Make up at home.

I just wondered how many of you wear makeup if you are just at home for the day. I spend most of my days going to the gym, walking the dog and being at home on my own and I never think to apply any make up but am just thinking I need to take more pride in myself!

I wear make up for work (in the office four days a week). I don’t on my WFH day or at the weekend unless we’re going “somewhere nice”. I won’t wear it to the cinema, the shops, the gym etc. I hate removing it (although I always do!)
I would still get “ready” though. I’d shower, do my hair, skin care, get dressed, perfume etc

I do all of this ^^

@landlordhell I WFH 3 days a week. Unless I need to go out I don't leave the house on those days. DD is a student so no school run. Mind you, I never wore make up for the school run either.

livelovelough24 · 08/02/2026 18:29

Sundays are my only days when I am not running around, meeting people etc. I usually go for a walk alone or with one of my kids, and that is it. I usually do not wear make up that day, unless I am meeting someone else.

cinnamongirl123 · 08/02/2026 18:41

Why on earth would anyone wear makeup at home?!

Daimba · 09/02/2026 01:55

I wear makeup every day, it's just part of my routine after brushing teeth and washing my face. But I don't think I have any days when I don't leave the house - I have dcs who are at school 5 days a week then they do activities at weekends. I would wear make up to pop out for errands or do video calls. I think there were a couple of days last year when the dcs were ill off school and they couldn't go out and I didn't put any on then as I knew I couldn't leave the house.

I think it's really quite sad when women feel they need to wear make up just to sit around the house or pop to the shops.

I don't feel that I need to, but I just like to.
Every day, even if I'm not going out, it's part of my routine every morning.

Why on earth would anyone wear makeup at home?!

I wear it for myself, not for other people who are looking at me.

Lavenderandbrown · 09/02/2026 02:19

I wear makeup nearly every day as I am out of the house nearly every day..work or errands/ friends/ family on my non work days.

however occasionally I will have a shower do my hair put on clean pajamas or very comfy clothes and really intensely moisturize my face and leave it makeup free. I never ever skip skin care on my face and body.

it is amazing to me even now how mascara makes my eyes open up…more awake looking younger looking. It’s my take to a desert island makeup. I have a pretty deft hand with makeup application it doesn’t take long and it’s natural looking.

ZenZazie · 09/02/2026 02:50

Sometimes I do, just for myself. It’s like an extension of skincare/self care routine. It’d be a little highlighter, some mascara and sheer lipgloss.

Why on earth would anyone wear makeup at home?!

Because they want to.

soccermum10 · 09/02/2026 09:10

Not when I'm just at home. Like my skin to breathe

Sweetiedarling7 · 09/02/2026 09:25

If questioned, women often defend their decision to wear make up by saying they just like it and then go on to upbraid the questioner for trying to control or disrespect other women’s choices.

I think the thing is to ask ourselves is why we like it and would we still like it if
centuries of the patriarchy hadn’t ingrained in us that women need to look a certain way and our own faces bare aren’t good enough.

I acknowledge this but still like a bit of make up sometimes. Insight doesn’t always change behaviour.

As a favourite quote of mine says “I didn’t make the world, I just try to live in it”.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 09/02/2026 09:29

Yep, every day. I feel so much better with it on and it only takes a few minutes.

Bitsandbobs2 · 09/02/2026 09:35

minipie · 07/02/2026 22:38

Every day here including for gym or pop to the shops or even just staying home with family. I’ve had moderate acne since age 12 so 30+ years and I don’t really want anyone to be looking at it.

Ironically I’m very much a no make up personality, I don’t do much appearance wise otherwise but I’m still not comfortable showing my acne, hangover from teenage embarrassment I guess.

I'm the same with Acne. I use only light foundation or CC/BB cream but I look like different person with it.
So yes, + mascara and lip gloss.

Neurodiversemom · 09/02/2026 09:44

I don't wear until and unless I'm going out to meet someone. Not a chance I'd wear it at home.

HornyHornersPinkyWinky · 09/02/2026 09:47

I wear sunscreen everyday, whether I’m going out or not.

If I’m staying home I wouldn’t bother with make up - my usual routine only takes about 5 minutes though so it’s not a hassle.

As others have said, I quite enjoy putting it on, it’s part of my ‘getting ready for the day’ routine.

FairKoala · 09/02/2026 10:18

Never. I have tried to wear make up but it just looks horrible on me.

I have a few wrinkles and it accentuates them, even the stuff that says it does the opposite

@doonnaKay I’ve tried a lot. Been on roaccutane three times (most recently a year or two ago), it doesn’t seem to work that well for me, and I get MH side effects. Am currently on Dianette (quite effective but only about 70%) and a prescription benzoyl peroxide/retinoid mix, as well as salicylic acid. If there’s something new I’m missing please do say!

It's not inexpensive, but DD and I have both had Aviclear and had amazing results (although there can be some purging). It's been lovely to not have to take any meds with the various side effects and drying.

spring1979 · 09/02/2026 12:50

I wear a little everyday unless I’m poorly. But I always leave the house even just for a walk . I feel grubby if I don’t wear it,like would if I had my pyjamas on all day . It’s just part of my getting ready .

Not heard of this - I will have a look thanks

Why on earth would anyone wear makeup at home?

I like the ritual of doing it.

I'm set up for the day then, if in case I do go out I do t have to rush round getting ready.
I like make up.

Meteorite87 · 06/03/2026 10:00

I don't wear makeup very often and to date have never worn it at home.

I have rosacea that's treated with metronidazole gel. Having some particularly rubbish skin months and I'm tempted to put complexion makeup on at home occasionally so I don't have to see it.

CrikeyNumpty · 06/03/2026 10:10

I don’t, I used to, just a light dusting but not anymore. I am being less wasteful and penny pinching so I use less stuff (make up and the deeper cleanse to get it off) if I don’t bother.

Marwoodsbigbreak · 06/03/2026 11:33

God no! Only if I am going to be on a Teams meeting or socialising.

I wouldn’t wear make up just to doss around the house and the corner shop.

user593 · 06/03/2026 12:32

Generally no, although occasionally I’ll put on a tinted moisturiser and blush/bronzer. My favourites at the moment are Eborian CC and Rhode Pocket Blush in Tan Lines. This is a recent thing as my skin has massively improved recently. Previously wouldn’t go without at least concealer.

monkeymamma · 06/03/2026 23:47

I keep promising myself I’ll make the effort to wear it - I wfh so it would be easy to slip into never wearing it at all. I have a lovely sort of stick thing from Merit which I can just sort of whizz on and blend quickly, then blush, mascara, earrings. I tend to look very red on teams calls and about ten years older without it!
