/2026 12:08

Klements has just gone on my wish list 😍

A midi skirt is the dressy option this Summer. There are loads of options on Vinted. You could dress up with a white wrap shirt or go lower let with a silk t shirt in the same colour.

Look at the Chanel catwalk for inspiration.

Wear silk or satin ballet flats or sling back flats - dressy but easy to walk in.

I’m going to a media event next week and wearing the above described outfit (including the Vinted purchase).

By wearing a skirt you have more options for shape and style of top and bottom of your outfit.

Wait until closer to buy clothes - my DH is on WLI and his shape keeps changing.

let us know what you end up wearing, good luck.

I live in London and would love an invite to a hip local wedding!

I would wear a plain top, tulle skirt and wonderful shoes.

Like this!

This doesn’t shout “smart summer” or hip to me at all.

it’s cute for a day out but not a wedding where people are likely to be dressed up.

I saw an influencer wearing this really dressed up, black sandals with gold coloured metalware, lots of gold plated jewellery, a woven bag with a silk scarf with red in it tied to it. Loved the look! https://www.zara.com/uk/en/nylon-midi-dress-with-ties-p04772308.html?v1=500301019&v2=2420884

Beautiful dress. however that model looks like a plague victim

😂😂
I think they try to make the images look "edgy" but I usually just end up feeling sorry for the models!

Wow so much to think about & yes, probably a bit early to buy considering potential size change but good to think about it now.

I’m liking the Midi skirt suggestion with flats and I’ve got a gorgeous white wrap shirt that would work well with a strong colour/print. The Cos linen wide leg trouser suit is gorgeous and love the colour but feel that might be a bit fabric heavy on my frame and I also like the trouser/waist coat combo but might have to see how my arms look first. And don’t worry, polka dot jumpsuit will NOT get anywhere near me!

I am also going to a hip wedding this year in South Korea, Dbro is getting married to Korean SIL. I am way out of my depth 😂As a Cos lover I have my eye on this jumpsuit I wouldn't normally wear a jumpsuit but think this is lovely.

I would like at:
Rixo
Queens of Archive
Stine goya
essential Antwerp
stella nova - specifically their embroidered dresses

Alwayswonderedwhy · 17/04/2026 17:07

What's your usual style? I'd look at dresses from Marni, Farm Rio, Stella Jean etc.
I think the main thing is to wear what you're comfortable in though, it sounds like it's not your usual crowd which doesn't mean you have to alter the way you dress.

https://www.thehippieshake.co.uk/products/zodiac-blue-velvet-embroidered-jacket.This rather gorgeous a plain blouse worn under and a swisht skirt,I like the tuille skirts in a strong colour, or a simple linen shift dress

The photo ai saw was pf,a girl wearing a longxred and black silk dress that hung off her like a wet dish cloth and wearing what can only be described as black mopheads for shoes. I clicked back on tge page and saw a rather nice fitted dress. What's going on lol
