What would you do with these (diamond) rings?

The first pic (single stone) is my engagment ring, which I haven't worn for about 12 years (still happily married!) and it seems silly to have it sitting around unworn. I think it's about 1 c., platinum. As I don't really wear a lot of jewellery I feel self-conscious wearing it now (it feels too ostentatious/ blingy) and it's not really my taste anymore (I've had it nearly 25 years)

The second is my grandmother's engagement ring, which I actually much prefer on my finger. However, while the diamonds are 'good' (according to my mum) the setting is/was white gold plate, which has long since worn off so it's now black/ tarnished. Again, it feels silly having it just sitting around unworn.

I was wondering about having the whole lot reset as an eternity ring version of this, or similar, using the diamonds and the platinum from my engagement ring? Although the stones are a mix of square and round... Or maybe replating my grandmother's ring and wearing that and then doing something different with my engagement ring (but I'm not sure what - I don't think I'd ever wear a diamond solitaire necklace for e.g.). I guess I could keep the stone from my engagement ring for my DD in the future (she's still a child)?

Any ideas? What would you do??

Your engagement ring is not blingy at all, it’s only 1ct. I love the setting it’s the Tiffany Lucida which was all the rage at the time, so many people had them made. I would just have it reset as a simple solitaire personally

Yes, it is exactly like the Lucida ring. I got it in 2002 :) I don’t think it’s blingy at all.

I was given a diamond ring belonging to my gran aswell as her wedding ring and as I already have diamond rings I do wear, sI spoke to a local jeweller and she remodelled my grans rings into a pendant that I can wear.

I love it and always get amazing comments about it when i wear it,

You clearly aren't that motivated by jewellery or you would experiment with just wearing what you already have.
For that reason, I would just leave them be. They're both as you and GM chose them, at that special point in each of your lives.
Fashions change and so do lifestyles - maybe at some point in the future you or someone else in your family will pick up that big 2000s diamond and think how lovely it is.
PS I suspect if someone wore grandma's ring it would polish itself. Silver tarnishes - but not if you wear it constantly, and this metal, whatever it is, might be the same.

I think having a chat with an independent jewellers is a good start. They will have lots of ideas about what will and won’t work.

Not sure where you are but this guy is in West Sussex, he designed and made some beautiful earrings for me from some pearls that were gifted to me by MIL.

I had a couple of stones from rings made into a pendant. I wear if more frequently than I ever did the rings.

Thanks all. I'm having them made into two rings, by the jewellers I linked above - one for each hand! I'm ridiculously excited and if I remember I'll post pics here when I collect them in a few weeks.

@FlappicusSmith i see you’ve resolved your conundrum but I was going to tell you about my solution for a similar dilemma- my late DMs 21st birthday necklace made of big amethysts. I waited for a few years and this Christmas had it reworked into jewellery for me and DSDs and cuff links for DH. It felt very meaningful and lovely to have repurposed it for my family. So I’m so pleased you’ve decided to reuse yours 🙂
