‘Hollywood Glamour’ shoe dilemma!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 25/01/2026 10:16

I have a friend’s birthday party coming up and am wearing this dress but am clueless as to what shoes to wear!

It hits just above ankle height, I cannot wear real heels (my knees cannot cope with the shift in balance and I have a tendency to fall over🤦🏼‍♀️) and would like closed toes. I am only 5ft though so would probably look like a child in ballet flats!

Normal foot wear is Docs or trainers.

I know there are loads of options out there but I feel a little overwhelmed by the decision (the dress choice took long enough!) so any help would be very gratefully received.

Some kind of pointed flat or kitten heel?

Purplecatshopaholic · 25/01/2026 19:28

Great dress. Plainer shoes I think, not to compete. I’d go kitten heel, pointed toe, sling backs. Classy and elegant. In whatever colour (tonal, or major clash) you fancy.
These pink ones are awesome - too high, pricy, maybe, but just as an example?

Or these R&B ones - come in silver and also pink

Or something like these if they need to be flat

I bought these courts with a low heel (the closed toe ones) they are very comfy and I never wear heels. Easy to get free returns on Amazon !

What about a short cowboy style boot? Could get silver ones? Might not work but as it’s cold out it could work?

ChequerToRed · 26/01/2026 11:05

There is another option, which is the Wrong Shoe Theory of fashion styling. For instance, with this dress a pointed toe ballet flat in leopard print would be a bold choice that’d work well. Very fashionable, wouldn’t look child-like because of the pattern/toe shape, and does away with the heel. There’s plenty around atm, too, so they’d be easy to find.

Foofedifiknow · 26/01/2026 11:10

Something like the Esska velvet block heel might work and give you a height boost. Comfy too

Mcdhotchoc · 26/01/2026 12:10

I had similar. I looked at dance shoes instead. Had a better selection and I was only going to wear them once.

thesugarbumfairy · 26/01/2026 14:24

I'd go for some low silver t-bars with blockier heels rather than stiletto or kitten. I have these in gold and they are quite comfy. https://www.vinted.co.uk/items/7410798718-lulu-hun-silver-party-heels

Barnabyted · 26/01/2026 18:44

Have a look at the sargasso and grey website for silver shoes. I find their heeled shoes really comfortable and I can’t usually wear heels. Look for a pair with a slight platform front and a block heel so that they don’t feel high.

Badslipperluck · 26/01/2026 18:55

You'll probably hate this but this is what sprang to mind in a retro just nipping out between scenes kind of way. Alternatively pointed flats with a bar across (as per PPS) are your best bet imo.

@EnterQueene love the red ones! Thanks.
@ChequerToRed I can see this becoming a theory I embrace 😁
Some lovely ideas, thanks everyone

This brand are crazy comfy and I dont thonk these wpuld be insane with jeans or in the office

I have these sequinned Flabelus in black. They’re super comfy and look amazing. I did contemplate wearing them to the office today but had a lot of client facing meetings and thought it might be pushing my luck.

I also have a Flabelus pair in red velvet that I wore at Christmas and got lots of compliments from people who never normally even mention shoes.

HippyChickMama · 26/01/2026 20:40

I know it won’t be most people’s choice, but I would wear sequinned low top Converse with that dress in either silver or a bright colour, probably red. Not glamorous maybe, but comfortable

Edited

yikes the price of the jimmy choos!

HoarFrosted · 26/01/2026 21:24

Reduced to £36 and would be good with your dress, if the heel strap gives you enough security.
