Make up at home.

I just wondered how many of you wear makeup if you are just at home for the day. I spend most of my days going to the gym, walking the dog and being at home on my own and I never think to apply any make up but am just thinking I need to take more pride in myself!

Lipstick and a spray of perfume every day

I think it's really quite sad when women feel they need to wear make up just to sit around the house or pop to the shops.

Gosh don't feel sad for me - I do exactly what I want to do. Always lipstick and perfume, often more.

I am amazed that you feel sad about a women doing exactly what they want - perhaps you don't have that freedom????🙄

I wear makeup for work that makes about 10 minutes and its an enjoyable part of my morning routine. One of the reasons I left a remote job for hybrid was that I missed picking a nice outfit and doing my makeup.

I'd wear make up on a day of shopping in the city centre but not just for food shopping in the supermarket.

For a restaurant, night out or theatre etc I'd allow more time maybe 30 mins and do a more glam look to enjoy some of the makeup products I use less often. This is definitely big positive of socialising for me and can get me in the mood for going out when I'd rather stay in!

I don't feel the need for any makeup just staying in but saying that, if had a free day at home then I might play around with makeup to entertain myself. Does that count?
After housework I'd either be finding something useful to do like clear out a cupboard or relaxing with a book, watch TV, doing my nails/make-up.

RampantIvy · 08/02/2026 07:20

I wear make up for going out and going to work, but a tube of tinted moituriser last me for years because I'm only in the office once a week and I don't go out very often.

I'm lucky that I have dark eyebrows and dark eyelashes as I have really dry eyes and can't wear eye make up at all. Luckily I have decent skin as well.

I wear it every day regardless of what I'm doing unless I'm really ill & am not getting out of bed.

Same here.

I wear makeup because I like it, and not for anyone else, so I wear it even if I'm staying home by myself and won't see anyone else at all.

The only time I leave it is if I'm feeling really unwell, staying in hospital, or going swimming ( and then I'd put in on after swimming anyway)

KatharinaRosalie · 08/02/2026 07:51

No, and nowadays I usually can't be bothered with make up if I'm just out and about either. But I do have my eyebrows and eyeliner tatooed on, and put a lot of effort into skincare, so don't necessarily need foundation.

Comtesse · 08/02/2026 07:59

I would never put make up on being at home by myself. If friends are coming over maybe.

MizzyDazzy · 08/02/2026 08:07

Never! I don’t wear it every day when I am doing something.

Stickytoffeetartt · 08/02/2026 08:10

Yes, always. But not much. I like to look alivr every time I glance in the mirror 😆

Typtoe · 08/02/2026 08:11

I love wearing makeup! I'd never judge anyone for not wearing makeup though. It's my morning routine, sets me up for the day as I drink my coffee and listen to a podcast and nobody bothers me. I find it mad that anyone would find it sad that as a grown woman, I choose to wear makeup. I also don't see how it's any different to getting your hair cut/coloured/styled or nails done. Makeup seems to be more harshly judged. But OP, only wear makeup if it's something you want to do and it makes you feel good.

dudsville · 08/02/2026 08:21

Whilst I do have make up free days, when I catch site of my rosacea on those days it does deflate my spirits a bit. I don't do full make up, but a bit of foundation just to even out my colour makes me feel better. I use El futurist, it's light and comfortable, has a 40 spf. But also my loungewear is pretty good and I'm proud of my hair, so when I'm just indoors at home I'm still feeling good about how I look.

TheChosenTwo · 08/02/2026 08:36

I don’t wear it anyway but I do take very good care of my skin - I find it quite therapeutic taking the time to do my skincare so I can see how people could enjoy putting makeup on too. I’m too clumsy and careless about it though, I’m a face toucher and I’d be smudging and smearing it and would end up looking like a sad clown so I don’t bother 😂

BuddhaAtSea · 08/02/2026 08:46

I don’t WFH, but on my days off I do put on make up. I’m not: OMG, I can’t take the dog out because I haven’t got any make up on, equally, my skin is very dry these days, I have to moisturise, while I’m there I might as well do the rest iyswim. I don’t do a lot, it’s quite minimal.
I didn’t bother this morning, just walked the dog for an hour and I’m about to go to the gym, I only put on some hialuronic acid and moisturiser.

I think it's really quite sad when women feel they need to wear make up just to sit around the house or pop to the shops.

I think it’s quite condescending that a woman describes other women’s day as ‘sitting around the house’

CloakedInGucci · 08/02/2026 09:20

If I’m staying home all day, and also don’t have work calls, then I won’t wear it. I don’t think it’s a case of not having pride in yourself!

If I go out, I will always wear at least a bit. I even wear a bit of under eye concealer/brightener stuff to the gym, without it I look a bit dead.

whattheysay · 08/02/2026 09:29

I don’t wear make up unless I’m going out somewhere properly like proper shopping or lunch, I don’t wear it to pop to the spar for some milk I can’t be bothered with it. I love make up and have a lot of it but I don’t feel the need to wear it everyday

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 08/02/2026 09:31

Not if I’m at home no

MammaTo · 08/02/2026 09:35

I have very red cheeks, so I usually use the green eborian and a little bit of mascara, sometimes some bronzer or blush.

notacooldad · 08/02/2026 11:46

I put sunblock on my face every day. I use a tinted moisturiser with spray in.
My eyelashes are tinted and I have had lip blush done so I dont need much to look loke ive made an effort.
Saying that I do like experimenting with new looks and will try them out at home.

CluelessAboutBiology · 08/02/2026 13:32

Like a PP, it’s every day unless I’m too ill to get out of bed. If it’s a weekend and I’m home all day, I might not wear foundation but I will always always always wear eyeshadow, eye liner and mascara. I don’t like the way I look without make up, I’m not an attractive person (I’m not fishing for compliments btw) but if I at least do my eyes, I feel I look less bad.

GameOfJones · 08/02/2026 17:12

I wear makeup every day unless I'm ill. It takes me about two minutes in the morning to put on some CC cream, mascara, blush and lip balm. Plus a spritz of perfume and brush my hair.

I don't do it for anyone else, I do it for me because it makes me feel good and like I've taken a couple of minutes in the morning just for myself.

Very, very occasionally I might choose to do a skincare day and layer up my serums and moisturisers or put on a face mask instead of putting on makeup but that would be when I'm home all day and not going to be leaving the house.....which is practically never!

ChewbaccasMrs · 08/02/2026 17:28

Not if I'm staying in then no but when I go out I always do. I like wearing nice clothes and having my hair nice so doing my make up just feels like the final piece of my outfit for me.

IwanttoWFH · 08/02/2026 17:46

I wear make up for work (in the office four days a week). I don’t on my WFH day or at the weekend unless we’re going “somewhere nice”. I won’t wear it to the cinema, the shops, the gym etc. I hate removing it (although I always do!)
I would still get “ready” though. I’d shower, do my hair, skin care, get dressed, perfume etc

gingercat02 · 08/02/2026 17:49

No way. I love a make up free day, I wear makeup for work or if I'm going out for the day or night. If I'm at home or popping out (for a top up shop or to see my mum, etc) no make up generally

landlordhell · 08/02/2026 17:50

I am never home all day.
