Cowgirl theme hen party. This is my starting point......

OK so I have a hen coming up in a few weeks. The theme is 'Cowgirls' a few of the other hens have bought 'proper' outfits off Shein etc. I don't want to. I want to either use what is in my wardrobe or at least buy things I will wear again. I was also thinking maybe a suede brown skirt + white shirt I would need to buy.

Something like this with a big belt buckle. Completely opaque black tights with tummy control. And I already have cowboy ankle boots in a brown suede.

You need hats more than anything to make the outfit.

EvangelineTheNightStar · 14/02/2026 16:29

That your brown boots and black tights fine…. But you must wear this hat as penance for a normal person looking out it…..

JuvenileBigfoot · 14/02/2026 16:30

No to the black tights! Get skin colour or those fleecy leggings that look like tights if you don't want bare legs.
If its warm enough for bare legs but you're not confident, body makeup works wonders (can sweat off though!)
Also I'd tuck that shirt in rather than the black underneath and add a nice big belt. And a hat!

The plaits are cute too.

It has flashing led lights…

@MissConductUS @EvangelineTheNightStar should have said we are getting matching pink hats, neck scarves and glasses I think.

@JuvenileBigfoot thank you 🤗I plait my hair on Saturdays when I'm doing the house work so it doesn't keep falling in my face. I will most likely curl my hair on the day

If they have outfits off shein you are going to look very diff. Sorry but the shirt is not great.

Mummylove2026 · 17/02/2026 07:09

Tuck the shirt in rather than the black top underneath. I don’t think black tights either, get skin colour if you need them

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 17/02/2026 07:20

Yes skin coloured tights.

DinoLil · 17/02/2026 07:30

I went to a cowboy fancy dress quiz night at a pub and won first prize for wearing something similar to this with a cheap cowboy hat. I know you don't want to buy anything, but I sold mine afterwards for than I paid for it. Have a great night!

Bars etc aren’t going to let you in wearing this - you’ve got to strike the balance of normal enough clothes to get in places but clearly on theme.

I agree with PP that it would look much better if you just tucked the shirt in directly rather than the black shirt showing through - makes it look like it doesn’t fit well/is too tight when I don’t think that’s actually the case at all.

ForFunGoose · 17/02/2026 09:58

I think this is very busy and that’s without the boots and hat. You need to tone it down imo. Do You have nice denim jeans and a denim shirt? I would wear double denim and then the boots and hat will pop.

OceanSafari · 17/02/2026 10:03

With a hat it will be great! Agree about the flesh coloured tights, and while I like the tied shirt, maybe a cami in a colour closer to shirt would be better than black, potentially even white? I love that you aren't wasting resources on throw away dress up, have a fab time!

FeistyFrankie · 17/02/2026 10:08

The denim skirt isn't working at all. Can you swap for a pair of bootcut jeans instead? I'd also untie the shirt and just wear it loose and unbuttoned, with your black cami underneath more on show. Will look way more stylish!

FeistyFrankie · 17/02/2026 10:09

Then if you add a pair of cowboy boots and hat, it will look great and really well put together

While that is very fun looking I am not the bride and I in no way want to try and 'up stage' / be any way taking from her shine on the day.

I have scrapped the skirt/ shirt look altogether

I found a plain brown dress in the wardrobe. I will have a hat similar to the pic above. Getting a belt + some layered necklaces. I have a denim jacket

I don't think all of the others are getting 'proper' outfits. Just some of them.

Those saying skin colour tights, any recommendations on where to get ones that are thick/ warm but not nora batty?

They have lots of variations and a cowboy hat or fringed waistcoat?

Agree - great advice

winterwarmer8274 · 17/02/2026 10:44

The double demin is good! If you have it, I would try that too.

A pink hat would have not looked good with the first outfit (and the black t-shirt underneath was awful - sorry to be harsh).

Your second outfit is better

foreversunshine · 17/02/2026 10:50

I think the brown dress is worse than the denim skirt/shirt combo - I don't see how it's cowboy themed at all.

I have a cowboy themed hen do in a few weeks (I don't think you're coming to mine though haha). One of the party is just wearing a pair of Levi jeans, white t-shirt, boots and a hat. Sorted. I specifically chose my theme because it required very little effort and I didn't want people to splurge on tat.

However, I do think it's important that you look and feel nice on the night, and I don't think that's the case with either of the options you've uploaded. If you felt good in them, you wouldn't be on here asking for opinions.

It might be, the one I am going to is big. Is yours in London?

The brown dress with a cow boy hat/ a belt, then layed necklaces is what I was thinking and a denim jacket
