Are these piercings too close?

The yellow ones are old piercings. The silver ones were done last week. Both a small/very small studs.

I dont like hoops/huggies. I'll wear studs most of the time but dont want to be restricted by size/design. I've added images.

Ideally I'd like a third eventually but if I cant I'll stick with 2.

I'm wondering if I should take the silver ones out and ask them to redo them? Or do they look like they'll be OK?

Won't that leave a hole in your ear?

I think the second pics you posted were much better and I less you looked super hard you couldn't tell.

Because they've only been in a few days the holes should close up and heal fast with no lasting damage.
The reason you leave new piercings in so long is because they'll close up if you take the earrings out before the body has healed around them.

Ah right, that makes sense .

It's quite possible it's because the firsts aren't right. I only wear studs really so the firsts dont seem "wrong" to me. Quite willing to be told their placement is off though. As I said above, the guy who did them was a joke so it wouldn't surprise me. 🤣

I appreciate it will be harder with dodgy firsts.

She had a lot of trouble finding the placement for the one side and had to draw the dot on and wipe it off several times.

If I have them a bit further apart, does it mean I won't be able to have a third? That's fine, I just want to know.

if it makes you feel better loads of peoples first ones are off and you’re right it does just make it look more obvious when you have the second ones.
Depends where your cartilage goes to as to if you could have them higher. It may be that you have a bit more space and intentionally have them in the cartilage (so kind of like where thirds would go with more space) but I’d recommend you have done with a specialist and a needle. Have you messaged the person who did them? They should be able to help and advise you of your options

I've still got holes in my ears from 50 years ago which have not been used ! 😬

You know your ears look fine! Don't get carried away with this trend of " curated" ears - many of them look awful. You can get Huggies I think to use that don't involve piercing.

QueenMummyTheFirst · 22/12/2025 18:05

I think the first ones are a bit different to each other, but the second ones look pretty even to me. Your earlobes are slightly different shapes, so I don't think you'd ever get perfectly symmetrical piercings. I would leave them if I were you, I think they look really good.

I'm saying this as someone who has one in one ear and two in another as my seconds got infected and only one went back in, and I'm too much of a wimp and scared of the pain to try again 😅

Branleuse · 23/12/2025 10:19

I think that they are slightly too close on one side, but I would do like app has done and make a feature of it with two rings or two plain studs the same.
I don't think you can just get it repierced.

I think there are a lot of not very good piercers out there sadly.

That's a daft comment. Do you think I'm posting on here to fish for comments like "you have the most beautiful ears I've ever seen" and "I wish my piercings looked as perfect as yours"? 🤣🤣🤣

Anyway, the piercer agreed they were wonky. When I showed her the types of earrings I like to wear she said they would have been "snug". She's taken them out and thinks I should be able to get them redone early Jan but I'll leave it longer than that.

She said she put them there because I said I wanted thirds so if she moves them further apart, I might not be able to get 3. Id rather have 2 with earrings I like than 3 and have to wear hoops/huggies which I don't like.

When I go back I'll make sure I'm wearing large studs in my first piercings and choose large studs to get pierced with. I chose the smallest earring possible to get pierced with and I think that was where I went wrong!

Thanks for everyone's comments.

It's not a new trend to get carried away with, people have been wearing multiple piercing for the last 30/ 40 years, it's just that it's been given a name and there's more lovely earrings for sale than there used to be.

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 23/12/2025 12:16

I don't think so, no. I think a good rule is to ensure a gap of however wide your smallest finger pad is, ie your pinky finger pad, between each hole. I say this because I like big gems and you don't want big gems making contact, especially if it's a large stud kind of day and you want to wear a row of big gems.

I have tiny ear lobes and all of the holes are retired now. I can probably still poke a couple open, but I can't be bothered with earrings these days.

You all have pretty ears, by the way. As odd a compliment that might be 😂

Daughn · 23/12/2025 14:06

I've been thinking about getting second ones done. I came across this website with useful info about placement.

Placement & Spacing: How to Line Up Your Second Hole
Great earring placement makes your stack look intentional, not crowded. Use these pro pointers:

  • Match the angle of your first piercing so earrings hang parallel.
  • Space 5–8 mm between first and second holes for most lobes; petite lobes may need 4–6 mm, fuller lobes look balanced at 6–8 mm.
  • If you wear chunky hoops or huggies daily, leave a little extra clearance so pieces don’t collide.
  • Considering a double upper lobe or high lobe piercing? Ask your piercer to follow your natural ear contour for a classy, elongating line.

Great news. Will you have to pay again?

No. She offered me a refund or a voucher. I took the voucher because they are a respected piercer and they dealt with the issue really well so I dont have any issues getting them to redo it in a couple of months.

They also offered me a free pair of earrings to apologise. 🤣🤣🤣

My seconds have closed but the mark is still healing. A few days ago I put proper studs in the firsts. Now I can see the piercings were definately too close and I wouldn't have been able to wear 2 sets of studs. These studs are 5mm and would have touched anything in the second hole. I'm very glad I took them out.

These studs are internal screws and were really difficult to get in and doing so has irritated both sets of piercings and now my ears are sore again. 😐 I'll be keeping these ones in until my ears have settled again.

I was planning on waiting until end of Jan to get the seconds done but will have to see. Either way, I"ll make sure I've got proper studs in when I go back so the placement will be better.

I'm also going to buy one of those internal screw tools so hopefully avoid so much fuss and irritation next change!
