Bra with no metal fastenings?

ayazgoddammetal · 03/03/2026 19:53

I have a skin allergy to metal. Since I went into peri the metal fastening loops on the bra straps have been giving me a rash. Once my skin has become sensitised to metal like this in a place on my body it rarely recovers to a point where metal can be worn in that place again.

Ive been looking for an alternative, there are lots of bras which look like they wouldn't include metal but they still include these little fastenings. I also need something which is supportive and uplifting - sagging due to bloody peri is in full swing (or dangle would be more accurate).

I've added a pic to show what I mean. Any suggestions?

I've got both sloggi and big bloomers company. I find the big bloomers more supportive. Wearing it now! No fastening at all.

This is such a helpful thread, thank you so much everyone for the suggestions. I really like the look of the Sainsbury's ones - I like something with a bit of shape as everything is heading south rapidly here 🤣

But I'm going to try a few of these different ones out and will come back and update - in case anyone else finds themselves in the same situation in the future. It's good to see there are traditional bra type ones as well, might be useful if I need to wear something more structured or formal.

front fastening might be ok @istolethetaliskerbut the connecting round metal loops at the back (and probably the bits which allow for adjusting the straps up and down which are also metal) are the bits causing the problems at the moment.

thanks everyone!

I'm wearing George at Asda nursing bra at the moment and all the clips (except the bits to do it up) are plastic rather than metal. So worth looking there.

ETA DH did give me a strange look as I was checking this while sat in the kitchen feeding the baby...

Once I’ve put a bra on I rarely readjust the straps. Could you not just cut the straps, remove the metal bits and sew them back to the right length for you?

I was thinking something like this https://www.next.co.uk/style/st288276/565608 - with a supportive mesh back, no metal adjustable bit - I've found mesh backs bras easier to find if with front fastening bras in the past.

I hope you can find something you like!

That's a really good idea - maybe I could do that!

I love Molke bras - they give a lot more shape and support than they look like they would.
There are usually quite a few on Vinted if you want to try one out, without spending on a brand new one.

I too have a nickel allergy on clothing and jewellery, it’s hard work. I used to paint any surface that touched my skin with clear nail polish, but ultimately the nail polish wears off or gets washed off, and then the migraines and rashes start up again. I wear metal free sports bras mainly, sadly, so no suggestions to be made.

on another random note, when shops say ‘nickel free’, it is not always true. The percentage of nickel is extremely low, but not 0%, and so those of us with a nickel allergy will still experience side effects.

I have non wire bras from panache and curvy Kate where all connectors appear to be plastic.

I just checked the bra I was wearing yesterday, it's M&S own brand, a few years old, and the strap loops aren't metal, they are the same colour as the bra and seem like strong plastic. I just hit one of them with my metal tweezers and the sound was not like metal on metal. Maybe worth checking out M&S.

I like Sloggi Zero Feel but they may not be supportive enough.

Im here to second this. Really comfy but if you have plenty in the cup then you might have to get a size which ends up too loose on the back.

I am loving the commitment to the cause here 😂

I did used to get them from M&S as they always used to be plastic, but they seem to have switched over to metal as the ones I have now are M&S ones.

I'm going to order a bit of a selection and compare which give good support and shape. I have a couple of the Sainsbury's ones on the way and will do some serious online work later on.

thank you so much for all the help on this thread ☺️

@ayazgoddammetal

I needed bras without metal content because as a cancer patient I regularly had scans where no metal at all can be worn. Although the frequency of the scans is now far less, I cannot face going back to wearing my pretty lacy bras, I find them so uncomfortable. The best I found, with the most flattering cut, are cheap and cheerful ones from Primark that have no fastenings and the straps aren't adjustable. They have very slight padding that can be removed.

That said, I have a very small boobs so it all depends on how much support you need. I have looked and tried other, much more expensive brands but they are much higher cut.

Best of luck!
