Waterproof Raincoat with hood - but cute!

Most of my raincoats have been on the more utilitarian design, or at least that is how I remember them. I need a new one and would love stylish but functional, if it’s even possible, so waterproof or water repellent and a hood.
Price - prob not over£150 ish
anyone bought a nice new raincoat for spring? Thanks!

perhaps this Tog24 one https://www.tog24.com/products/alva-womens-waterproof-jacket-taupe, and currently within budget

malovitt · 11/03/2026 21:29

I have 3 different Protected Species coats, all fully waterproof and bought in their sales. I wouldn't wear anything else.

andrinaballerina · 11/03/2026 21:53

Perhaps not a cute colour but I recent bought this (in the sale!) and love it for not looking too functional! https://www.sweatybetty.com/shop/tops/jackets/motion-waterproof-cropped-parka-SB10228_NoriGreen.html?dwvar_SB10228_NoriGreen_color=norigreen&oldpid=SB10228_NoriGreen

I have two seasalt rain coats, one winter one lighter weight. Both completely waterproof and re-proofable. They have lots of different styles including plain/patterned short/long

I like this as it’s just a little different and less “just functional”

I also have the Lululemon Rain Rebel in a spring green (from a few years ago). It's a great all round jacket. Bought in my regular size, it has room for a cardigan or light fleece, so it can be used well into cooler weather.

I also really like their Always Effortless Classic Fit. I tried it on in the off-white and it is very chic, but I had to talk myself out of another spring jacket since I already have a few! This one is marked water resistant but not water proof; I guess it depends on how long you are outdoors in the rain.

As for going long or short, how do you wear your jackets? Dog walking in the countryside would need longer waterproof, but for commuting a shorter one will do, especially if you carry an umbrella as well.

I should have given more info in my op maybe - I do have a very functional and very waterproof coat for dog walks that fully covers me up but wins no fashion awards, this would be more for getting to work and weekends, but sometimes I have a few bags on the way home so no option for holding a brolly hence the need for a hood.I’m just after something that looks like a bit of thought has gone into the design and doesn’t completely break the bank!

I saw Protected Species recommended on here so got one. Brilliant raincoat and I would always go for it again. Really lovely fabric and soft to the touch. You can store the hood in the collar but I just leave it out so it doesn’t feel bulky.

I have a rainsisters one but bought it in their sale at around half price. Cute, have a hood, rainproof - but not cheap!

Ooh I’ve just checked out their coats and I now have a new obsession!! They are beautiful!! When do they hold sales? I need to keep an eye on this!

@JudyP I don't have it but I'm looking myself and have put it on my possibles list. I've found it cheaper on another site and in a different colour. There's a video and it looks waterproof/windproof without bulky warm liner. I'd say it looks spring shower weight.

This site looks to have a lot of lovely options which might suit the op.

My biggest issue with rain coats is that the hoods aren’t big enough if you have your hair up. And in the wet I don’t really want my hair down getting stuck to my face and caught in the zip. Aargh!

HarlotOTara · 12/03/2026 07:36

Stutterheim - I have one and love it

JudyP · 12/03/2026 09:48

So many great options that weren’t on my radar! Thx to everyone for all the ideas I really appreciate all the suggestions!

I got a genuinely waterproof coat from mandmdirect years ago. It is a tresspass one. I think I paid €25 for it (12 years ago!)

I hate going into that Rainsisters site because I love their stuff, would love to own a coat like that but I cant justify it as I only have trousers, I dont wear skirts and dresses

However, I have now seen on their site they do short jackets......

I have two Rainsisters coats and I adore them! I decided early on that they're too beautiful to wear just with dresses and skirts (ie never!) so I wear mine with jeans and trainers and always get compliments.

ALittleDropOfRain · 12/03/2026 15:48

Lazy Jacks have some cool patterns on their raincoats and the hood is just the right size to keep the rain off your face.

Long and short styles

The Matilda raincoat by Damson Madder
https://damsonmadder.com/products/matilda-raincoat-gingham
Not currently in stock here, but some other places sell it.

It's oversized, so might need to size down.

I have this one and it’s fabulous. One of my favourite purchases

The Finisterre Stormbird raincoat and jacket are properly waterproof and look good too (I think so anyway!) 🌧️

JudyP · 13/03/2026 21:56

Love this one - might try it on if I can find it in store
