How does an overweight woman wear brogues?

How, HOW I ask you....

do I wear brogues as an overweight woman? And still look feminine? I carry all my weight on my thighs and hips if that makes any difference.

Please don't say "wear jumper dresses" - they cling in all the wrong bloody places and make me look like a sack of spuds, or they don't and make me look like an empty shapeless sack awaiting said spuds.

I've googled how to style these, and am just bamboozled with pictures of very pretty skinny 20 year olds in them, prancing about in skinny ankle tapered trousers. 🙃to be fair I used to look like them at that age too....

I have a cupboard full of lovely hamble oaks in all different colours... tan, black, cream/pink, dark green, navy patent....

Stats:
5 feet 10
size UK 16 (in M&S anyway)
weigh 190 lbs (13 stone 8lbs apparently)
carry my weight on my thighs and my hips
38 years old

I think chunky ones look better than quite dainty Hamble oaks. I have big feet and thick ankles and they just don't look balanced. Plus, Hamble Oaks aren't actually that comfortable with their thin soles and they wear out after about only 20km

Always think a wrap around dress disguises a lot

Brogues aren’t feminine no matter what the size of the wearer

Wear with boots or very low heeled court shoes. (Very hard to find and had mine for years)

I’ve got black patent/suede brogues and I wear mine with wide leg trousers too. Grey tweed ones and go for a dark academic/fancy librarian vibe.

Loafer sole. Brogue top
I think the sole being chunkier balances a fuller figure better

@cheeseonsofa , What is a loafer sole? Loafers can have several different types of sole. Brogues are "strong outdoor shoes with ornamental perforated patterns in the leather". The example does explain it.

@FairKoala , wrap dresses make most women look lumpy.

I would also say that with lots of the outfits she wears, brogues are often interchangeable with her other footwear. In some of these, for instance, she's wearing boots or loafers - but it could easily be brogues & still work. She's great with colours too - which should give you some ideas for your many shades of brogues ...?!!!

Hi OP. Have a look at https://www.instagram.com/melissamurrellpersonalstyling?igsh=MXJ0N29vNmxmbnJsaA== she makes styling videos with ladies of all shapes and sizes.
She has quite recently done one that specifically mentions exactly what shape, style and length of trousers to wear with brogues / loafers and the client was size 16/18 I think. I find her advice really useful and easy to apply
