Cowgirl theme hen party. This is my starting point......

OK so I have a hen coming up in a few weeks. The theme is 'Cowgirls' a few of the other hens have bought 'proper' outfits off Shein etc. I don't want to. I want to either use what is in my wardrobe or at least buy things I will wear again. I was also thinking maybe a suede brown skirt + white shirt I would need to buy.

Something like this with a big belt buckle. Completely opaque black tights with tummy control. And I already have cowboy ankle boots in a brown suede.

It might be, the one I am going to is big. Is yours in London?

The brown dress with a cow boy hat/ a belt, then layed necklaces is what I was thinking and a denim jacket

Nope, mine is in sunny Glasgow. Hope you have a great time!

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 17/02/2026 11:12

The brown dress looks nice @yeehawhens
And as you say, you will have the cowboy hat like the other hens.

LadyCrustybread · 17/02/2026 11:16

Jeans, shirt, boots and a cowboy hat. Mostly try not to care too much - you won’t have fun if you’re self conscious.

Mulledjuice · 17/02/2026 11:21

If you're going to wear the brown dress then get brown tights.

holycrapballs · 17/02/2026 11:25

I’d go for the brown dress and see if you can get a denim waistcoat maybe? Flesh tights from Snag.

Brown suede bag if you have one. I got a really cheap fringed one in new look when I dressed as Jessie from Toy Story.

yeehawhens · 17/02/2026 10:27

I have scrapped the skirt/ shirt look altogether

I found a plain brown dress in the wardrobe. I will have a hat similar to the pic above. Getting a belt + some layered necklaces. I have a denim jacket

I don't think all of the others are getting 'proper' outfits. Just some of them.

Those saying skin colour tights, any recommendations on where to get ones that are thick/ warm but not nora batty?

I like that - very Ree Drummond (ranch dweller!).

Thanks, had to google her.

The funny this is DH is a cattle farmer and I often help him so I am a 'cow girl' just not the sort of outfits they were thinking 😂

definitely jeans. how can you ride a horse in that skirt??

Babybirdmum · 17/02/2026 20:04

I’ve seen some of these parties on the only way is Essex and on hen dos and generally people just wear a normal night out dress with cowboy boots a hat and maybe a tassel suede bag. If I wear you I’d dress for a simple night out and just add those accessories

For anyone interested this is what I have ended up with!

I wanted a denim dress anyway and have already worn it a few times.

Boots I will also wear again.
Not so sure on the jacket or belt.

I have thick'ish suntan tights and bike shorts for under the dress.
I'm going to curl my hair with a heatless curler

The black dress is then for the evening -

  1. how would you style your hair? I was thinking some form of up. With either a French pin or I bought some of those hair loop 'topsy tail' things
  2. I have long plain fake diamond earrings on and a pearl bracelet. I wasn't going to add any more jewellery

I am putting in a lot of thought for a hen weekend. BUT I was either pregnant or breastfeeding from end of 2020 to Christmas 2025 (only 2 DC but several miscarriages). I am trying to 're find' my style with my new body.

Your denim dress is cute, add a hat and a sheriffs badge and you're good to go. You look great, you've got fabulous legs and a waist. Personally I think the black dress looks less flattering. You've got a great shape and it's lost in that dress.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 15/04/2026 12:29

Ankle boots and hat and you will be fab to go!

BaronessBomburst · 15/04/2026 12:48

I like the dress and it looks perfect with the jacket.

Lurkingandlearning · 15/04/2026 12:53

I agree with @ForFunGoose

The jewellery isn’t very cowgirl- I wouldn’t wear it. I’d also do plaits as that’s very cowgirl. Love the dress and boots!

I didn't think there was anything wrong with your original idea, including the black tights. And I applaud you for not buying one off crap from Shein.

That second outfit is more medieval peasant than cowboy.

owlpassport · 15/04/2026 18:33

Style your hair any way you like, just remember you're wearing a cowboy hat so do something you can fix between the day and the dinner. I'm useless at hair, so trying to sort an up-do under pressure would be awful.

I like the black dress actually, but I don't think the heels with it are doing you any favours. Something black and pointed would be better IMO, flats or heels. I'd probably go with a more delicate bracelet too, the accessories are all a bit chunky.

evilharpy · 15/04/2026 20:10

I really like that first dress on you. Wonder if you could add a little bandana somehow. Maybe use one to tie your hair into a ponytail, and curl the ponytail?

Edit - forgot about the cowboy hat so no ponytail, duh!

BusterGonad · 16/04/2026 06:11

The denim dress is lovey. It really suits you.

JellyMouldJnr · 16/04/2026 06:55

You look great, I love the denim dress!
