Bra with no metal fastenings?

ayazgoddammetal · 03/03/2026 19:53

I have a skin allergy to metal. Since I went into peri the metal fastening loops on the bra straps have been giving me a rash. Once my skin has become sensitised to metal like this in a place on my body it rarely recovers to a point where metal can be worn in that place again.

Ive been looking for an alternative, there are lots of bras which look like they wouldn't include metal but they still include these little fastenings. I also need something which is supportive and uplifting - sagging due to bloody peri is in full swing (or dangle would be more accurate).

I've added a pic to show what I mean. Any suggestions?

I love molke bras. I have massive (old) boobs and they are really comfy and provide great support.
they’re a bit of a PITA to get on and off but you get used to it.

Can you paint the metal with clear nail varnish and make a barrier?
I am sure I have read about this somewhere?

Good idea but it doesn't work (for me anyway). I've tried wrapping them in fabric or plasters bit that doesn't work either, not sure why... thank you though ☺️

These are really comfortable, I wear mine all the time ie, not as a sports bra.

Allergy Friendly – Juliemay Lingerie UK

Women's – tagged "Bras" – Cottonique - Allergy-free Apparel but they're not in the UK

Do the hooks actually touch the skin when you use the loops for the shortest setting? I have had metal contact dermatitis since my teenage years, I don't wear any jewellery and need to cover up the back of buttons in jeans for example but bras don't cause a problem as long as I fasten them on the tightest setting. The the bit of fabric that overhangs helps keep the metal bits off the skin.

I was going to suggest the nail varnish trick. I see that doesn’t work for you however.

oddballs do metal free bras. if you can cope with pulling them over your head which I personally cannot stand.

Look at Boody

NamingNoNames · 04/03/2026 09:13

You could remove the hook and eye part and replace it with non-metallic fasteners.

ayazgoddammetal · 04/03/2026 11:30

Thanks everyone, some good ideas to try.

its not the hook and eye bits that are the problem, although even if they were I don't think I have the sewing skill to be able to replace them without something pinging off at an inopportune moment! It's the small round connectors at the bottom of the strap which connect it to the band. My pic has been approved now so hopefully that makes sense.

there seem to be quite a few bras which don't have wires but still have these bits in metal. They often used to be plastic.

I'd definitely try one of the original molkes.

Any pull on type bra/ crop top style would avoid metal fastenings, and I think Molke give the best support and shape out of any pull-on bra I've tried, as they give decents seperation as well as lift.
You can get them cheaper on vinted, but if you buy direct from them they are pretty good with helping you get the right size and returns etc.

I did wonder about the rings, and if replacing the hooks and eyes would be strong enough.

If you search you'll get a list of non-wired bras, but they are unlikely to be metal free. I guess you want nickel free bras.

I like Sloggi Zero Feel but they may not be supportive enough.

Edited

I’ve got one that doesn’t have any fasteners at all - it goes over your head.

cannaethink · 04/03/2026 13:57

Alternatively you could unpick the seams and replace with plastic bits. You can buy them on Amazon. Then sew it back up.

Mine does too but has metal strap length adjusters.

raspberets · 04/03/2026 14:24

Bralette, seamless.

They sell them on Amazon, 2 pair pack.

NamingNoNames · 04/03/2026 14:46

I'm wearing a bra with plastic strap adjusters but metal hooks and eyes right now but it was from BHS.

istolethetalisker · 05/03/2026 08:29

What about front fastening bras?

Beautyfox · 05/03/2026 08:30

My daughter is irritated by metal in bras too and loves these. They are quite supportive and very comfortable https://www.modibodi.co.uk/products/sculpted-y-back-crop-teale-blue

she also wears Calvin klein crop tops, these are less supportive but still comfortable.
