Prom dress - where to buy

ikeepforgetting · 21/03/2026 09:51

Getting ready for prom (far more important than GCSEs!) and of course EVERYONE has their dress already except DD. She is looking at websites like Baby Boo (I think) and al the dresses look AI generated to me. Any suggestions for good quality dress sites? Or shops in and around West/SW London?

Hello,
this site is good (we are getting bridesmaids dresses from here and my niece is also getting a prom dress)
azazie.com

Not sure why the web link isn’t coming as a link

What’s your budget? Any shops locally to go and try a few things on and get an idea of style and colour.

PrincessOfPreschool · 21/03/2026 13:32

We just one from Asos but just get her to ask friends for local places. If you want to go and get ideas from a whole life of shops there's a street in Finsbury Park (?) where we went last year. Liked a few but they weren't cheap. Got something totally student and third of the price from Asos, ordered about 5 dresses to try and ended up with the wild card!

DD found a lovely one on Vinted, if you don’t mind second hand. It was in perfect condition.

RodeoClown · 21/03/2026 13:35

My dd also got hers from asos.

Galliano · 21/03/2026 13:40

My DD age 16 got hers from asos too. We spent more on bag, shoes etc that she got reuse of. Age 24 and a veteran of many more events and dresses she buys them off vinted now and sticks them back on there afterwards.

If you do an image search you will find the Baby Boo dresses on Amazon, Temu and Shein. I found exactly the same dress that my daughter was looking at on BabyBoo on Amazon for a third of the price.

We got a made to measure one from Stacee's. I was worried in case it didn't fit because it wouldn't be returnable. Luckily it fit perfectly and was nice quality. I'd buy from them again.

Take a trip to Fonthill road in Finsbury park. I was sceptical but DD came out with a beautiful dress for a lot less than I thought.

ikeepforgetting · 22/03/2026 00:07

Thanks everyone, great tips - especially about Baby Boo dresses, I had a feeling. That street in Finsbury Park sounds amazing too will see if she will take a trip up.

We got ours from Azazie. £90 and it looks great. Had to pay for alterations as it was a little long on my daughter and she is incredibly slim. Very happy with it

BewleyBear · 22/03/2026 00:14

We got a gorgeous Stacees dress from vinted. Perfect condition and very good quality. We will sell it again after.

BastardtheCat · 22/03/2026 07:49

Lots on Vinted!
I was looking this morning. Some brand new and would need shortening, but spotted a £80 evening dress for £15

Passthecake30 · 22/03/2026 07:52

We recently went to Fonthill road. Dd isn’t really a keen shopper so wasn’t up for multiple shops with multiple try ons. We dismissed the first shop as the price range was £350-£500, and brought in the next, where the price range was £120-£180.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 22/03/2026 08:02

My three dds wore, variously, a Monsoon dress (sale £80), Topshop jump suit (sale £23), 1950s cocktail dress (bought by me as a student, and never worn - £3), and a dress from Liberty's (sale £78). They all used the same couple of clutch bags, and DD1 and DD3 shared shoes (Monsoon and New Look). DD2 wouldn’t wear heels so bought cheapo silver flip-flops from Primark.

Keep an open mind.

If you have a Monsoon outlet shop nearby, btw, they have lovely clutch bags which are normally 70% off.

Fonthill Road in Finsbury Park has an excellent choice of Prom dresses.

MagicMarkers · 22/03/2026 15:09

DD got a very nice one from a Trinity Hospice charity shop for £25. She was looking on Vinted for months, but didn't find anything that wasn't more than she wanted to spend.

ikeepforgetting · 23/03/2026 09:35

@TheLongRider Did an image search and found the babyboo one she was looking at on Amazon for £24.99 - now she is angry with me for ruining it!

I got DD's from TKMaxx. I'm very lucky that she costs everything in books so would rather have a cheaper dress and the extra I would have spent in books.

That's so funny, you'd think she'd be grateful!

Funkylights · 24/03/2026 19:50

im using these ideas too. Loads I know are spending £500 which is insane when they won’t wear it again

This place - Peppermayo - is very popular amongst my daughter’s friends for prom dress buying!
