Are these piercings too close?

Diamondsbutnoknickers · 21/12/2025 21:31

The yellow ones are old piercings. The silver ones were done last week. Both a small/very small studs.

I dont like hoops/huggies. I'll wear studs most of the time but dont want to be restricted by size/design. I've added images.

Ideally I'd like a third eventually but if I cant I'll stick with 2.

I'm wondering if I should take the silver ones out and ask them to redo them? Or do they look like they'll be OK?

The silver studs are only a little bigger than the posts.

I know they are wonky but I think the first ones were as well.

Hmm from the second pictures no, I don’t think so. I think they’re fine.

StCuntyMcCunterson · 21/12/2025 22:20

Yeah they’re not as aesthetically pleasing as they could be. They also don’t appear even. I have an odd second piercing and look ridiculous but the two studs… yours are fine compared to that but it can’t hurt to go back. Did they show you a mark in your ear before piercing?

StCuntyMcCunterson · 21/12/2025 22:22

But is the earring wonky in the second pic? If so, I think it will look fine once pushed in.

Hohofortherobbers · 21/12/2025 22:28

They don't look too close, they look fine, and space for a 3rd if you decide to get it done

Diamondsbutnoknickers · 21/12/2025 22:35

By "even" do you mean space wise, angle wise or something else?

Yes, she drew dots but tbh I didnt have a clue and had to rely on her expertise.

I'm not happy with them but cant quite put my finger on why.

I am also not convinced there is enough room to have anything other than tiny studs or thin hoops/huggies.

But willing to listen to those who say they arent too close.

I also chose the earrings poorly but I cant blame them for that! 🤣

By even, I mean they don’t match. One has been done in one place and the other ear in another. They aren’t aligned. I hope that makes more sense. They could be the ears of two people.

StCuntyMcCunterson · 21/12/2025 22:38

Ok, the second picture looks loads better. I don’t know why. They are ok to leave in the second picture.

Yeah, I see that. One side is definately "flatter" than the other. I think I need to go back don't I?

If I get more in the future, it will possibly cause issues. She kept having to wipe and redo the "flatter" side so was obviously having trouble with it.

The right is definately flatter. I knew that anyway.

My first two are too close (had them done in clairs over 20 years ago!) but these are my ears now. I know I have hoops, but studs work fine too.

Mine look about that distance too. Could you put studs the same size as your third stud in them or would that be too big?

My first ones were done in a dodgy jewellers. The person doing them got my mum to point to where she thought I should have my first ear and just did it. Neither asked me even though I was 14/15! For the second, he waved the gun about on the other ear with my mum saying higher/lower/forward/back. I remember having to ask for a mirror to look at them afterwards because he did it and then him and my mum went straight to the till to pay. It's almost like I didnt need to be there!

They possibly turned out better than my seconds and the jewellers is still there now. They still use a gun but hopefully they clean it these days.

They are close, but they fit. I have had smaller studs in before, these ones are quite big.

It looks to me like you have attached and one slightly unattached earlobe which might be why they're wonky. Or it could be the angle of your photo. Your earlobes look slightly different to me.

Diamondsbutnoknickers · 22/12/2025 13:26

I went back to the shop. The man there said they were clearly wonky and pointed out the issue before I'd even explained it. He said the distance was a matter of individual preference but they probably were better suited for hoops.

They are flat back and I couldnt take them out myself and the man wasnt a piercer so didnt want to do it which I understand.

He agreed that I could have them re-done or my money back. I'm going back tomorrow for the piercer to take them out.

I'm really impressed with the customer service and the way he handled it so I'll go back in a few weeks to get them re-pierced.

They have been in 4 days so he said that I should be able to get them done again in 2 weeks. I'll leave it a bit longer just in case.

I'm going to get the biggest studs they have this time! My yellow studs are small and the silver studs were only just bigger than the posts.

@Diamondsbutnoknickers If he's not a piercer, how would he know..? If you're not happy with them, fine, but they look okay to me. It may just look different to how you've seen other people look because of your specific ear anatomy. Maybe consider a second opinion at a different piercer's?

I also thought my second piercing was wonky immediately after getting it done, but after a week or so either I got used to it or the healing process helped. I see it as even now.

Frenchiex · 22/12/2025 13:37

I do ear piercing and in my opinion the firsts are too high which has meant the seconds need to be closer to avoid going into the cartilage. It’s really difficult to do seconds if the firsts aren’t well placed and where you’d put them yourself but I would have explained this to you before piercing

Because he works with them and sees hundreds a day. 😊 I went in and said I thought they were wonky. He looked at them and said he could see that one side were parallel to each other and the other side were at an angle. So he saw the issue before I explained what it was.

He didnt explain why that had happened or what the piercer was considering when they did it. He just said he could see it before I told him.

It's quite possible it's because the firsts aren't right. I only wear studs really so the firsts dont seem "wrong" to me. Quite willing to be told their placement is off though. As I said above, the guy who did them was a joke so it wouldn't surprise me. 🤣

I appreciate it will be harder with dodgy firsts.

She had a lot of trouble finding the placement for the one side and had to draw the dot on and wipe it off several times.

If I have them a bit further apart, does it mean I won't be able to have a third? That's fine, I just want to know.

They aren’t at the same height. I think that might be what is bothering you. I’d take them out and get them redone when the holes have closed. Make sure they are at the same height.

Won't that leave a hole in your ear?

I think the second pics you posted were much better and I less you looked super hard you couldn't tell.
