Foundation won’t stay on my nose

PonkyPonky · 18/12/2025 18:24

I’m not sure what happened but when I got to mid thirties, foundation just stopped sticking to my nose. So I just don’t wear it now because it looks horrendous when it stays on the rest of my face but my pink nose is just sticking out in the middle of my face like Rudolph.
I’ve googled it, I’ve tried the tricks on YouTube and nothing works. I use primer, setting spray. I’ve tried different brands of foundation.
Anyone else had this problem and knows how to fix it? I have a party this weekend and I’d really like to wear liquid foundation.

What foundation are you using? Is it oil-based or water-based?

I’ve got a range to choose from but none of them say anywhere on them if they are oil or water based. Which should I be looking for?

They need to match. I'm guessing your nose is oily, so water based. Probably says matte on the primer and foundation.

I'd not prime or use spray but use a lasting foundation, and a powder afterwards.
I use Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation. I gave up on £££ brands years ago but I liked Lancome Teint Idole. (shop around, prices vary)

I'm not saying it will work, but my make up stays put. They didn't have primers and setting spray when I was young.

HangryBrickShark · 18/12/2025 19:14

I also use Rimmel Lasting Finish and use loose matt mineral powder which is oil free afterwards. Primark sell the powder and I apply with a big make up brush after dipping it onto the plastic insert with the holes and blowing the surplus off the brush.

UpMyself · 18/12/2025 19:20

I didn't like the Primark foundation. It doesn't seem to stay put on me.
Loose powder is what you need (as pp said).
Carry a concealer with you for touch-ups (I like No 7 - the stick type not a wand)

PoopaScoopa1 · 18/12/2025 19:26

Estee lauder double wear. Once you've used it and learnt how to use it properly you will never need another foundation ever again. Before I knew better I used to sleep in the stuff and wake up with my make up still perfect.
You can do a whole day in a waterpark with it on and it won't budge at all. Greatest thing ever invented!

If you've tried it and didn't like it try again and again.

UpMyself · 18/12/2025 19:30

Super Stay 30H Full Coverage Face Concealer | Maybelline UK doesn't budge.
I've not tried Double Wear but the concealer stays put.

NortyElf · 18/12/2025 19:32

Lumene CC cream has excellent staying power

UpMyself · 18/12/2025 19:33

The stay-put foundations tend to need a swift application. They dry quickly.

Fluffywabbits · 18/12/2025 19:42

I suffer with the same issue and recently read on a thread here that it can be caused by not letting one product fully set before layering the next one. IE you need to leave more time between applying your moisturiser and primer than you do currently and the same between your primer and foundation. I've definitely seen a difference since following that advice though it's not fully solved the problem.

BigFenianEnergy · 18/12/2025 19:44

I put a powder over the foundation to make it stick. I don’t use primer as it doesn’t work for me. I have an incredibly red nose so understand. I’ve tried all foundations of all costs and really rate the w7 foundation with the red top. It’s less than £6. I then use their set it off powder applied with a massive brush. It’s just a bonus it’s so affordable but it sticks to my old red skin like glue.

I am 33 and haven't worn actual foundation in a few years. I find wearing a tinted moisturiser alongside concealer is far less aging and gives you a healthy glow. Try the Charlotte Tilbury unisex healthy glow, I have red undertones and it is great for eliminating and neutralising those. I pair this with Estee Lauder concealer and glossier future dew skin.

Alicorn1707 · 18/12/2025 20:11

@PonkyPonky

If you ignore the hard sell on her products, Charlotte Tilbury has some tips for stopping foundation separation.

UpMyself · 18/12/2025 20:15

She lost me at 'darlings'.

PonkyPonky · 18/12/2025 20:17

Wow loads of great tips and recommendations here. I already use a matte mineral powder. Usually just that on its own for every day wear but sometimes I just want to be able to put a liquid foundation under it for a night out. I do have generally red/rosy skin so makeup has never been a breeze for me. I’m not particularly oily or dry as far as I can tell. Just the big red nose is really annoying when the foundation sits nicely everywhere else. I will try some of your recommendations and report back if anything works. Thanks everyone

I have this problem too, but it’s because my nose drips a lot and I end up dabbing at it or full on blowing. I take anti histamines and so on but it is still constant if I go outside much. So I’ll be interested in any solutions!

Estee Lauder double wear with laura mercier translucent powder (pressed on with the puff) on top DOES NOT budge!! Expensive but worth it and both last ages (I've had my powder 2 years and use every day)

Outandabout43 · 18/12/2025 20:54

Good skin care routine. Cleanse, tone, moisturise morning and night. Vit c in the morning and retinol at night. This will keep skin in good condition for when you apply makeup

It’s interesting because if I press with a puff, the foundation just comes off showing patches of red, freckly skin. I’d also say 9/10 people recommend double wear but it’s just ok for me, moves over the day and is no better than any of the supermarket basics.

How do you learn to use it?? I bought a bottle recently and I’m not getting on very well with it. It just looks weird on my skin and I don’t think the colour is wrong. What am I missing?

UpMyself · 18/12/2025 21:32

@BigFenianEnergy , I've not tried Double Wear I've only recommended things I've used. I don't get on with a powder puff either.

A brand I have used and like but not mentioned is Revlon Colorstay.

@PoopaScoopa1 , if it's like Teint Idole, you don't need to use much and you need to apply it quickly.

newyorkbreakfast · 18/12/2025 21:34

I use the Elf green grippy primer and the best foundation I’ve tried has been Estée Lauder Double Wear. I have the red rudolf nose thing too and this combo has worked. Is it maybe also that you need a ‘full coverage’ foundation? The MAC one I’m currently using gives me a blotchy nose. It’s not full coverage.

lacquershimmer · 18/12/2025 22:12

Buy the matching concealer, from the same brand as your foundation, and use that on your nose. Then use a setting spray as well.

lindyloo57 · 19/12/2025 13:40

I have this problem when I use a liquid foundation, so I just use laura geller balance and brighten on my nose, it seems to last all day, if not it's easy to reapply without build up.
