Do any of you remember me needing help to find a dress for the Summer Ball?

Do any of you remember my thread when I was panicking because I had nothing to wear for a summer ball? Well I finally managed to find something at the weekend - not the original dress I liked - I did try that on but preferred the one below. Its a military ball so quite formal.

Its this dress in the deep red colour:

Now i need to find shoes - I want black satin ones with a bit of a heel, but only a small one - dress needs lifting a little but i am quite tall so dont want to wear very high heels. Can anyone help me find a nice pair?

That's a beautiful dress. I had no idea people still wore such things nowadays. Obviously, I'm not invited to any good parties Enjoy the evening.

I'm worried its a bit too flouncy - it has netting underneath so sticks out a little and dont want to look like i have falled off the xmas tree!

I have some really useful back satin slingbacks I got from Debenhams a few years ago - I wear them lots with posh frocks.

triffictits · 16/06/2008 20:59

it has to be full length cod - no choice.

Gorgeous, gorgeous gorgeous dress.

I'm wearing a dark red dress (not as nice though!!) to a ball tomorrow night, and wearing some very comfy shoes from M&S! Wedge mule sandals with a red patent band with a diamante buckle. They look evening enough poking out from under the dress, and will be comfy all night. About 1 -1.5 inch wedge. I think they did them in black too.

Cod, they probably won't shout, but as a fomer member of the military (and on the Officers' Mess Committee), I was told to go and ask three different ladies to go home and change at one Ball.

The SHAME of it...!

tbh it doesn't really matter....but it is part of a tradition, which is part and parcel of things to do with the military.

If you accept an invite to a military function, then you accept that (and the cheap food and subsidized drink that comes from the Mess members as part of the package )

If its not your cup of tea then don't go...simple really!

triffic, glad you found one! it's lovely .
I have been dieting so that I can wear one of my already got gowns. I'm going to a 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday and wearing long there. Think it might be bright red satin too. It is to the ankles and am wearing gorgeous gold/diamante grecian style sandals/bag/wrap. Then it's the Naval ball in August...got to keep the weight off to wear a wardrobed gown for that too.

I got some lovely comfy black satin, sling back, closed front and not too high shoes from Clarks before now, so might be worth a looksee?
