Sick of reading about “ anti ageing ”

It’s bad enough with serums and creams but read an article about anti ageing jeans!! Honestly do you really think I’m going look believe I look ten years younger due to a particular pair of jeans?! Unless I wear them on my head!

Whats so wrong with ageing? You can be old and look good. I know the beauty and fashion industries value youth but I wish they wouldn’t get away with making ridiculous claims

Yours
A grumpy older woman

I agree. A while ago I saw this advert and it really made me annoyed. Like being over 40 is something that has been be whispered it’s so shameful. I wrote to them to complain but got the usual PR jargon back.

I'm 50, going grey and feel entitled to completely embrace it.

I can't imagine what anti aging jeans look like!

Thank you! I'm 44. I look 44. I like being 44. I don't want to look 25.

I take care of my skin and hair and so on but I look my age and I am very happy with that.

ThePolarEspresso · 28/11/2025 14:26

We age, we die, people have different ideas about the point of life.

SeaAndStars · 28/11/2025 14:27

For me, one of the most freeing, relaxing and happy things about aging has been caring less what I look like. As long as I'm healthy and content then who cares if my jeans are making me look 68 rather than 61. I'm not trying to impress anyone anyway.

Fighting aging is setting oneself up to fail.

NewCushions · 28/11/2025 14:27

I mean I LOVE anti aging products and am very happy with my (currently) lovely clear skin but what the hell are "anti aging| jeans? That's just weird.

This. With bloody big bells on.

Anti aging jeans indeed - they must think we're daft.

Dungarees that make you look like an overgrown toddler?

Gowlett · 28/11/2025 14:34

I just think of myself as “not young” no anti-aging here!
So, I never buy products with “wrinkle cream” or whatever…
The ones with all of the science claims are just silly $$$.

I’ve simply moved on from the pink, sparkly stuff of youth.
Same when it comes to clothes, style. No Sketchers yet.
But, I’m currently off-loading pieces that no longer suit me.

Mistyglade · 28/11/2025 14:34

It’s the young doing it that upsets me. There was a 28 year old on telly the other day who’d had a facelift. Honestly I find it heartbreaking. So much lovely collagen being sliced up. It’s crept up on me so I’m fine with it, it’s a privilege to get older when I think of the friends i lost in their 20s.

It's just another form of gambling IMHO. They are either not good at maths or not very well, I gather it may be to do with narcissistic traits.

Sorry I don’t follow. Gambling and maths?!

If you understand maths you understand odds, so if you are poor at maths/odds you think you can win at gambling so carry on. If you understand maths and have say NPD for example, you will think you are so special you can win.

You can't beat the house or age.

Floisme · 28/11/2025 15:02

I need to see these anti aging jeans

MayaPinion · 28/11/2025 15:10

When you are older you can look older or you can look weird. You can’t look young because you’ve done that - you’ve finished with that stage of your life. I’m 57 - I want to look like a happy healthy 57 year old, and I think I do most of the time. No amount of Botox, fillers, or surgery is going to make me look 30 again.

Even celebrities, with all their money and access to the best doctors and surgeons, look weird when they start tweaking themselves. Beautiful women, like Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock, and Courtney Cox, all look stretched and pulled and frozen. Even Jennifer Aniston is starting to look odd. If they can’t pull it off we really can’t either.

Twistedfirestarters · 28/11/2025 15:16

I completely agree op. The only anti aging I'm interested in is keeping as physically healthy as I can.

Not sure I follow that people who have face lifts are narcissistic though. If you want to make a generalisation I'd say it's the opposite; you're looking in the mirror and not liking what you see. That's not narcissism is it?

I can't be bothered to find what I read years ago. I think it was something like 90% that have those type of procedures have narcissistic traits.

They apparently create a shell around themselves as children for some reason and give themselves a mask character, no surprises that they want a mask face also.

As for gazing at your reflection in the mirror more than a few moments a day, that's exactly what he did, looked at his reflection on the river.

I came across a lad as a teen who would get up and look at himself in the mirror in our company and it put me off looking at myself much, as he seemed so odd and I didn't want to end up like him.

pinkpony88 · 28/11/2025 16:28

Only one alternative to getting older and it’s much less appealing than a few wrinkles ☠️

tobee · 28/11/2025 18:46

Been thinking this a lot lately. Constantly seeing articles about reversing aging etc. I mean to what end? When does it stop? Does it never stop? Are we supposed to look 22 at age 97? Is that desirable then?

Sidebeforeself · 28/11/2025 19:33

@tobee Exactly. So at the same time as dieting , exercising, drinking water endlessly etc in order to live longer, we also need to avoid looking older!

OP posts:
henlake7 · 28/11/2025 19:49

I don't think these products are actually marketed towards the older woman though. It's younger women who tend to worry about finding wrinkles or cellulite and greedy companies play on their insecurities and try and make them buy all sorts of tat!
The majority of older women accept the fact they have signs of ageing coz it's a hell of alot better then the alternative!

gandeysflipflop · 28/11/2025 19:50

Its awful that we, women especially are not allowed to age anymore. We are extremely lucky to age and not be taken by some awful illness such as cancer before we have the opportunity to age It really is a privilege to get older. Tbh I think people who have face lifts, botox, fillers etc look really odd and ridiculous compared to someone who has had nothing done.
I do think people generally look younger than they did a generation or so ago anyway due to different styles of dress, modern hair styles etc. look at your average 35 year old woman in the 1970s they seemed to look much older than a 35 year old in 2025.

unsync · 28/11/2025 20:30

The only thing that stops you ageing is death. I just want to be healthy, mobile and independent as I age. It is a work in progress.
