Coloured Bra advice

auntyspan · 12/06/2008 09:13

I am off to a party on saturday - have purchased a new dress here

It fits really well but you can, every now and again, see flashes of bra. As it's such a bright colour dress, should I go for:

  1. white bra
  2. black bra
  3. try and get a bra that's a similar colour
  4. flesh coloured bra

whatcha think style guru's???

i think you should take dress to bra shop and keep trying them on till there are no flashes of bra.

I'm no style guru but def wouldn't choose flesh coloured - they are very unsexy IMO, you don't want anyone actually seeing it!

I'd go for black I think.

AllBuggiedOut · 12/06/2008 09:24

If it is just the straps, go for those plasticy-see through ones. But if it's the cups, I think white or black would look awful. You should try what fishie says, or could you add a small tuck at the the shoulder seams so the neckline sits a bit higher?

fishie · 12/06/2008 09:27

or a nice contrasting vest / camisole. it might be a bit nippy at weekend you may appreciate it.

castille · 12/06/2008 09:28

Hmm yes I was thinking straps, but if it's the actual cups I'd think about having the dress altered

Most important thing is to wear a bra that fits perfectly to give you a great shape under it

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 12/06/2008 09:28

snigger - sorry couldn't resist.

nappyaddict · 12/06/2008 09:30

no not those plastic straps they are terrible. could you get a strapless one? otherwise i would get a bra with a contrasting colour say bright pink or something.

MrsBadger · 12/06/2008 09:32

if it's the straps, either pin the dress to them or get some strap traps

if it's at the cleavage, you can steal Califrau's trick and sew a hair grip to the lowest point of the neckline, then slide the grip over the centre of the bra to keep everythign togehter when you bend forward

but Fishie is right - see if you can find a bra that doesn't show. And I'd go for black.

If you have a correctly fitting bra and correctly fitting dress the bra shouldnt show from what I can see of the dress. Otherwise sew bra into dress. Flashes of bra are NOT good, whatever colour

Enid · 12/06/2008 09:36

I did that (hair grip) with my wedding dress! and you can buy 'see through' hair grips that work a treat

nailpolish · 12/06/2008 09:37

dont go for these plastic see through ones. they are SO TACKY

no to white
no to black
no to flesh coloured (the most unsexy look EVER imo)
no to contrast feature colour lke red or blue

i MIGHT think about getting a green bra but tbh if i were you id get the strap traps (mrsB link) or id stich the bra into the dress. a couple of tacking stiches here and there does the trick. ive done it myself. put the bra and dress on and do it yourself or get dh to do it

zippitippitoes · 12/06/2008 09:39

it looks like you should be able to not show with that it isnt particularly low and has wide straps

is it just too big?

and flesh and see through are both horrid

black if it has to flash but i dont see why it would

Enid · 12/06/2008 09:40
nailpolish · 12/06/2008 09:42

yes i think so too enid

NO to black! i dont wear black or white bras they are so boring

nailpolish · 12/06/2008 09:43

ill bet you need a new bra. what size are you? maybe the size smaller dress would fit brilliant if you had a really well fitting bra

auntyspan · 12/06/2008 09:46

ooo all great replies.... although not sure about the red option.....

The dress is a little too big around the boobs bit fits really well around the hips. There's not a huge amount of bra showing, just the odd flash when I put my arms up. Possibly a bit around the cleavage - LOVING the hairgrip idea and will def do that.

Might get a girlfriend to sew me in

goodness, i never ever worry about bra colours. i dont htink i own a white bra, that isnt a sports bra,
a properly fitting bra, and dress means it wont show. so doesnt matter what colour it is.

nailpolish · 12/06/2008 09:48

ihave a green bra htat is alomost identical to that colour (i think)

i got it in denbenhams - its a freya i think

auntyspan · 12/06/2008 09:48

well i've lost quite a bit of weight so possibly bra too big now...

I've got fairly sizeable baps though (36DD) - i can feel a bra session coming on at lunchtime...

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 12/06/2008 09:49

if you have lost weight and not bought new bras then they will be too big

mazzystar · 12/06/2008 09:52

nice frock
great excuse to treat self to fab new bra - I would go for coloured - yeah do all the stitching in and hairgrip stuff, but its quite fun know your undies rock as much as the main event
and is it too late to get dress taken in just a touch?
