Registry office wedding dress

Ohlaydownandlaugh · 08/01/2026 09:04

I'm looking for a wedding dress for an intimate registry office wedding. I want it to feel special and classy but not classic bridal. I'm mid 40s, tall, size 12 and pear shaped.

Any recommendations for dresses or brands or London based shops?

Can you give a rough budget?

And do you want white / ivory / cream, or a colour?

Defiantly41 · 08/01/2026 11:34

These are all white/ivory/cream, but if you click on the bridesmaid/guest tabs at the top, there are other styles/colours

if you can give an idea of length, sleeve, shape & colour preferences and a rough budget, lots of S&B devotees are great vicarious shoppers!

Have a look at Ali Street dresses. Wedding dresses but not full on bridal IYKWIM?

Needle and thread London are fabulous.

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 08/01/2026 13:26

Needle and Thread and Rixo.

I'm also on the search for my registry office wedding dress.
It seems to be a search for the Holy Grail to find a dress that has sleeves, a full back and decent neckline aka not plunging to the ribs.

I see something I love and then I scroll some more to discover it's backless 🙄

Needle and Thread make some gorgeous dresses for special occasions.

NailsForChristmas · 08/01/2026 13:34

I really struggled. I spent so much trying dresses online my credit card got stopped.
Ended up in a traditional wedding dress, which I wasn't expecting.
We eloped as well, so not even any guests!

Vivien of Holloway for a vintage look?

Thank you; I appreciate you taking the time to suggest something for me.

It's very pretty but I'm looking for something a little bit fancier.

Ever Pretty has some lovely dresses, I've looked on their site a few times in my search. Sadly, they don't have the best Trustpilot reviews; their returns policy leaves a lot to be desired, which is a shame as I'd likely order several dresses/sizes.

Jiski · 08/01/2026 16:16

Ever pretty are good and very well priced. https://www.ever-pretty.co.uk/?utmsource=google&utmmedium=cpc&utmcampaign=2076210392&utmterm=ever%20pretty&gadsource=1&gadcampaignid=2076210392&gbraid=0AAAAAC1MV3fCSYHEUliDp5-LrTzLDEhpe

I bought 2 guest dresses recently and they look just like the pics.People share their photos of the dresses so you can see them on different shapes

Just look on asos

This might be too plain for what you are looking for, but this was my wedding dress. You might find something else by Alie Street :)

I had a registry office wedding and bought mine from The Pretty Dress Company.

Ohlaydownandlaugh · 08/01/2026 19:23

Thanks everyone. I'll look through the suggestions - much appreciated.

I'm after a cream or white or ivory dress, midi length, not strappy shoulders. Budget of up to £1000.

I had a small registry office wedding and wore a ghost dress (from an outlet store). It was pale pink, short sleeved satin and ankle length, but I also considered a sleeveless silver one as well. They have nice dresses for special occasions imo.

PrincessofWells · 08/01/2026 21:07

The Ballroom on The Plain in Oxford is good.

minipie · 08/01/2026 21:10

The Reformation bridal collection is lovely, especially if you are tall.

(removed my comment re needle & thread as I got confused with another brand)

PermanentTemporary · 08/01/2026 21:17

I’m going to try this one on.

I went to Harrods and Peter Jones to try on loads of different styles to see what suited me and what brands worked well for my figure. I didn't go for white/cream because the colour doesn't look good on me and there wasn't enough choice.

I actually ended up buying a red dress in a shop in covent garden but the trying on in department stores was really good research. It was my favourite dress for fancy occasions so I ended up wearing it quite a lot.
